We are not dynamic enough around the centre square it showed in the Geelong game and showed again tonight.
Liam Ryan bought his own post code no pies player wanted to run with him whether on the wing when there or up forward.
Our center structures are poor vs WC type set up. hello gaff, sheed, ryan and jetta hanging out defensive side all alone ALL game.
Our mids arent working as hard as the WC counter parts, Sheed how many times does he have to run forward and kick goals before a player decides to push back with him?
We can look very pedestrian with our midfield group which is no where near the number 1 midfield people claim it to be. For starters the WC midfield is better and I'd argue a couple more are the equal or above as well (think we have the 4th best roughly).
So many times you watch them get 10-15m on our players when leading or making space. Conversely watching down the field at our players on the lead, WC had no issues matching step for step right on their hammer. WC a quick team across the ground all lines has pacey types.
.
Treloar looks like a run of the mill AFL midfield player (pace wise) after the hammy, lost a little bit of pace and now struggles to break away from contests cleanly. Line breaking is not what it was.
Stephenson looks to be having the obligatory second year blues, very quiet in all game this year and maybe its time to give him a run in the magoos.
So many missed handballs tonight killing off attacking run.
I have to say the non drafting of KPF is going to haunt us for a while. We are using a former VFL workhorse backman who is really a 3rd tall type as a 2nd KPF and the other forward is a project player who is very prone to going missing vs quality set ups. Mihocheck would be a great 3rd tall if he had 2 genuine KPF to work off.
We also dont have a real answer for pacy small forwards Maynard just lacks a yard for the real quicks.
Not sure how we can address the pace issues in the midfield, the defensive work rate issues obviously comes back on to our players.
