Ok the idea for this came from ah_19's post about trading. I will give the list of all the players we currently have under 23 years of age(inclusive) and then see what type of team we can create with these players. For positions where you believe we don’t have someone, write down "player required". Players you believe should be traded or de-listed indicate that too. Ok the list of players (I will include their YOB and how tall/heavy they are):

Michael Braun - 1978/176cm/73kg
Trent Carroll - 1978/191cm/92kg
Ben Cousins - 1978/179cm/80kg
Chad Morrison - 1978/183cm/86kg
Josh Wooden - 1978/180cm/84kg

Callum Chambers - 1979/184cm/76kg
Chad Fletcher - 1979/179cm/79kg
Michael Gardiner - 1979/198cm/103kg
Kasey Green - 1979/NA/NA
Rowan Jones - 1979/185cm/83kg
Phillip Read - 1979/177cm/78kg
Andrew Williams - 1979/185cm/82kg
David Wirrpunda - 1979/174cm/79kg

David Antonowicz - 1980/194cm/91kg
Dean Buszan - 1980/192cm/98kg
Kris Miller - 1980/180cm/82kg

Dean Cox - 1981/NA but apparently taller than Gardiner/NA
Andrew Embley - 1981/189cm/80kg
Travis Gaspar - 1981/195cm/84kg
Darren Glass - 1981/188cm/88kg
David Haynes - 1981/188cm/88kg
Adam Hunter - 1981/189cm/83kg

Zac Beeck - 1982/196cm/96kg
Andrew McCarrey - 1982/189cm/86kg
Kane Munro - 1982/180cm/70kg

Jeremy Humm - 1983/180cm/79kg
Daniel Kerr - 1983/176cm/68kg
Andrew McDougall - 1983/196cm/86kg

64% of our clubs list is under 23(inclusive). We have some real talent there with players capable of filling in specialised positions. In a while I will post down what I think the WC team of the future with these players will look like. Obviously some will not be included as some of them wont be good enough in the end. Whats important though is that we do have a good future, Travis Gasper apparently one to look for.

I haven't got time to put a team now, but I probably will later but i will say only one of those players to me from what I have seen of them should be delisted, Josh Wooden, otherwise we will agin be a powerhouse in the comp very soon with a good quality young list like that, just need a couple of years to mature and gain experience.

those stats are a bit old
cox is 203 and 90kg i think
green is 186cm
and gaspar is heavier than that, those are old years stats

CHF:- "Player Required"

... great teams have great CHF's.... and you guys are struggling in that department.

Not trying to stir... seriously
smile.gif

.... you need to find someone there and do it fast! .... losing BOTH Gherig and White will seriously hurt ya's... even though i get the feeling a lot of you weren't too sad to see them go....

Hopefully McDougall can come along in leaps and bounds over the next coule of seasons.

On the bright side, I think Trent Carrol will be a very good replacement for McIntosh at FB when he retires.

Travis Gaspar I think is the man we should develop into a CHF. He's very talented and has the right sort of build for it. Anyway there are quite a few youngsters that could become CHF:

Antonowicz (has the build but does he have the skill?)
Andrew Embley (most likely the one)
Travis Gaspar (Will be a key position player, CHF or CHB)
McDougall (See him more as a ruckman)

A couple of years of getting good draft picks will do very good for us. I honestly think that in a few years we will be a very good side. If this is to happen however the youngsters in the 20+ age group need to start having more games to bring up experience. We have been relying too much on the oldies and its time for a changing of the guard.

PS If we can get Jonathon Hay at the end of the year he will be very good for us

Fair enough Visro.

Still, I think Antonowicz (local Victorian western suburbs kid
wink.gif
) aint cut out for it. I could be wrong, and I've only seen him in a couple of games, and he could improve a fair bit in his 3rd season after a taste of it last year.

Embley? ...umm ...... no comment?
wink.gif
... seriously though .... could be 'serviceable' but although well developed physically, isn't a player who could win anywhere near enough matches off his own boot in the future (and that's what your aiming for IMO)... and if I had of been in your shoes last year .... I know I would have chosen the class and footy nous of White to aid in the development of the younger players. I still remember White's form during the latter part of the 90's, including his All Australian selection at CHF, very well. I would have loved to have seen him down the Whitten oval this year!
frown.gif

Haven't seen much of Gasper, but by the way all of you guys are rating him, he could go on and do well for ya's. If he's as good as you say (and since White has gone), I would throw him in the deep end, play him week in- week out.. short term pain long term gain! Embley would probably perform better now ... Gasper might occassionaly get destroyed .... but that's the best way the kids learn their trade.... playing against the best. Judge did it with Hay/Croad/Holland at Hawthorn, so doing it at WC shouldn't pose a problem.

You, yourselves admit that the team will go through a lean spell over the next couple of seasons, so what have you got to lose? Losing a couple more matches and have the kids get much-needed experience i say!

What would you rather? Play older players for a few years then have a Gasper who's had next to no senior experience try to step up, or play Gasper now, and in a couple of seasons have him stepping up as a gun youngster with 50-60 games under his belt?

Different story with Jackovich, as he's still a gun. But it'll be the same story in a year or two with CHB.

Anyway, why the hell am i posting on this board ... I've got my own team to worry about!

Ok, My team. Bear in mind I don't live in Perth so haven't seen many of the younger guys and could have some assabouttit.

Kasey Green Adam Hunter Kane Munro
Andrew Embley Travis Gasper Andrew Williams
Callum Chambers Chad Morrison(VC) Michael Braun
Rowan Jones Darren Glass David Wirrapunda(VC)
David Haynes Trent Carroll Phillip Read

Michael Gardiner(VC) Ben Cousins(C) Chad Fletcher

INT- Daniel Kerr, Jeremy Humm, Dean Cox, Andrew McDougall

EMERGENCIES- David Antonowicz, Zac Beeck

No use in denying it Westy, we know that your second club is WC and that you cant keep yourself of our board
wink.gif

Seriously though, about Embley, the guy has improved in leaps and bounds and although he might not be a key position player he could still be a handy forward or backman.

damn it had a whole post written that took very long and i forgot my pw
-----------------------------------------
ok i dont think embely is big enough for a chf, he will be a much more damaging player if he plays on the flank and gets the 3rd best defender, if he gets this hes going to be damaging

my side
FF: Munro Buszan Hunter
HF: Haynes Gaspar Williams
C: Jones Morrison Kerr
HB Glass McDougal Embely
FB: Wirra (new) Humm

Bench: Cox, Beeck, green, chambers, McCarrey

ff line
buszan - brute power
munro- most intellegent footy mind ive ever seen adds the crumbing ability to the forward line as well the atheleticism
Hunter - adds the spark of the specatucal with his natural ability and good marking ability

Hf line
Haynes - we recruited him for this purpose, because he can take a great grab, hes very soildly built and 188 cm tall and atheletic
Gaspar - 197 cm or so, very very hard at it and can take a good mark, obvious choice
Williams, another crumbing option, more of a specialist hf though, very strong for 185cm tall

C:
Kerr - wants to be the next matera, why stand in his way
Morrison, if he was a vic, would be all australian last year, 30 possesion average for 2nd half of year is amazing
Jones - one of the most gifted blokes atheletically at the club, too many clangers though for the time being to be a rover

HB
Glass - can be a hey postion player, but i would prefer to see him play as a half back because of his agility, it will allow him to be very reboudning, same iwth embley on other flank, hes very hard at it, agile enough for the midfield and almost all enough for a key postion post, the next kouta maybe, only 19 too
smile.gif
need his tougness in defense more id say, good defense is better than a good offense
mcdougal at CHB because hes strong, was the strongest ruckman at the afl camp, and very agile, we were lucky we got him, i thought he would go #1 at start of year, lucky he got injured
smile.gif
, strong tall agile skillfull hard working, what else is needed

FB wirra to add the pure skill and dash while humm to add the solidity of worsfold, bluey has obviously earmarked these 2 to be the smaller backs, wirra (simply awesome), and humm looks to be the attacking solid body on body player we need down back who is reliable but also effective
at fullback i want to see braun and banfield traded for a very high pick to hopefully get a very good fullback, we need one, i dont think antona and caroll got what it takes

Ruck: Garinder-
smile.gif
u already know why
Cousins - if u dont know why sorry wrong forum, this is AFL not soccer Fletcher - showed great skill lately should be promoted to midfield

Bench, 1 ruckman, 1 key postion player (beeck) and green and chambers as backup midfielders

FB Wirrpunda Carrol Read
HB Morrison Glass Jones
C Braun Kerr Humm
HF Embly Gaspar Williams
FF Munro Haynes Green
R Gardiner Cousins Fletcher
INT Cox Chambers Hunter McDougall

?????
Thats the best i can do. I just dont know enough about most of them to put them in there rights positions.

Go Eagles. I didn't put Buszan in as I didn't know anything about him, maybe someone can fill me in. Damn I can't wait till I move to Perth so I can go to WAFL games and also go to the Eagles Training so I can see the young guys straight away.

Our forward line in the future will be pretty damn good I think with Buznan, Hunter, Haynes, McDougal, Gaspar all there to kick the goals. I think I may have even missed a couple of small forward options as well.
biggrin.gif

Vis

Whoops missed Munro as well, he seems to be pretty sharp around the goals!

[This message has been edited by Visro (edited 27 March 2001).]

Ok I finally have enough time to create my future WC teams using most of the players I have listed previously:

FF: Hunter Buznan Munro
HF: Haynes McDougal Williams
C: Braun Kerr Jones
HB: Morrison Gaspar Wirrpunda
FB: Glass (Player Needed) Embley
R: Gardiner Cousins Fletcher
Int: Cox Green Humm Carroll
Emg: Read McCarrey Chambers

---------------------------------------------

Will now go through each section
biggrin.gif

Forward: There is a lot of potential here I believe and it could be a very powerful system. Munro has shown himself to be very sharp around the goals and is fairly athletic and could be used as a third option forward. Buznan I have heard huge wraps of, looks naturally to be a fullforward, right height and is fairly bulky and won't be pushed around. Add to that he can kick big bundles of goals and is fairly consistent. Hunter has been tainted as the new Modra by some people, he is a very good mark and kicking is quite good though could do with a bit of work. Overall the forward line is looking pretty good.

Half Forward: Haynes and Williams have allready proved themselves and suitable candidates for this position. Both are quick, a good mark and kick accurately. Two genuine half forward flankers here
biggrin.gif
. McDougal I have personally seen play and I can say he will probably be the next big half forward of WC. He is big enough for it, has the skills for it but will need to bulk up considerably if he doesn't want to be pushed around by opposition defenders.

Centre: Huge potential here. Braun has allready shown that he is a quality midfielder, who racks up the possesions by good play. Kerr's determination has startled me, he throws himself in at every thing but will need to improve kicking. Jones will be the teams tagger. He has allready shown that he does this very well against quality opposition players.

Half Back: This I believe will be our biggest strength area on the field. Morrison as we allready know is a very good half forward player, good defender and good rebounder. Should have got all australian last year. Gaspar looks to be a natural half back, has the height and strengh and is very talented, expect him to be played soon. Wirrpunda as we all know is to put it simply, brilliant. The guys defence work and rebounding skills will demolish the opposition literally. I would prefer him playing here as then he can have more impact on the game than if he is in a back pocket.

Full Back: Whoah some work needs to be done here. Glass we know is talented for his age and will steadily improve. He will eventually be a good solid defender. We desperately need a fullback, I am so hoping the Jonathon Hay will be lured back home to WA from Hawthorn. Some of you may be saying, EMBLEY!!!. Yes Embley, I have seen him play as a defender before and he has done very well against good opposition forwards. I dont think he is talented enought to be a key position player and the position should suit his build, speed and work ethic.

Ruck: Also a very strong area. Gardiner is now one of the best, if not the best ruckman in the league. He wins most of the tapouts and has a huge work ethic. Crumbed by Cousins, one of the best play makers in the league and Fletcher, a very fast developing rover we shouldn't be very weak in this area.

Interchange: Basically all we need, a spare ruckman, forward, midfielder and defender. All are good players who were probably a bit unlucky not to make the starting team but will undoubtly be important to success on field. Very good bench i think
biggrin.gif

Emergencies: Not much really to say. I dont think Read is up to AFL footy but could always be used. McCarrey I dont think will make a huge impact and Chambers is the same as Read. Still quite a good bunch of players but I wouldn't have them in my playing team unless I had to.

---------------------------------------------

Overall I think that is a pretty damn good team. It has a lot of potential but we musn't just shove them in straight away and expect them to start performing. This is why I believe we should keep Ken Judge even if we do do bad this year. He has shown with Hawthorn that he can slowly raise players so that they can become superstars. Its his speciality. As soon as we become powerfull again, let a more suitable coach take over. Anyway sorry for the long post but I felt a lot had to be said
biggrin.gif

Cheers Vis

In theory it is a great team. Definately premiership material.

But theory is not always true, when freo and port came into the AFL they had a sh!t load of draft concessions and picked up lots of youngsters with potential. Freo's players are absolutely pathetic and only a few of ports players are good. None of them have realised their potential. The same could happen to the eagles. Lets hope KJ can turn potential into reality.
