Eagles Make Wholesale Changes, McDougall To Play

By Daniel Garb

The West Coast Eagles have called up eight players to face the Brisbane Lions on Sunday at the Gabba, with four players going out of the current 26 man squad.

Andrew McDougall has been named in the forward line and will make his first appearance for the Eagles this season.
The other players to be named are Damien Adkins, Josh Wooden, Trent Carroll, Troy Wilson, Chad Morrison and rookie Adam Selwood.
Phil Matera and Travis Gaspar were ruled out earlier in the week whilst Kane Munro injured his shoulder at training today.
Adam Hunter has been omitted.
One of the interesting notes at the selection table was the naming of Selwood in the Eagles squad.
He is the club's third selection and 53rd overall in the 2002 draft, and will debut if he gets a start, after impressive form in the WAFL for East Perth. Adam's twin brother Troy plays for Brisbane and is expected to be named in their team for the clash, meaning the brother's could make their debut against each other on Sunday.
Other interesting inclusions are that of Troy Wilson, Damien Adkins and Josh Wooden who have all been out of the Eagles team for some time, however they have all been dominating in the WAFL for their respective clubs.
All the AFL and WAFL sides can be seen right here on FootyGoss under the team lists section.

Its great, we'll get a tall in so our forward line will be a hell of a lot better this week. I like it, Woosha has done the right thing.

The fact Doogs is in the 22 could mean we'll be without Willo (which IMO would be a shame :( ). But selwood would be an interesting one. Wonder if twins have made their debut in a game against each other before? Reckon though he could just go as an emergency. Good to see Wooden (both of them) and Adkins back. Some run against the Lions would do us well.

Isn't funny how much more exciting Team nights are when you're team is doing well and has decent players to pick from?

I remember it was a bit different in 2001. I didn't give a rip 'cos we had no players and the way we were playing it didn't matter anyway. How things have changed... :D

I'm really happy, Doogs had to come in and stay there for at least a month to be given a good chance.
Adkins, Wooden( just one haha, i noticed they edited the story on the site, as I did to the pasting here), Morrison and Humm on the bench for me.
Drop Carroll, Wilson and give Selwood more time, good to see them all being recognised though.
Should be a big game...cmon Eagles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looking at the bench, I'd say that either Carroll or Wilson will be in as a big man - I'm tending toward Carroll at the moment as McDougall has already been named as a forward.

Otherwise I'd like to see Adkins and Wooden rewarded for their performances, and I guess Morrison would be the best of the rest, although it would be interesting to see Selwood get a game. I must admit to not knowing much about him.

I must say I'm surprised Collica couldn't find a spot. Maybe the Eagles want him to have another few weeks match fitness or something....

Something's up, he's been in the WAFL for over 2 months, if you don't have fitness after that you'll never have it.
It's either a serious injury that's stopping him from playing AFL footy or something else...it's crazy though, the guy was in our top 3 best players in the 2 years previous.

I dont think just because Doogs is in that Wilson wont be, we need someone to do the back up Ruck work(which we didnt really have last week) So we may yet see Mr Wilson travel. Adam Selwood hasnt been burning the WAFL alight but has been performing consistetly, down back if i remember correctly? and i think it would be great to see him debut this week.

Wooden, Chipper, Wilson, Selwood are who i think should stay in the side.

Good to see the sensible resting of the injured Cox, Collica and Read - it's a long season. Not surprised to see Hunter dropped after recent form. McDougall certainly gets the big games - Manuka, Final & now Brissy away!

I'd like to see Wilson play - we might need him at FB or FF - and if he doesn't with so many injured players, I can't see how he's going to get back in.

That defence looks really dodgy and Jako might go back to CHB, maybe Chad Morrison in and Carroll would have to be a chance, though he looked a bit sulky for Claremont last week.

I'd like to think that Wilo and Doogal Howser can both fit in the team, especially given Brisbane's rucks, Howser could spend some time on the ball, or at CHF, if Jak goes back to defence (which I don't think he will).... I think Wooden is a certainty, especially given his game against them last year, I still maintain that Wilo and Hatnes can fit in the one forward line .... Adkins to provide some onball relief and probably Morrison. Don't think we need the extra tall defender (given their team) so I couldn't see Carroll playing.

Actually, how we play our forward line could decide the game (well d'uh). CHF especially, Jako v Leppitsch, Haynes v Michael, McDougall v White.

...... but I hate to say it, Leppa would probably beat Jak, so we must, somewhere get a marking forward if Jako isn't going to be a consistent winning target. anyone agree with that?

Haynes could be that man, but how much better would it be, if Michael didn't play on Haynes, lets say he plays on, I don't know, WILSON!! I think, with Wilo, we could really stretch them, get Wilo v Michael, then who takes Haynes? White? unlikely, not tight enough.... But then again ... maybe we go (like the rest of the season) small again, and try to mis-match small instead of tall....

so for me - Wilo, Adkins, Morrison and Wooden. With Wilo being the Train at FF.

rant over

No, but he is playing with injuries at East Freo which is limiting his mobility and form.......
Is that the Foundation Day thing? Must be reasonably minor if he's still playing on in the WAFL.

Great to see McDougall in.

I dont think either of the Selwood's will play - judging on their weight, it doesn't seem their bodies could take the rigours of AFL football, Adam is 188cm and 81kgs, while Brisbane's Troy is 187cm and 75kgs.....

I dunno, could be wrong

I think Wilson will play, and I also think Morrison and Wooden will play. Which leaves it between Carroll, Adkins and Humm for the last spot, which I feel will go to Carroll for some defensive reassurance.

Humm, Adkins and Selwood emergencies

And what has happened to Collica??? and Read (is he still injured)???

Im pretty happy to see Doogs finally get a gig, let's hope he can impress and perhaps play again the following week  :D

Matera and Gaspar are injured and also Munro being injured at training is unlucky because I think he may have kept his spot to cover for Matera. Hunter's omition had to come.

As for who is going to come in from that 7 man bench?? I think Wooden and Morrison will definitely play and Selwood and Adkins definitely wont. That leaves Carroll, Wilson and Humm fighting for the remaining 2 spots. Humm may get one and then the Wilson/Carroll decision will just come down to whether or not Whoosha wants to go more offensive of defensive.

We only have 2 talls down back in Milli and Glass but Jako can obviously go back if needed. Already having Doogs and Jako in the forward line could leave Willow out in the cold. Unless Doogs is in primarily for ruck duties rather than a forward?

Rant over...im just glad Doogs has got a game!

Jako v Leppitsch would be a slaughter. Jako may break even in the one on one contests but he has no chance of stopping Leppitsch when he runs forward. I'm not sure who we can play at CHF but whoever it is will have to be mindful of his opponent.

for me the ins would be: wooden, morrison, adkins and carroll but i'm guessing it will come down to getting the right march ups.

Collica and Chambers really seem to have fallen out of favour. They were both excellent for us last season

Good to see Doogs get a run, hopefully he can impress and start cementing his spot in the side

I'd like to see Wilson in, he's very quick off the mark and if not used forward then he could possibly be used down back on someone like Leppitsch?

A lot will depend on match ups, the only certainty i think is Wooden after his stellar form in the WAFL

Good to see Doogs in. I too wonder about Collica and just hope he has not fallen out of favour with the club. If Wilson does go to FF in this game, I hope he plays well or I think this may be the last game for him at the club.
