Has something of a plan, lacks the cattle to make that work consistently.

Needs to adapt to what he has to work with a bit more, rather than shuffling the deck to try and find what he needs to make his plan work - admittedly, that is something happening less in 2026.

If he can hang in long enough to reap the rewards of some tough years, I think he's an astute guy who has handled himself well despite really staring down the barrel at times.

Does he have the 'prick' in him to be a top level coach?
Unsure - but I think he's a good fit for where the Eagles group is right now.

I feel there are signs he could become a very good coach with some of the moves he's made, but he also gives the impression that he's learning on the job more than most. By his own words, he thought we'd improve far more quickly than we have. Perhaps he was a tad naive in that regard.

And he has a great rapport with the players by all accounts.

I posted this on the eagles board and will post it here.

Yes the eagles have won 3 games this season. But in 2 of those wins, he was willing to take a risk and change up the team. Here are 2 examples.

1. The Port game in Adelaide oval. The game was in the balance at half time. He decided to put Harley Reid up forward. He kicked 2 marks. He kicked 2 goals from set shots. That was a key tactic as Eagles won by under a goal. Eagles won with a forward 50 mark with 35 seconds to go. They were up by a point anyway.

2. Eagles were up at half time by a goal. Yes GWS kicked 5 goals in the 3rd quarter. But one of the tactics McQualter tried was throw ruckman Bailey Williams up forward. He too marks in the forward 50. He did take a mark in the 4th quarter and kicked a set shot goal to get west coast eagles the lead.

Eagles won in a similar way they beat Port. They managed to get a free kick in the forward 50 with 35 seconds to go. Milan Murdoch did kick a nice set shot goal on the siren from the boundary line

they were not too bad vs Collingwood at the MCG.

I will say this and I posted this on the eagles board.... McQualter isnt afraid to change tactics at half time. He done so in 2 games and reslted in wins.

1. He made a tactic at half time vs Port at Adelaide oval. He decided to put his best midfielder Harley Reid up forward. He took 2 marks inside 50 and nailed 2 goals. They were lucky to beat Port but did some smart things. Nearly lost the game when they had a one point lead then somehow managed to get a mark inside 50 with 35 seconds to go. Drain the time and the siren sounded with a one point lead.

2. He made a change vs GWS in Perth at half time. Decided to put Bailey williams up forward. He Kicked 2 goals after half time. The 2nd goal he kicked from a set shot got Eagles the lead. In a similar way to the Win vs Port, they scrambled the ball in the forward 50. Eagles somehow got a free kick in the forward 50 with 30 seconds to go. Eagles had the lead by 11 points when the siren sounded. Milan Murdoch kicked a goal from the boundary on the 50 metre paint in a tight angle.
