I thought Robert Murphy spent most of the day on Embley? Or am I mistaken?

Anyway, I thought you just shaded Embers for bog honours, Disco. Kept us in the match during that third quarter.

as has been said, manning up was the problem, but more specifically its the defensive running of the midfield and half forwards. the backs were ok and matera, sampi and haynes had good defensive games (they love blocking it in and creating oppurtunities for each other dont they)

when the ball is in our possession and is going forward, we run and try to create oppurtunities by sheperding or getting into position to help out (either an open marking option, tall pack marking option, at the foot of a pack, or a handball out of trouble), and thats great, but in the event of a turnover you really need to run hard back to your opponent, to cover their offensive run thru the midfield and into their forward fifty. pressure not just on the carrier but especially the run-with players means less oppurtunity for possessions and effective disposal into their forward line. too many times the bulldogs had too much time to deliver well to players in too much space between the arcs, even when the ball had been in their possession for 10 seconds or more (generally time enough for our boys to man up) this was our big problem against the bombers too. ok macintosh got toweled up by lloyd, but essendon had too easy a time finding a player with enough space to get good disposal to him.

its all about fitness and awareness, i thought that we were one of the fittest sides in the comp with our great finishing this year, but maybe we are starting to tire.

I think he spent a bit of the first half on him along with Sammy Power. After half time Murphy went on to Judd which IMO turned the game.Murphy stopped Judds influence and had 14 second half touches himself.Embley had 3 opponents for the day I believe.

Mead, I agree with everyone else, and think you must have been at another game.

I would put Braun as BOG, if not him, Cuz.

You raved about Embley - just go and have a look at who his direct opponent was, and then see who got best for the Bulldogs. You might be amazed, but I think it may have been his player. For two weeks in a row - Embleys man has got BOG. Last week McPhee kicked 4 and set up two. This week his man kicked a bag also.

For some reason you have taken a disliking to Braun and bag him all the time. I would say that since coming back from the WAFL he has been in the top half of our better players.

Yesterday was his best game of the season.....we can't have a full team of attacking players...some need to be defensive and do the things that receivers don't do. Braun is that. He will be getting 5 votes from me this week.
See Mead....straight from the horses mouth. Braun played well! :D

BTW forgot to mention it in my previous post, because I was so mystified as to why you thought Braun had a shocker. But I again loved your Book of Whoosha, class stuff!

Well he would say that, wouldn't he? :)

I suppose I should apologise if I'm coming across as Braun hating- the truth is, I don't. I was skeptical about how he'd fit into the side this year, but he pretty much converted me with outstanding efforts v Geelong and Collingwood, and if you look back, you'll find I said as much at the time.

As I said, there were several incidents which colored my view of his game considerably, possibly because they happened right in front of me. On both ocasions, Braun just *stood* there, and didn't shepherd for his team mate, didn't try and run into space and present, just got in the way. In my defence, I'd note that if I'm a paranoid anti-braun nut, then I'm not by any stretch of the imagination the only such nut- the entire block I was sitting in was getting stuck into him on those instances, and some were a lot less kind than me. I suppose again, that might have influenced my opinion.

Anyway, 'nuff said. I'll just resign myself to being taken with a grain of salt on all matters Braun in future. And MDB, you're so very very wrong about Embley.

Mead, I don't think Im wrong about Embly. I believe that each player on the field has a direct opponent, and should take responsibility for that opponent. No good you getting 30 possessions if you oppenent is just as damaging.
