I think Staker tackled Grant at the last because he made a move to play on. It looked like he turned to the right and pulled his hand back to punch the ball to a running player.

Dean Kemp did the same thing to Lucas in 1999, when he was actually bringing his fist forward and got pinged the same way. The new mark was the goal line that time.
Spot on. Grant did fake to play on and Buffy fell for it. He will do better for the experiance though.

I agree with you 100%. He only got the ball once in front of him, the rest were overhead , which is not his strength.
But his second efforts just weren't there. He played without passion and needs to be asserting himself.
For me, I would have Johnson at FF next week. He is much more physical and puts in 100%

its good to finally win again at Telstra Dome...

the bulldogs eagles game made the back page of the herald sun this morning..

it includes a picture of wirrpunda clearly holding onto koops with the caption: 'Where's the whistle?: David Wirrpunda ******s Steven Koops.'

and it has the writing below it:

Hanging Offence
Where: 35m from goal.
When: 90 seconds to go.
What: Dogs 2 points down.
Why not holding the man?

how do you say.. sore losers?

Good report Mead!

I think I pointed out that I thought that Jak would play and at CHF and that Adkins would play.

Jak was very good at CHF. A very, very difficult position to play. A lot of Jak's good work goes unnoticed. A classic example of this is he leads up the ground taking Grant( an outstanding player with him) he provides space behind allowing Fido to run into the space. Jak took some great grabs and when required stood his usual tall self in the backline.
The change in the last quarter when Cox went to CHF and Grant and the Bullies backline repelled a lot of forward play was indicative of Jak's previous effort. Woosha quickly put Jak back to CHF where we started getting the ball forward again and into that lovely space behind him.

A quality performance with a mature outlook to sometimes devoid himself of his natural instincts to get the ball. I said it before; last year Jak's performance at CHF were great but he did not have the fitness to last out more than a half in this tough , demanding running position. This year I hope that we see more of Jak doing the hard yards on the frontline.
My only disappointment with Jak was a kick that clearly should of gone to a player and instead it went OOB.

Lynch towelled early but came back great. Good learning curve.
Humm good on Cooney but average on other opponents with poor decision making.
Green struggled.
Carrolls best game by a long way. Rawlings fell into trap of trying to get a free and the one he got he was holding Carrolls jumper as much as Carroll was - play on.
Cox didn't handle Darcy's tactics ( not just the tunneling). Cox likes to jump into an opponent. Darcy stayed down and often got tapouts. Cox good learning curve.
McDougal was very poor. Looks like a player who doesn't believe that he is good enough to play at this level.

Worth noting that when the blowtorch was on, it was our established players that held the line. Our young guns were generally well off the pace, and our backline failed to man up. Conceding 20 goals is hardly accountable footy.

And this is exactly the reason why I'm not getting too cranked up about our prospects this season. McDougall, Lynch, Staker, et al all need a lot more time to develop.

Admittedly we are are 5-6 goal better team at Subi, but if we show the same level of accountability against Port then players like Tredrea, Dew, Cornes and the Burgoynes will chew us up.

That said, it was a great effort to get up off the canvas three times and win.

The Doggies must really hate Sampi now.

Koops is the second biggest stager for free kicks in the comp after Lloyd. Some of his acting efforts for Freo over the years have been laughable. In fact, it's probably why Connolly sent him on his merry way.

Karma if you ask me.
