what's the heads up on Hunter? read in the paper he's nearing comback. Anyone know anything else? The sooner he's fit and healthy the sooner Carroll is out of the side :D

If you are watching Woosha this would be my team for Round 1.

FF Sampi McDougall Matera
FB Robbins Harris Hargrave

HF Chick Johnson Staker
HB Murphy Grant Smith

C Judd Fletcher Jones
C Giansiracusa West Eagleton

HB Nicoski Lynch Wirrpunda
HF Cooney Bandy Power

FB Embley Hunter Gardiner
FF Bowden Rawlings Darcy

R: Cox Cousins Braun
R: Street Hahn Johnson

Int: Seaby Green Morrison Adkins
Int: Skipper McMahon Garlick Gilbee

Darcy has been playing in the forward line during the practice matches and would create a problem for us in the tall department. I have included Gardiner but if he isn't fit then I would replace him with Jako. We need someone with a bit of pace to run with Rawlings and Patrick Bowden has been a standout for the Dogs in the forward line. I would give Jones a run with role on Brad Johnson and alternate him with Chick if Johnson started getting on top. Jones and Braun to swap over after the centre bounce.

Nicoski would add some run out of the backline and Morrison could swap with Embley if Bowden started to fire. Adkins, Wirrpunda and Sampi to provide the rotations for our midfielders. I would expect Gardiner to play on Darcy. I have placed him in the backline for match up purposes but rather than letting the Doggies dictate terms I would place Gardiner (if fit) in the forward line to pull Darcy away from the play with Matera behind him to clean up the crumbs.

I agree about not letting the dogs dictate terms- really the question which needs to be asked is do we trust our midfield to run over the dogs? If the answer is yes (and I damn well hope it is!), then it makes sense to play Gardiner forward and let the dogs respond to us rather than vice versa. Hunter, if match fit, I would definitely like on Rawlings first off, and and I think I would actually give Jako the assignment on Darcy if he starts forward initially- a defensive role on a ruckman in the pocket is probably one of the (few) defensive tasks Glen should be able to handle- certainly, he'll be strong enough to handle Darcy in the marking duels, and thats the biggest thing you have to worry about when ruckmen go forward.

I like Wirrpunda or Morrison on Cooney if he starts forward- he's not noted for his accountability, and if Wirra got on top him early, then he could very well put together one of those game-winning 'crumb everything' performances that he specialises in.

Really though, with Brown out of that lineup that about a 48 point gap for the dogs to make up over what usually happens when we play :)

Thanks for the summary Mead.

Living in Brisbane I find it very difficult to get information about the eagles. For this match the local paper, The Courier Mail, only had the match score in the sports results.

It will get a bit better once the season starts with the coverage of Foxfooty, but even then, your comments are appreciated.

Regards and always remember to keep enjoying the good things in life.

ditto those sentiments. I live in Nigeria, and apart from video tapes sent to me (usually get them 1-2weeks after the game), am entirely reliant on info I get off the web. Of all the available written summaries of matches, I find the GBU is head and shoulders above the rest.
Keep up the good work.

My Wife has a two year contract as doctor here. I also do some short term contract work, mostly for the UN and occasionally travel to Geneva.
I have so much free time at the moment I also enrolled in a distance degree thru the London School of Economics......first year exams coming up in May/June, need to pull my finger out now.
We live in one of the better parts of the country....quite peaceful and the climate is pretty mild....we might even stay a third year as we are saving a shirtload of money.
