Eagles vs dees 2018 almost identical to 1994 as was the Pies game

This may be the last night this thread can live on this year... so here's somewhat of a tangent:

1992 we finished the regular season in 4th spot. When finals rolled around, St. Kilda (6th) caused a boilover and beat Collingwood (3rd) in an elimination final, which meant our 4th v 5th elimination final sent us to a double chance/straight into the grand final 2nd Semi away from home, which we won.

If Brisbane can cause what would be a boilover and knock over Richmond tomorrow, then we get back into 4th spot. Then only have to win 1 away final and 1 home final and to make the grand final, just like in 1992. :)

Was the same year we lost by a point to Collingwood at home, lost our second last game of the season, and finished on 15 wins.

Also, in 1994, we got our arses handed to us at home by Hawthorn.

Omens man.

(or maybe that correlations can be found everywhere).

Yeah I remember all of that. For you guys I don't like the 15-7 part though. As you know in 92 you drew up at Carrara so you lost 6 games as you did in 94 and 2018.

7 losses for WCE just doesn't work, like in 2007:)

I reckon Brisbane gets poleaxed today, but who knows.

eagles as defending champs have gone out in the semi finals 3 out of 3 times.

2007 when the Cats topped the ladder, eagles out in week 2 against the Pies.

In 1993 in their elimination final game, against a Victorian opponent, the Eagles kicked 17 goals 18 points. Tonight they kicked 17.14.

Each time as defending champs the Eagles have lost in the semis to a Victorian Opponent, and a Vic side won the flag that year.

I think these are bad omens for the Eagles. Not on tonights form though, they were brilliant!

We weren't a top 4 side in 96 really, this year we've been top 4 most of the season. Also the MCG was our bogey ground.

Totally different now, it all depends on our form at the time.

It's 2012 all over again. Missing top 4 only to have Collingwood finish 4th. Big elimination final win at home. Likely a semi against the Pies at the G which could go to the wire.

Well lads in 1992 you beat us in a semi final...... at the G.

You guys won at home in the first week. 2nd place on the ladder lost ( we beat the Doggies after finishing 1st ) the 5th placed team won ( saints beat the Pies ) the 5th placed team this time was obviously you guys.

I don't think you will win it this year but hey, that's something at least!

said to my old man the eagles were down by about 17 odd points in the GF ( or 18 ) to the Pies then Shuey nailed a goal at about 1 min 21 just before half time. I said the Eagles would snag one right on half time this time as well and bang they nailed one. Same kind of margins.

I think we kicked the first 3 goals of the 92 GF, could have been 4 before you came back and won.

Omens?

I reckon you guys will beat us. If Ryan nailed that goal with 30 odd seconds left * me.

50/50 going into the 2nd half.

sorry lads, this time the omens didn't go for you. It was another semi final exit when you's held the Championship.

Good fight and once you overcame that 32 point lead I thought you's had us. Better luck in the future and I enjoyed your football these last few years.

A week ago there was a news story about an eagle being hit by a Qantas plane. The superstitious part of me took that as a bad omen lol. Omens look good for 2020, though.

Ok guys this one works against you this time

I knew there was something eery similar with the Eagles game against North yesterday.

2007 as reigning Premiers The Eagles played the Roos at home and kicked............

18.13 = 121 points

First quarter score was WCE 5.4 to 3.1 ( North kicked 3.1 in the opening term yesterday )

Half time Eagles had 8 goals kicked, as they did yesterday

And at 3 quarter time North had 7 goals kicked for the game, as they did yesterday.

Their spearhead in 2007 Q. Lynch had 7 scoring shots for 3.4

JK Had 7 scoring shots for 7 goals

Could be like 2007 where an interstate side unexpectedly made the GF ( Port ) and lost to Geelong. Maybe the Lions make it and lose to us this year.
I posted this on July 28. And look at this, posted it a few weeks ago in the amazing coincidences thread on GD

Lose to the Pies in week 2

I think the Pies win it actually. Nonetheless so many shades of 2007.
And add to this

Eagles out in the semi finals as reigning premiers in 2007 and 2019
In their semi final against vic opponent they led at 3 qtr time by 4 points, lost by 19 in 2007, 20 in 2019.

This thread was fun while it lasted. Sure Geelong finished 1st like in 2007 and Brisbane finished 2nd but both won’t meet in the Grand Final.

We finished 15-7 and also went out in week 2 to a Vic side.
