Prediction Early 2013 ladder predictions

That's a big call.
Do you really hold out more hopes for this 2012-13 group than you did back then (of course, not knowing what we know now) for the 2002-03 group?

I had hopes for the 2002-2003 group, but none of us would have predicted 3 premierships. We'd been too battle-scarred for that. I certainly was.

And I'm NOT saying this group of young players will deliver 1 or 2 or 3 premierships. What I'm saying is - at this stage they look as talented as any young group I've seen at Geelong. The players I mean are - Duncan, Menzel, Christensen, Guthrie, Horlin-Smith, Vardy, Smedts, Brown, and Murdoch. I defer opinion (and that's all it is) on the even younger guys as I haven't seen enough of them yet. The reality is only the first three have become regular senior players so far, but I'm very confident all of those names can become quality senior footballers. I've never known a time when every young guy who gets a game for us at least looks capable at senior level. There have always been one or two who looked lost and never made up that gap. None of the current tyros have done that (yet). Even Walker and Murdoch have shown mighty impressive glimpses despite modest outputs.

If you look at the names we got around 1999-2002 we had about a 50/50 success rate. We get that with these guys, and assuming Hawkins, Selwood, and Taylor stay healthy, we'll have a very competitive side before too long.

But don't worry, the glass isn't half full yet!

Last year it was a case of anything could happen and I expect this year to be more of the same, if not more so.
If I'm half right I would be amazed!

6. Adelaide
7. Fremantle
8. Essendon
9. Richmond (too obvious a choice maybe)

ha, sorry dont know about your finals predictions bud, cause in the history of the game no team has EVER won 4 finals games in a row (which means no team outside the top 4 has ever been in the grand final). dont see your love for richmond either

Most teams will probably improve, however I'm tipping Collingwood and Fremantle to go backwards. Not sure how Sydney will back up, and in a close competition the FIXture becomes important => West Coast will probably win 11-12 games at Subi, Adelaide have a soft draw, and Hawthorn a tough one. Here's hoping the longer pre-season fixes some injury concerns and HMac/Menzel come good. Essendon to continue to feel the effects of 2012 soft tissues, Blues/Tiges to be more consistent but still have systemic flaws in team balance/depth, and who knows about North. Hirdy and Voss in danger of the axe. So:

1. West Coast
2. Adelaide
3. Sydney
4. Geelong
5. Hawthorn
6. Collingwood
7. North
8. Fremantle
----------------------------
9. Essendon
10. Richmond
11. Carlton
12. St. Kilda
13. Melbourne
14. Port Adelaide
15. Brisbane
16. Gold Coast
17. GWS
18. Western Bulldogs

i agree about collingwood, but why will fremantle go backwards?, after a good pre season mundys back to his true form along with barlow, fyfe has bulked up, crowly is even fitter to tag, we got danyle pearce and he will get the taggers off of hill, johnson and duffield have become super stars, mcfarlin will have confidence from winning all australian, dawson has gotten heaps better, suban is ready to because and be a great midfeilder and walters was a great forward last year for only half the season im looking forward to see how many goals he can slot with a full season since he has gotten better, and same with clancee pearce looking forward to seeing what he could do in a whole season of being great, freo will defiently rise, not go backwards

Adelaide did it in 1997.

It's the road to Damascus when Saul, Christian hater, was blinded by the light of Christ, became a born-again Christian , name change to Paul, if you really want to know.Quite the conversion.
Definitely worth a LIKE.

Kinda like when Buddha changed his name to Whiskas.

I 'retired' from bigfooty about 20 minutes ago, but then happened to see this post.

Just had to quote. One of the funnier things I have read here for a very long time :D Kudos!!!

To be honest I don't half those players but I'm still thinking Freo are heavily dependent on Pav and Sandilands and they've both been injured in the preseason. Not every team can improve so I had to pick someone. Just a hunch really.

Plus I don't like Freo... :)

Good points about 211 & Pav, but apart from their coach, who I don't trust, I quite like Freo. Would not mind if they win a Flag this era; talent-laden.
Their coach seems to have Geelong always worked out, apart from09 GF.

OKAY i will have a stab at this:

1. West Coast
2. Collingwood
3. Fremantle
4. Sydney
5. Geelong
6. Hawthorn
7. Carlton
8. North Melbourne
9. Adelaide
10. Brisbane
11. Richmond
12. Essendon
13. Port Adelaide
14. GWS
15. Melbourne
16. Western Bulldogs
17. St. Kilda
18. Gold Coast

GF: West Coast def. Sydney
Brownlow: Josh Caddy
Coleman: Hawkins/Walker

Richmond to finish on equal points to Adelaide and Brisbane.

Everyone thought Freo depended on Pav & Sandi too much at the start of the year.
Do you know why?
Cause they did.
Don't know if that's bump worthy.

just because pav and sandi were our best players dosent mean we are dependent of them, just because johnson and selwood are geelongs best players dosent mean they are too heavily reliant on them, of course everyteam are still going to be somewhat reliant on there 2 best players.... and i bet pav and sandi are the only two players you know, dont just beleive what everyone tells you mate!

At the start of the year Freo WERE dependent on those 2.
Luckily this season, for the first time, they found a way to play well without them...

And believe it or not I actually do know more than 2 Fremantle players.
As strange as it may seem.

every team is dependent on their best 2 players, but if you acually knew about fremantle before this season you would have known their was enough talent in the team to win without those 2, they still won games without pav and sandi in 2012. with walters and mayne starting to get good in 2012 we knew we would be able to do without pav, and clark and griffen started to rise so we knew we would be able to do without sandi too...

and what makes you say we were THAT dependent on those 2?, just cause everyone else said it, they only reason they said it is because nobody treats fremantle with any respect because they big brother the eagles outdid them most of the time

I do actually have an opinion of my own you know.
I, myself, thought Freo depended on Pav & Sandi too much.
It was a common opinion at the start of this season and had been for a while.

In 2012, Pav missed 1 game.
Sandi missed 10. In those 10 games Freo went 6-4 with wins against Gold Coast, Bulldogs, Melbourne, GWS & Port Adelaide who all finished in the bottom 5 spots on the
That doesn't really help your "Freo knew how to play without Sandi & Pav in 2012 theory" does it?

phhhh you can

you cannot base those loses because we didnt have sandilands, we lost to carlton on round 5 when they were going great and ere predicted a top 4 finish at the time, hawthorn (minor premiers), west coast (were considered top 4 before they became injury cursed), and adelaide who finsihed top 2, all while it was early in the season and they were still getting use to ross lyons game plan, even if we had sandi we would have lost those games. ( we were also missing fyfe)

I didn't say anything about the losses, I talked about the wins they had without Sandi.
And of the 6 wins they had without him 5 of those were against the bottom 5 sides.
It's hardly strong evidence for your waning case.

yeah but it was a fluke that sandi was out for the bottom 5 teams, we dont know if freo were dependent or not on sandi cause he was never out when we were playing sides that were placed 6th-12th
