just a quick question...is there a limit of players from one school. because the likes of MGS, hailebury and to a lesser extent xavs and skevs, would surely have a few guys who would be in contention.

also, who are the selectors this year for the team?

I think each school nominates three players to go to training and the team is picked from there, i could well be wrong but i think thats how they did it last year.

im not that sure but from what ive heard is schools nominate a number of boys, not sure the limit, and then every coach will have a say on how they feel that player played against there team, and then its cut down to 30 man squad and the coaching staff pick the team from that. there was 8 or so nominated from my school, but that will obviously get cut down

you gotta be kidding keath and may r so good its ridiculous
MAy is massive for a year ten and will definately play AFL kicked a goal from 50m on the weekend and it went about 15m past the line (dunnno if it was 50 but it said it was).

so if ur massive you will be drafted..sam crocker kicked a goal from the centerline at caulfield and hes a year 10, not even big

It definitely helps, and considering he is the tallest player in the team and can run down Adam Marangon (one of the best sprinters in the APS) AND he was runner up in the u15 player of the carnival award, i would have thought AFL was a pretty realistic line of thought.

yeah good point. even though tom hawkins was drafted to geelong. although hes a great mark. his size makes him quite slow. may however is very fast for his size and has a career in afl

Just quietly, how are there 6 Grammar kids in the squad but no Ash Smith? Seriously, what a joke. Not one of those Grammars are as good as Smith, and it's not just these guys who have nothing on him but are still included in the squad over him. Is he injured or anything? Personally I can't see any reason why Smith hasn't been one of the first included, although I admit that my knowledge is definately restricted on injuries etc.

maybe haileybury already have too many in it

Game will be played at Xavier.

Although Oakleigh have asked that their players don't play, apparently there are quite a few planning to do so anyway. Stupid move by Oakleigh, with a 4 day gap between the APS AGS game and TAC it has little impact on them whatsoever.

The non-inclusion of Ash Smith cannot have been a result of Hailebury having too many players, as Melbourne have more. Absolutely ludicrous.

Training is/was at Xavier.
Game to be played at Elsternwick Park next Wednesday evening.

Oakleigh have softened their stance following a call from TAC boss Leon Harris who wasn't impressed.

Ash Smith was not included as he was injured at the time of Nominations.

Squad trained very well last night!

Great to see players like Watts, Lynch, Vickery, Noonan, Cachia, Hannebery, Gilchrist all supporting the game. All trained last night and have made themselves available.
:D

oakliegh have a 6 day break playing on this sunday and then having to front up at bendigo the following saturday..for a team building up to finals it would be fair enough for them not wanting their best players having 3 games in 6 days

Which is the opinion of the club officials.

Would it also be fair for the players to miss such a high profile game?
There are recruiters from every club there wanting to see the crop of the APS and AGS.

The AFL were loud in their support of this game. They have also been very loud in their instruction to clubs to support the players who opt to play for the APS.

Essentially it has been left in the players hands. If they feel their bodies are right to play on Wednesday, they will. Same deal for the following weekend.

For those who are on the fringe of being drafted, the APS v AGS game is a huge opportunity for them.

If you're good enough to be drafted, the recruiters would have seen you by now, or they can watch you play TAC in the next few weeks.
this is nothing more than a scrimage

I disagree. It's another opportunity to show some of the best talent in Victoria, and considering basically everyone plays school over TAC (at least in the APS) I'd like to think there'd be a lot of recruiters making the trip to the game, as has been the case in previous years. There will be guys playing who the recruiters havn't seen much of due to their school commitments, so personally I see it as a lot more than just a scrimmage.

Last year Easton Wood(GGS) did well in this game, and got drafted despite not playing TAC. So it can happen.

Of the non TAC players in the APS squad, I would say Lapin would be the best hope, as he has the athleticism and skill required. Any Others?
