Okay just to mix it up a little, I've noticed that all the threads on the board are a little weak with no real spice. Therefor just putting it out there, who do you think will be given the chop at the end of the year?

Hogan, DJ and Tenace are probably the most vulnerable - if Davenport and Lonergan don't show any improvement they are probably next in line.

Byrnes should be but apparently he has in his possession a photo of Bomber, Cook and Costa in a compromising situation with a llama and now will go on to play 300 games...

I think Byrnes will definitely go at the end of the year unless he shows a great improvement.

I reckon Tenace is vulnerable as his DJ. DJ is one of my favourite players.

I dont know about Hogan and Davenport etc.

I think Geelong will be looking at picking up some key positions players in the next draft espeically down back. Milbrun and Scarlett arent spring chickens anymore.

One more pacy midfielders is also a requirement i think

Wow this thread is just a tiny bit negative...
but you're all entitled to it so fair enough.

I have to disagree with Davenport being axed. I really think he will be very valuable to our team he just needs a chance. He has been fantastic in the VFL so far.

Maybe this thread could be conceived as being negative, however at least it is slightly interesting and requires an insight of the posters beliefs. Most of the threads on the main board are incredibly boring and are talking about the season box dvd pack ect.
Back to the point, I agree Davenport was very good for the VFL side last year, however he wont be given that much time and numerous opportunities to prove his worth and unfortunately for him if this year is a hit and miss he may be one that finds himself delisted at the years end.

Assuming we could be in the hunt for some quality key position players, here's my trade list, and reasons why (remembering this is purely hypothetical):

Josh Hunt - made one too many mistakes in 08, and is offloaded as "100 game + Premiership defender."

Joel Corey - with Davenport and Selwood coming on so nicely in 08, Geelong bite the bullet and trade Corey to Fremantle or WCE for top 10 draft pick.

Tom Lonergan - doesn't cut the grade and is offered for trade, not picked up, and disappears. His departure made easier by the return of the hungrier prodigal son, Nathan A.

Mark Blake - never recovers from disappointment of being dropped for 07 grand final, while Trent West and newie, Dawson Simpson, leap frog Blake as 2nd & 3rd ruck choices - Cats trade Blake to St Kilda (Steven King plays 6 games in 08, is injured and gracefully retires) for Matt Maguire + 2nd round draft pick.

How exactly did you determine that Lonergan doesn't play with any heart? It is precisely because he DOES play with heart that he is now missing a kidney.

The 'Negative Nellies' are out early this year
Look mate as I’ve said before in this thread, it may be conceived about as being negative, however we all have to come to the realization that at least three players will be dropped at seasons end. It’s predicting upon the inevitable.

If you find it a little harsh, then don’t post within the thread; maybe the thread about the DVD box set or Tom Harley’s engagement is more entertaining. If not, then id love to see your predictions.

Soory to say this but. THIS IS A STUPID THREAD....
not stupid, reality is geelong wont be able to keep a few players after this year (if they do well) due to salary cap restrictions, which i believe is fair enough.

id say a couple of big names will go, ie kelly corey mackie enright woja or stokes. (not sure of their contract expiry, but if theyre part of the renewal bunch id say these guys)

they cant keep all the best players, unless they work underpaid, (scabs).

IMO i cant see these boys going.. i do know that mackie has another 2 years left on his contract.

And for corey.. i still find him to be a decent player

But i can see Kelly going..

This might be just a tad early, but what the hell, it's the off-season!

I'd have to put in some early plugs for S.Byrnes, D. Johnson and possibly T.Lonergan if he can't quite make the grade. I hope he does, though.

Blackjack is also one likely to be on the chopping block if he doesn't step up (Tenace).

wtf! Davers has just been promoted and Loners will be expected to show his worth but neither of these two will be dropped at the end of the year.

I just can't believe Davers has a target on him already?

I would be surprised if Davenport has more than a one year contract. As good as he could be he is still on the outer and if all of our stars decide they want to keep playing as a team and winning numerous premierships then the the blokes on the outskirts have to be killing it in the 2nds to be keppt on the list. I really want to see Davenport and Lonergan do well this year and hope they give the club no reason to think about de-listing them at seasons end, but who knows what will happen?
