Hell no @ Lake. We've got too many ageing defenders in about the same age bracket with LRT, Kennelly, Shaw, Mattner. Adding another will just cause us more harm when the inevitable change over occurs. It's better that we start blooding youngsters so it's a gradual turn over (Johnson's been awesome and is yet to put a foot wrong). Besides, between LRT, Grundy & Richards we should be able to cover most forward lines.

His price tag would hardly be worth it given our current circumstances & questions over his fitness. But in saying that, if he came to the swans I wouldn't have a problem with it, it'd mean we take a gun off the hands of our main competitors (Hawks/Blues). We're also one of the few clubs who could afford him, and he's versatile being able to play forward/back so we could do worse than him (especially if we make the top 4 this yr).

Slotted amazingly well into the team.

In my opinon our trade bait to date would be:
Currie- on outer more likely to ask for a trade than anything
Meredith- Played one game so far, combination of more game time and not delievering
Bevan- On the fringes but is versatile

White- If Horse does play him in a set position for a few rounds and it doesn't click then may be on the block

What we need:
Classy outside mid- We can get the ball out it's just delievery to forwards that lets us down

I still have a problem with our defence. I still think we need a tall, big (no, not the same) strong full back. Our tallest is LRT at 194cm. Grundy and Richards are 192cm and 193cm respectively. Compare that with Franklin at 196 cm, the new kid Vardy at the Cats stands 198cm and he looks good, so I still believe we are going to always struggle against teams with a strong tall forward. Even Jesse White, if he fails to come good at Sydney and finds his mojo at another club, could trouble us at 197cm. Maybe we could look at moving Mike Pyke back, at 200 cm not many would worry him. We do have a glut of ruckmen at present.

I'd love to get Matt De Boer from Freo over here to play as a medium, tackling forward, but he's a similar kind of player to Nick Smith and as important the the Dockers as Smith is to us. So I don't see him leaving.

Other players who I'd like to look at would be Travis Colyer from Essendon, Sam Blease from Melbourne and Ashton Hams from WCE. Small quick midfield/HF types. We have so many one paced, strong on ballers. Would be great to have a young HF buzzing about outside those bulls. I really like Colyer so would love him and Blease has heaps of wraps on him so they wouldn't be easy to get but I'd love to get one of those 2 in particular.

Here's what I think should go for in trade week and draft week:

Tall Defender
Outside midfielder with classy skills
Young ruckman (in draft)

I would kill to get Nat Fyfe to Sydney! :)

Jesse White = born again defender

A number of our best defenders started as forwards but struggled for consistency. At the very least he'd learn where and when to lead.

That means your saying Jetta is a failure

Certainly mobile, and big and strong. Franklin and others would be hard pushed to out body White. As you said, White could learn a lot in defence, see what works and what doesnt. Maybe he's better suited to punching the ball away as required most of the time in defence as opposed to being expected to take contested marks in the forward line. Would be interesting to see how he went.

So what your saying is that we should give up nothing and get back something really good - I like this strategy.

However, the reality is that for the most part the only players that are exchanged during the trade period are fringe players that aren't getting much opportunity at their current club (or arent any good).

To put in context, the 2 best midfielders to be traded last year were Sherman and Tambling.

Occassionally a player might come along who is above average, but this usually relies on the side he is going to having something to give up, e.g. a pick in the top 15 or an early pick in the preseason draft - we are unlikely to have either.

The only player you mention with any currency at all would be White (as you point out), A club like Melbourne may be so desperate for a big key forward that they might give us their first round pick ... but I doubt it.

I think given the players we have picked up in the draft of late, we are better just sticking with the draft.

Seriously? Given our history I would rather trade our first round pick at all costs

I think we should stick to our proven method and just send Bedford around with a suitcase full of cash, baseball bat and a blowtorch

Nope, just stating who we are most likely to be traded currently

I agree that it is rare to get an already established player however seeing our recent history with the likes of JPK, Mummy, Mcglynn etc we do pretty well.

What i'd like is for Sydney to get Tom Mitchell with lowest possible pick (kinda resigned to it being our first) and then go get gems in the draft ala johnson, reid, tdl.

White's highest value in trading atm would be a second pick but I'd prefer to see him stay at the club and be given time to be a FF

I haven't read the rest of this thread but has anyone considered that Brad Dick would be a player we should go after? He is sort of on the outer at Collingwood and i can't help but think that he would be a handy player to have in our forward line.

Shotties likes Dick

Brad Dick has just going in for his second knee reco and we don't need another soft player to go with Jetta.

>This< is the GWS pot of gold AKA draft concessions....starting up a new AFL club is a great gig if you can get it :thumbsu:

I'm quietly confident that the Swans have done their homework and are going to do very nicely over the next couple of draft/trade seasons courtesy of GWS :D
