Why would we do that deal, Lake is not a forward, has injury concerns, is near the end of his career, is contracted and would need to be released and he isnt the difference between a flag and fifth.

The only ways i could see truth in this rumor would be if he is part of a three way deal with Hawthorne who desperstley need a big fullback or we draft Fev.

What is needed to compliment that is a good lead out forward. Someone who can ensure to drag his man away from any of Reids contests and provide a viable second option. This will allow Reid to flourish with more one on one contests as well as contributing their share of goals.

Who on our list is set to be a lead out forward 2013. Goodes, maybe but looking aside from a player I would still like to have runs in the middle their is Johnston who aside from his lovely kick is yet to prove his ability to get his hands on the ball. White, big question marks over his engine to repeatedly lead and do so on more than one occasion in the same forward thrust. Gordon has apparently also being playing this role in the reserves but again his two senior games he struggled to cope with the speed of play.

If there is a forward option available, particularly one with a natural leading nous I expect the club to try getting him to the SCG a serious shake.

We actually have one, but other areas of his game have proven deficient and he hasn't got a reasonable chance, TDL.

Contrary to the popular conception, usually from those who have seen SFA of him play, his game revolves around leading up, taking grabs and good conversion. He may be built like a small front and square forward, but he has proven much better in the 2's as a go to forward, admittedly under far less pressure than he would have competing in the seniors.

Think Mark Williams (Haw/Ess), Monfries, Ebert (PA) type forward, not tall or particularly big bodied (bar Ebert), but good on the lead nonetheless...

I agree everytime i have seen TDL play he has played well and given the forward line some structure he has kicked goals in the ressies don't know why he hasn't played more senior footy this year. I dont buy this crap that he dosn't pressure or tackle

I would like you to expand on this sentence please.

Reid was double teamed against the Hawks, a fair effort for any footballer let alone a teenager to handle. The young man has a great set of hands and is developing a strong body for the contested mark.

"I think that if White doesn't fire next year, the Swans will tie up Reid and spend what ever loose coin they have on someone to take Whites place." (a lead out forward for 2013 and beyond)

Totally hypothetical situation would you prefer Dawes, Johnston and a 2nd tier tall forward to make up our forward line in 2013 or Ried, Johnston and a 3rd tier tall forward? Those are probably the worst case scenarios for the tall in our forward line 2013 onwards (assuming we land Dawes).

I can honestly see where you're coming from and I would totally agree if GWS only had this year to sign players. Say the Swans land Dawes this year his pay would not be exceptional but it would be enough to take away from the money left to resign other players including Reid because GWS WILL make a play for the Reids and WILL work their way down our list once Reid is tied up looking for a player we can’t afford due to cap space so we don't want to have "just enough" to keep him and others, we want to have as much as we can so we can keep everyone happy.

The other thing is I feel that the list has one more year of development left in it before we can confirm where our weaknesses will be across the ground with absolute certainty. In my opinion the Swans forward line is still somewhat of an enigma I honestly think it could be the best in the competition even with its current players (given time + Johnston & Lamb) but it could still end up mediocre like it was this year.

It’s just too early to make a long term call on it and the players who are a part of it until the end of 2012.

Just for this year though, if Dawes came up next year after our list was resigned I’d be all for it (if we could still afford him)!

What also must be remembered when discussing any trade with Lake is the last contract, he agreed with the dogs was as an elite player in the competition with the salary to boot. This contract has at least two years to run.

He would have been on similar coin to Cooney so he would come in as a very expensive player. With it being highly questionable he could return to the form that pushed the Dogs to the brink of September it's a huge amount of money for a high risk strategy. The clubs not ready to repeat the Bradshaw story just yet.

I'd hope Sumner + 4th Round Pick might be doable. I'm not sure how much more we'd want to give up. Armstrong could turn out alright, but could also completely dud it up.

Thats if Mals still there

I think we need to learn the art of trading talented players that have seen their best due to injury, that may have a shortened career because of it.

I know at the time we lost Jolly to the Pies, it hurt & he has given them valuable service & a flag, but if he stayed with us he would have lost trade value & perhaps only a short time to go in the game because even with us he was showing signs of wear & tear on his knees

He looked very sore last night. He's been good for them but he can't play every game in a season any more. I'd go as far as saying he has only 1 year (2 years max) left in him. I think that was a win/win trade as we now have Mumford.

So I'm thinking that maybe Malceski might be in the same boat. He has great trade value to a team that is close to a p'ship & needs some polish or even GWS that need some quality experience. Mal would get a heap more money at GWS & assured more senior game time where as with us, he struggled a bit near the end.........................perhaps due to injury.

Is Grundy also now a value trade in order to get something else we need of more importance? LRT signed a new contract & he is staying. Lewis Johnston can hold down a key back position if need be & can kick a mile with accuracy which can break teams presses.
Interesting weeks ahead.

I'm expecting to lose/trade a player we wouldn't normally expect to lose, in the next few weeks, because it's the only way to get near & ahead of the top three teams of the comp.

Just my thoughts.

I think Mal & Grundy are expendable. I'm a bigger fan of Mal, but apart from showing alot of promise in 2007 and having a stellar 2010, he's spent alot of time coming back from injury, being down on form/confidence. 2 good years in the 7 he's been with us, is that enough of a return? When he's up, there's not doubt he's quality, but will he be able to remain relatively injury free over the next 4-5 years. I have serious doubts, another injury and it's close to career over. If we can get something decent for him, it's time to let him go.
