Early winners and losers of trade period / free agency

The adelaide crow-nies still bitter about Gibbs it seems. While we've moved on they still love to play the victim card.

Newsflash Adelaide: Blame the camp, not the trade.

There certainly are a few Crows posters who seem to harbour a resentment towards SOS. Drives them to say some awfully stupid s**t sometimes.

Western Bulldogs - Another team that didn't improve and lost gun players
Garbage. Dahlhaus was a solid player, hasnt resembled a "gun" for a couple of years now. Not sure he ever has. Capable tackling foot soldier would be more apt.

Roughead was past his use-by-date in our 22. Adams was permanently injured as Brisbane will find out shortly. No loss there.

I'll concede we didnt improve, though Lloyd and Duryea will be handy.

Dahlhaus used to be a gun, no denying that. Reckon he will find a new flame at Geelong and start producing some good footy again (sad for us).

Hard not to agree with the rest of your post.

A lot of the Doggies players had a purple patch during the Premiership season, and for whatever reason since have dropped off or struggled to stay healthy.

I don't think Dahl is that big a loss at all. The talent that has come through since looks great, very bullish on the doggies (excuse the pun).

Brisbane did ok adding Neale, Adams and McCarthy. Beams was going home in two years anyway so two first rounders for him was worth doing in the end.

Fremantle added Hogan and Rory Lobb and took advantage of Port paying overs to rise up draft order.
Did ok after shaky start to trade period looking like clowns saying out of Hogan race. Lost Neale but long term needed Hogan and Lobb more.

Gold Coast set themselves up for re-build from almost scratch with really good draft hand and complimented with lots of mature aged hungry footballers going up there to nurture the young talent already there or going there soon. Made most of horrible situation with captains going.

Richmond got Lynch without needing to do anything else of note. Lost a little depth but gained with gun tall forward.

Saints biggest losers. Got nothing and needed plenty. Will have to make most of pick 4 at draft to progress this club forward.

Overall though more a period about players changing clubs than clubs themselves making any great strides.

If pushed to give a club the winner of period Dockers the surprising winners. The needed a gun key forward and got one for many years to come and got another talented tall to compliment forward half and ruck division. If failed to take advantage to gain Hogan that would have been massive fail.

God i hope we pump them next season. As reigning premiers im sure we will :thumbsu:
Not in Geelong. Last time you won there was well over a decade ago. And let's face it, you only beat Geelong in Perth this year when Ablett, Guthrie and Cockatoo went down injured in quick succession

Rubbish.

We got some intel that the club was putting a big offer to Shiel, which naturally caused some excitement, but it's overzealous to suggest we pegged it as a certainty.

The majority of supporters (like most) thought he'd end up at Hawthorn.
Actually the Giants board had him at the Blues stronger than your trade thread.

I actually think Port didn't do too bad. They were always going to lose Polec (overrated frontrunner) and Pittard is crap. Yes they lose Wingard but they go into the draft at this stage with 3 1st rnd picks and pick 5 will be used on one of the SA kids so should be a 10 year player.

After getting mature aged players like Watts, Motlop and Rockliffe last year they needed some good youth coming in. Comes down to their drafting now.

Beams to collingwood seems like a winner. Adds depth and class and ball winning to an already deep midfield.
The only question is whether anyone at the club who have come through at the same time harbours any feeling that he left the club, and now wants to come back cause the team is a premiership threat.

I think Hawks won, again.

However how could anyone on their list be comfortable and not think Clarko will trade them at the first opportunity to land a bigger fish? Will be interesting what it does for their culture.
Very true, but who gives a s**t if we just keep on winning Flags?

Yes. Except the fact that his dad was sick and died is probably enough legitimacy to quell any ill-harboured feelings.

Geelong are the biggest losers both list wise and football ethics-wise

Fancy fighting tooth and nail to bring Ablett back home, calling out GCS for not being so willing......
Yet when the shoe is on the other foot, being heartless to the Kelly family.

Disgraceful.

Cats had every right to hold on to him. Gave him a chance as a mature ager when he'd missed the boat and signed a 2 year deal knowing the WA lure for wife and family. You sign that first agreement you're signing on to stick the two years out. If it wasn't for the Cats no one would be offering him good coin with a chance to forge a lucrative career.

Good on 'em.
