Sounds like Strnadica is looking a monty to sign on with WCE....obviously too early to count those chickens, but great opportunity for the youngster....well deserved after his time at Freo....or lack of it.....rubbish for EF but apparently there is an experienced ruckman in the mix....just nothing definite till WCE make a decision.....which they probably won't till Feb time.....seriously how long does it take to finalize an AFL list?'...haven't these clubs got staff getting paid to do this stuff?....you either need a ruckman or you don't.....
Totally agree Freeze.
After the afl draft in November that should be it no more poaching of WAFL, SANFL players pre season, mid season etc.
If you get an injury too bad that is football!
All it shows is that these clubs have no faith in their own recruiting staff!

Very true mate.....WCE need a ruckman, yet only invite one to train on for the preseason, with two spots up for grabs...and only two players invited, the other a mid....not rocket science TBH......reckon come the NY as each month goes by, the club losing the player should get a decent fee.....goes up each month till a decision made..no fee pre NY, ..20K in Jan, 40K in Feb.....might see a few decisions reached quicker.....that's footy if he signs for WCE and then gets injured.......As it is footy EF losing their number 1 ruck late preseason apparently in WCE eyes.....

East Freo can just plan for life without Strnadica now though, doesn't really affect much, if they know they are losing him then its fine, just move on.

Then in 2 months time it can be a bonus for him to come back if it happens

EF apparently are in talks with an experienced quality ruck, but he won't commit till WCE decide on Strnadica.....can't blame him for not signing, especially if Strnadica is the number 1 ruck at EF and a possibility that he may return before the season starts....there in lies the problem....EF can't commit to any ruck replacement till WCE say so.....

WCE Williams that they are getting games into & Jamieson, 200cm/21/drafted 2019, next one up.

Is EF expecting Josh Cripps back?

Probably not, can see him staying with his big brother this year and playing VFL, if he misses out on that Carlton spot. Though may still come home....who knows TBH

Browne apparently being loaned out for 12 months to WCER by EF.....not a bad idea, the midfield is probably EF strongest area, so not sure how much impact / game time young Browne would of had / got. One way of getting 20 games of WAFL league into him this year, gives him a chance to show WCE what he has, and even if he gets knocked back in 2022 draft time, he comes back to EF hopefully a physically/mentally stronger footballer...replacing an Eardley or Boekhorst who may decide to retire.

West Coast rookie hopeful Luke Strnadica will be sidelined for at least the next fortnight after sustaining a foot injury at training.

The West Australian understands the giant East Fremantle ruck-forward suffered a partial tear in his plantar fascia during a recent Eagles match simulation session at Mineral Resources Park.

Strnadica is currently in a moon boot, with his injury timeline to be reassessed in a couple of weeks.

Definitely a disappointing road block for the young fella.....obviously disappointing from an EF perspective if Strnadica got a WCE gig.....but definitely a well deserved one. Think WCE will reassess in a fortnight and go from there.....

Not much on the news front from the club of late....few names off EF playing list in Bockman(moved to Broome for work) and looks likeJesse Crichton has had a change of heart and given up on his WAFL return...also young Josh Browne still looks WCER bound....losing Strnadica and Joyce(if selected) late in the pre season will definitely hurt EF playing depth.....also not sure the status quo on those 3 E.S boys MacDonald, Medland and Williamson with WA borders not reopening Feb 5th as planned.

Think WCE are trialling everyone now, Joyce completes his train on block this week, though has an injury at present, so ended earlier then expected. Dixon will be doing well to grab one of those spots....only has a 4 week block to show his worth......Strnadica is the only train on who has had more then a 4 week block....gotta be a cert to be signed surely

A WAFL and WAFLW match have been confirmed to be played on the last weekend of April in Northampton, a town steeped in football history. The double-header in the Mid-West town will provide a huge boost for the local community following the devastation caused by Tropical Cyclone Seroja.

In the WAFL, East Fremantle will host East Perth and in WAFLW East Fremantle will host Claremont.

West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) Chief Executive Officer Michael Roberts says the weekend will be a resounding success. “We know how resilient Northampton residents have been over the past twelve months, and the town’s reputation for producing champion footballers over several decades is second to none. Being part of East Fremantle’s zone, we believe bringing the games to Northampton will inspire the next generation of aspiring stars”.

The WAFC is partnering with the AFL Rams Community Support Fund for this special weekend.

Rams Founder and former AFL player Andrew Lockyer came up with the proposal.

“The plan is to help lift the spirits of locals who are still doing it tough. If we can take their minds off the challenges they face for a couple of days and raise some much-needed funds then we will have achieved our goals”, Lockyer said.

Sentiments echoed by Northampton Shire Chief Executive Garry Keeffe “we’re hoping to draw a crowd of more than one thousand spectators.

It’s not often we get to host quality sport, and the benefits will be felt across the region, not just Northampton. It could lead to more of these types of events in the future” Keeffe said.

The weekend will be a Festival of Footy including School Clinics, Talent Squad Training, Football Forum and Coaching session, Umpire Education and Auskick matches over the two days.

A local GNFL game will also be played prior to the WAFLW match.

The WAFC acknowledges the generous support provided by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Shire of Northampton, Great Northern Football League, the WA Country Football League and the competing clubs

Victorian recruits Jackson McDonald, Matthew Williamson and Sam Medland arrived into Perth this week. To pass the time while in quarantine, the 3 players reflected on their journey to get into WA.

We first spoke to the club towards the backend of 2021 and the journey to get to this stage has certainly had its ups and downs. We all arrived into WA this week to the news that quarantine has been cut to 7 days- which has been a rare moment of good news in our adventure. That was balanced out by Jacksons luggage getting lost on the flight over.

We certainly didn’t anticipate our move into WA to be so difficult. We initially planned to arrive into Perth before the start of pre-season in late November but once the borders closed, it was a waiting game.

We were lucky that we were able to train with our clubs in Victoria pre-Xmas, Jackson at Coburg, Matt at Essendon VFL and Sam with Aberfeldie. We certainly appreciate the support those clubs gave us.

Great to see the commitment from all 3 players and the club in getting them over for the 2022 WAFL season....hope all 3 fellas enjoy their footy and have strong seasons

Why have a national league if you are going to shut down the borders forever? if you want to shut down the borders forever, go the whole way - withdraw all WA-based clubs from AFL, put them both into the WAFL, declare independence for WA and rechristen the WAFL as a national league.

The WAFL will crackdown on holding the ball interpretations this season, along with applying stricter penalties for delay of game tactics by players for both WAFL and WAFLW competitions.

WAFL and WAFLW Umpiring Operations Manager Dean Margetts points out these are not new laws, more an alignment as to how the rules should be officiated.

“This season umpires will be less lenient on players who’ve had prior opportunity and don’t immediately and correctly dispose of the football.

The stricter holding the ball interpretation includes a focus on players ducking into tackles, with clubs warned that anyone who ducks their head prior to being legally tackled will be penalised more stringently,” Margetts said.

The former AFL umpire says the WAFL is also set to place more scrutiny on delaying tactics this season.

“Clubs have been told that umpires will be less lenient towards players who deliberately delay play after free kicks or 50 metre penalties.

Players will no longer be given a warning before being penalised for delaying play, with umpires instructed to punish conduct which impedes, or delays play,” Margetts said.

As in previous seasons, the WAFC Umpiring Team will assist players with the new interpretations as part of the annual club visit program before the start of the 2022 season.

The tightening of the existing rules comes after the AFL identified trends in the way the game was being played and umpired at the top level.

The WAFL, where possible, aims to align with the AFL when it comes to law amendments and interpretational changes.

With the entire squad coming back in ripping nick, we hit the ground running with our pre-season for the 2022 season. The pre-Christmas block of training was the best I have seen since being part of the club, in regard to our intensity and skill level.

On top of high training standards, I believe the players are reaching new levels with their enjoyment and buy in to the program, I think Juppy will back me up in saying I have never seen so many players doing extras off their own back to better themselves. This has been a focus for the past few seasons.

Having a crop of fresh faces come up from the Colts has been exciting. We have integrated them into our system and the young boys are doing well with their first taste of senior football.

Wrapping up our first block of training we had a sausage sizzle with the entire women’s and men’s team. This was a great way to send off the year and consolidate our one club approach.

Coming back from our break we have picked up where we left off and trained with real intensity from the get-go. The squad has managed to do this without some of our more experienced heads on the track with the likes of Matthew Jupp, Josh Schoenfield, Cody Leggett and Cam Eardley building their way back nicely. This has allowed some new faces to step up into a leadership role with Tom Bennett, Kyle Baskerville and Finn Gorringe being three noticeable standouts in that area.

There have been some real standouts on the track. Our silky half back, Jaime Meade, still hasn’t said a word all pre-season but has been carving up with his skills and speed. Cody Smith is doing his best, Mark Blicavs impression by being a 98kg wingman and one of our fittest players. Milan Murdoch is pretty much training like the energiser bunny with a fresh set of batteries every session. When we manage to get Brynn Teakle away from a mirror he has trained extremely well. I still help Durak Tucker tie his boots up but after that no one has been able to lay a finger on him. Alex Montauban has been training strong. Ethan Paholski decided to bring his own broom to training and so far has cleaned up four people and when Chris Walker arrives to the right venue his training has been electric.

All In all, our training to date has been red hot. Collectively as players, coaches, and staff we are extremely focused on improvement and very excited to see what the 2022 season has in store for us. Bring on the 2022 season.

Good to see the club finally put up a pre-season report.....great to hear the players are hitting the ground well n truly running....be interested to see how the three E.S boys go when their home iso period finishes.. also whether Joyce, Dixon and Strnadica will be wearing EF jumpers or WCE jumpers.

Looks like Strnadica, Joyce and Dixon are the remaining train ons at WCE now....with all those WCE injuries, looks like WCE will go bang bang bang.....hopefully WCE injury list remains high and all three boys play AFL instead of WAFL for WCE.....amazing to think if all 3 get the nod, EF loses 3 important players within 4-5 weeks of the WAFL season, with no chance of finding similar quality replacements.....not even a penny for losing them either.....
