The Eagles aligned side East Perth Royals have absolutely humbled the current ladder leaders by 10 Goals. In a game that saw the lead change quite often in the first 3 quarters, the Royals piled on 10 goals in the final term to take their 3/4 time lead of 11 points to a 10 goal margin. David Haynes excelled, booting 5 majors, along with 4 from Buszan. Jeremy Humm played a fairly consistent and productive game, while Ryan Turnball played well in the Ruck, and up forward. From a claremont perspective Jaxon Crabb played a good game, and Nick Stone was good in defense for 3 quarters, remarkebly both being ex Eagle rejects. Loo Loo got the ball a bot, but didn't do much with it. A great game to watch.

Ok, enough of the Journalism, that was a good game to watch. David Haynes really did play well, and Buszan continued with his good form. I really do think we should give him a game this year to see how he goes at AFL level, but I am quite sure he will go well.

Over the past 2 days I have been thinking about our future team, and from the players we currently have on the list, here we go

Phil Matera Dean Buszan Kasey Green
David Haynes Travis Gaspar Andrew Embley
Chad Fletcher Jeremy Humm Rowan Jones
Andrew Williams Darren Glass Michael Collica
David Wirrapunda Trent Carroll Phil Read

Michael Gardiner Ben Cousins Daniel Kerr

Callum Chambers, Dean Cox, Kane Munro, Adam Hunter

Emergency David Antonowicz

Now of course not all these players will stillbe here, some may be traded or delisted, but basicly thats not a bad future team, not bad at all!

Damn!
I think I'll put this down to 'we needed another loss' or 'it's good for a team to lose 1 (or 2!) during the season......' ;)

Not a bad team at all eagleskickass. Whether it would cut it in the AFL, I'm not so sure. And there's a lot to be said for some experience, so I hope we can retain some of the Jakovich, Matera, Sierakowski, Prior-type group of players as you can't only rely on youth.

I would also be interested to know (and there's no way of doing this) how the players in that team would match up against other AFL young players in two key areas - pace and hardness. We've seemed a little slow compared to the competition in my view this year.

you've missed our number one draft pick from last year eka, McDougall.

Yes the game was very good today though at one stage in the 3rd qrt I thought that Claremont may run away. Haynes was superb, Buszan played well, Humm was consistent and what about that kick for goal by Turnball?! Antonowicz was also quite good down back and you would hope he comes good as a 195 cm defender is a good asset. Did I miss anyone? Nope, don't think so. I can't believe the leading goal kicker is under six foot, looked like a cheeky bugger too. Great game to watch though, especially the last 10 goal qrt.

Haynes and Buszan looked excellent.

Medhurst may be a good draft pick.

Lewie disgraced himself with a moonie to the crowd.

I didn't get to see the game today, but from what I have seen so far this year, I agree with you on Medhurst. He has been quite impressive and is only 19(?) I think. This is only his 2nd season with Claremont, but I don't think he played more than 1-2 last year. He seems to regularly get 3-4 and from memory has had a 7 & an 8. The fact that he is from WA, and there hasn't been alot of talk about him being drafted with other clubs makes him a good target for us.

Lewie - What the hell?? :(

Good game-great last quarter, my best player was David Haynes playing at CHF-the role he has played a number of times this year. Another player who improves each week is Luke Webster and at 19 could be a player to follow on the draft front.
Antonowicz played a good game, what I liked about it was the fact he could play in defence or as a forward.
Humm was good and Buszan continues to improve each week.
On Medhurst he kicked 4-5 but was beaten for most of the day by Marley but if you kick 5 goals then you have had a good game.

David Haynes had an excellent game - I'm really hoping Judgey gives him at least 2 or 3 full games (thats right, don't "play" him on the bench) playing him on the half forward flank - he's a goalkicker and I dont think he is suited to the backline.

I knew someone would point this out. I didn't forget him, I just haven't seen him play, or heard much about him, so I left him out of the squad, but he may very well be a future club champion, I don't know.

VOR, as I said in my post, that could be our FUTURE team, as in in 4-5 years time, I am sure it will definately change, but then we won't have the Jako's etc, as they will have retired.

I am having growing soft spot for East Pert. I have gone for Subiaco so far in my life, but haven't actually supported a WAFL team, as I live 400kms away, and there isn't much I could do otherwise. I know when I move to Perth I will support a team, and it might just be the Royals, and I currently play for the Albany Royals (Michael Gardiners old side). I guess I will always like Subi too though

Does anyone know how our other recruits went today? McDougall, McCarrey, Cummings (!), Kris Miller, Zac Beeck with the EastPerth reserves... I'll try and find out the details in the Tunday Slimes tomorrow.

Not a bad future team but i still beg the question as to why play Williams in defence? I think he could possibly be the best mark in our team, he is really strong and takes a great overhead contested mark. In defence its punch first mark later, i think we waste his best quality.

No room for Wooden?

At the moment, no, He hasn't been in form for long enough. If he continues with his current form then he will be in our future side. He has been out of form for too long before to get an automatic mention for me, but he is beginning to grow on me. (do't take that literally:D :D )

Didn't forget Morrison, in my view he isn't part of the Eagles future best team. On Wooden, he played well in todays game, and would definately push for selection, maybe instead of Fletcher?
But, it is still not a bad side, 16 of which played today amazingly

How can you say that? He has played well, and except for this one bad season(this season  ) i would say he's among our better players on the list. Sure he's no Cousins or Wirrpunda, but his versatility is rare.

Its just my opinion. I know he has been good for us, but I think our young talent coming through will take his spot. If he hadn't done his knee he probably would have been traded. But now he will be kept i would say. Believe me, I hope he makes me eat my words, but I don't think he will, especially after this knee recon.

What about Braun, his future is a bit clouded with all the new players coming through. Will he be traded at the end of the year? His injury problems surely are a worry to the Eagles selectors?

I have been told that Andrew McDougall was quite impressive for Perth.

Scotty Cummings had a dog of a game for Swans. He needs to work his way back to full fitness and confidence.

GO EAGLES!

EKA - Morrison is an absolute star and i rate him in the top 5 players on our list. I hope he fully recovers from his recon and back to his best for when he is on song he a very good footballer.
