I have literally seen next to nothing of Maginness.

He sounds like he has no trouble finding the ball, does he do anything with it? What kind of a player is he exactly? Has pace... good kick?
Inside/ outside type who covers the ground quickly and knows how to find the ball. Not a super strong clearance player but certainly stronger than Gaff and his defensive game needs some work.

Ball use is up and down, it was the reason why he wasn't drafted in the ND. He's dangerous around goals though.

Would be a crime if Maggie had to start in the reserves after cementing his place in the seniors last season.
A update. I did some searching and there is no rule regarding the number of East Perth players required. Fremantle played 17 players at Peel last season.

On the body of form Karpany and Maginness should both easily start at League. Maginness has however been set back with his leg, so we'll see how he closes out the preseason.

A bit radical but I would create an new Eagles team and rename Peel as The Dockers (Peel have been an under-performing organisation in the WAFL for too long). The teams would be stand alone and owned and financed by their AFL team. That would bring it to an even 10 teams in the WAFL and eradicate the bye.

We could then debate the integrity of the WAFL and decide as to whether the Eagles and Dockers teams are allowed to be plating in the finals or excluded from the finals. Good points both ways.
The obvious and best solution as Peel as no history and East Perth were already established and successful. I do feel for EP supporters as they no longer have their club while the Eagles were disadvantaged in trying to play their many taller players while EP good talls like Smith and Johnson made this difficult and resulted in 2 losses in GF;s due to too many talls in wet weather.

East Perth lost both grand finals because they lacked "ticker", the Munchers & Subi had the required "ticker".

I wouldn't weep for them too much, they pretty much get a free ride in the WAFL finals with the amount of Eagles players that come back so they reap the rewards of the alignment.

Subi beat East Perth in both regular season games, dominated them with bigger bodied mids. Nothing to do with "ticker" on the day, Subi were the better team all year.

East Perth will battle to make the finals this year. Might scrape into the new extended top 5. All their top players stayed but they lost all their depth. Will lose their top players next year and then will be down with Peel after that. AFL players in WAFL teams are over rated by WAFL people. Most are more of a hinderance than any help.

The two AFL stand alone clubs are coming, the WAFC is just waiting for two clubs to merge or a club to fall over. Only 2 or 3 clubs are financially secure.

It'll be an interesting one, because both standalone teams will need more players than WCE & Freo are permitted to have on their lists. Would surely lead to the haves and have nots, like with NFL practice squads - Would "WAFL" WCE for example sign 20-odd players on low (WAFL standard) contracts, on the basis that even if they carve it up, they would be ineligible to be upgraded to AFL, and WCE would need to vie for them in the draft/rookie draft next year?

How about this, i haven't thought it through, just throwing it in the conversation.
Get rid of the Rookie List and extend the Primary List to 50 players. To account for the extra players make the Salary Cap about 12.5 million. Instead of playing AFL reserved clubs in state leagues have a national competition of AFL reserves. But one of the problems i see with this idea is the financial costs of it all.

I like the idea of making AFL more costly, because that would hopefully result in most of the dud Victorian clubs going bust.

Yes even my Norf!

They do that with the VFL clubs in melbourne. I know a few guys that when they went across they were told they probably wouldn't play too many games and they nominate a metro league club for when they aren't playing AFL. The only problem is that playing metro league in Victoria allows you to get paid where as amateurs here isn't allowed. You could offer positions to brothers of players if they are half decent to move across to Perth and help them settle in.
