Tomorrow the East Side Phoenix celebrate:
Zoops
100 SFA Games

A young Zoops joined the East Side Phawks back in S31, just before the SFA world imploded over Something That Must Not Be Named. His first match was against the formidable Roys, and his first post in the thread on Page 7 showed he already knew the drill:

Playing on the HBF in MUDDY conditions (seriously Sim, GAGF) meant he didn't see a lot of the ball. His first touch was in fact a fist, and yet somehow he managed to get a hold of the ball and pass smoothly to ex-Phawk eth-dog.

This play then lead to a goal by Itsmyshow approximately 5 minutes later.

At the end of the game, he and his opponent WaywardSonSon were well-matched:

  • In a comparatively small-fry arm wrestle, WaywardSonSon and Zoops were well-matched - there was no victor. - 75m from 5 to 80.

No I'm not going to mourn over what a sexy team it was back then, no, no no... don't look back Porps, only look FORWARD!

But despite the loss, it seemed like that this was a place he wanted to be a part of:

Zoops went on to play in 49 wins, 49 losses, and 1 draw, moonlighting in a variety of on-field positions.

His best DreamTeam effort was in S33 where he racked up 1478 points, and he was the winner of club award The Filth Medal in S31, for best new player as judged by the LG.

Apart from a snazzy name, Zoops is probably best-known for his graphic design skills. He is the one responsible for our beautiful Phoenix logo, and the updated guernseys in our home and away kit:

Some may say that it was wrong to get a rookie involved in a re-brand, however we stand by him 100%. After all, if you have the resources, why not use them?! That's what the Bombers did when they started siphoning oil out of the Baghdadi Desert to fuel their opium factories.

Also, Zoops created an amazing Reverse Retro guernsey series for that fantasy QAFL league and the Qadelaide Qrows may have taken his design for their Gather round strip... with payment under the table, we think... but we don't know the details ;)

Maybe you know him, maybe you don't, but soon enough you'll see him zooping and swooping around you as he grabs the ball from right under your nose, so watch out...

Congratulations on 100 games Zoops!

It’s not a factory.

We prefer to use the word “apothecary” thanks.

Anyway, happy 100th Zoops !
