I didn't actually realise how bad it is until i looked the other day, but its awful out East at the moment.
Washington are .500 and currently sitting in 3rd place.

There is 12 teams .500 or better in the West, 3 in the East.

Does this easy ride that Miami / Indy will get through the playoffs make a differnce come finals time when they run into a weary Spurs, Thunder?

That's one way of looking at it, but I dunno if it always works out that way.

The Lakers used to coast through the West playoff bracket during the 1980s, but I'm not sure it ever conclusively worked to their advantage during the Finals.

If Miami and Indy square off in the ECF again this year it will essentially be a repeat of last season's playoffs. The Spurs got a free ride through rounds 1 & 3 in the West, so I guess one could argue that they were just as well rested as the Heat. Hopefully Indy and Miami stay neck and neck for the No. 1 seed for most of the season, to prevent a total washout.

San Antonio's minutes distribution is masterful, even at this early juncture of the season - none of their players are playing remotely heavy minutes, not even Leonard.

It will be interesting to see how many mid-season trades get made over the next few months. There is a lot of potential for contending teams to add to their depth as the tankers begin to position themselves.

Doesn't help when the Easts best teams are crippled.

I'd take a healthy Miami, Indiana and Chicago over every team in the West except San Antonio and Oklahoma which would be a toss up.

Thats only three teams though. Where is it after that? I'd then take GSW, LAC, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Portland over the next best team in the West. Which i cant name because they are all pretty average.

If the playoffs were to work at the "best 16" rather then 8 west and 8 east i'd say there would be possibly be at least 11 and maybe even 12 from West.

This is how ridiculous i think it it at the moment, i'm predicting Brooklyn to get healthy at some point and get a 5-6 seed and make the second round.

if westy team win the championship its because of the hard, tough games theyve played

if easty team wins, its due to the rest and easier run

It looks a lot worse this year because a lot of the teams are "Riggin for Wiggins".

Brooklyn have a good roster but for whatever reason decided to risk their title run on a rookie head coach, remember Miami looked pretty pedestrian early on in their first season.

Why did I just get an alert for a nine year old thread?

:drunk:

To discuss the east/west

I like the look of the magic and pistons rebuild. Should add some talent the next couple years with cap space.

Ready a decent looking amount of talent - Carter. Cole. Wagner. Bamba. Issac. Fultz. Suggs. Hampton. Okeke.

Cade. Bey. Diallo. Stewart. Lee. Hayes... Grant looks quality too

To discuss the east/west

What does a discussion from nearly a DECADE ago have to do with the NBA in 2021/22?

You may as well dig up a newspaper article from 1986 talking about conference disparity.

Saves making a new one.

Personally I'm not surprised by the bulls they have a very nice looking roster imho.

You don't need to make one. It doesn't need its own thread, full stop.

Situations are fluid. The fact that the East is strong this season doesn't mean that there hasn't been conference disparity in the recent past.

It's like making a thread in 1946 saying that Germany is a nice place to visit. Doesn't mean it was a nice place to visit in the 1930s and 40s.

I do find it an interesting discussion. Generally the east looks even and strong at the top.

The nets showed again yesterday how good they are.

Pretty crazy team on paper and by far the best team when fit(?) Maybe ever? The now have gelled with good chemistry

If they get Harris back the spacing will be bonkers and the bigs look decent with claxton getting better. Aldridge. Griffin. Sharpe

So put a question in the weekly thread.

Something like "how strong do people think the East is this season? Are they convinced by Charlotte, Chicago, etc yet? Who do they see in the ECF?"

Resuscitating a nine year old, virtually unrelated thread is just a poor attempt at trolling.

Why anyone would make proclamations based on one game sample sizes, in THIS season of all seasons... is beyond me.

That's a good point. You could have said that instead of carrying on about the war.

It was only one game but it was one of the few kd. Harden. Irving played together and its a good test against a strong bulls.

It's pretty obvious the nets are a corking team and Harris would make them very hard to match up on with his shooting.

As a neutral you'd love to see them get fit like the warriors a couple years ago kinda fun watching a superteam

The irony throwing Simmons under the bus the sixers likely first in east (again) if he wasn't sitting.

Simmons makes Harris better with his play making and taking pressure off generally.

Curry is a very elite shooter and the development of maxey + Simmons would be very handy.

Drummond is a very decent back up.

The 3 is a bit of a problem but korkmaz / Thybulle is a good mix of attack and d.

Niang would be good with Simmons and green is handy
