Eating Out

well it is the off season and I remember a little thread that started some good discussion last year about where is good to eat out in Adelaide.

So I thought I might start off where a group of us are having our christmas dinner and I wondered where everyone else recommends as a good place to eat.

For me:
Enotecca Cucina on Carrington st in the city. The deserts are to die for! I am so looking forward to eating there next week, I think I will just have and entree and then desert.... Last time I had to leave have my main just so that I could fit the lavender panacotta in. Yum.

Refurbished Hilton Hotel - the restaurant there has great food, the service from a couple of the younger waitresses was a little slack but the others were good.

Vietnam Village, Thebarton - best vietnamese in the state.

For Vietnamese I LOVE Vietnam. 73 Addison Rd in Pennington. Out in the bronx but damn its good. The make your own Cold Rolls, the BBQ Quail and the hot pots are to die for. Will definately have to check out Viet Village.

My favourite place at the moment, is Cianti Classico on Hutt St. Its an old favourite. I love my Italian and they do it superbly. They have a fantastic wine list, their staff are close to the most knowledgable ive come across and are friendly and they do wonderful food. Their pasta is excellent.

For more special evenings I like Auge. Been there a couple of times and although it hits the pocket a bit, its definately worth it.

If anyones into wine and going to wineries then D'arenberg is a well known favourite...but also check out Skillagalee in the Clare Valley. A lovely family owned winery where the wife is also head chef. Very nice meals. Have a sip of their Riesling whilst sitting outside over looking the contoured vineyard. Great stuff!

You need to book for the Vietnam Village Macca - there is no way you can rock up and expect to get in, especially on a Saturday night.

It's also great for a pre-show dinner if you are going to the Ent centre before hand.

I'm just annoyed that I live too far away from it to take advantage of their takeaway.

Nothing better than a good seafood and the best seafood restaurant in Sammys down at the Marina.

Don't mind "The Blanc" on Hutt St either. Great seefood grill there

Cant go past the good old KFC

On a serious note, Louisiana Tavern at Elizabeth is very nice. Meals are of a good size, reasonably priced, in a very up market establishment (for Elizabeth). And unlike Aqcua just across from it, they do not charge an extra $2.50 for a spoon of gravy. The waitresses always tell me most people cant finsh their 17.90 mega schnitzel....ive yet failed to finish one.

for anyone that likes greek food, i suggest you get down to estia restaurant down henley way.. has the most amazingly nice meals. you can order platters of foods and share them with your friends on the table.. me n my gf ordered 3 platters of lamb, octopus and quail, topped off with a greek salad and dips and pita bread for entree and it was easily the best restaurant meal that ive ever had

Yeah the Cafe Primo anit too bad been to the one on Anzac Hwy and also in Norwood.

Like stiffy said Sammy's down at the marina is darn good

Agreed, also on a side night, the bread on their menu is entitled "Coopers Sparkling Ale." That one always brings up a wry smile!

Platia, a Greek restaurant on Magill Rd. is always worth checking out, not just for the amazing array of delicious meat, but for the high likelihood of spotting Nathan Basset, who as far as I can tell lives at the place.

I always take potential missus' to Sammy's on the Marina. It's my tradition.

If they are lucky enough for me to see them again, they pay for the rest of the relationship...everything.

I like Thai, so I like places like Indochine at the Bay and LemonGrass in Rundle Street.

You cannot tell me the steaks at Belair are better than the Clarry? I havent found a steak anywhere better than the Clarry. over an Inch thick and cooked to perfection.

oh forgot to add Namaste, the Nepalese joint in Parkside. We had their banquet and actually couldn't get through it, which is very rare for the group that I regularly go out to dinner with! Every dish was so nice. I can highly recommend the goats curry.

My fiance and I regulary go to hilltop Vietnamese at O'Halloran Hill, it is nothing fancy, its a small family owed and run restaurant. However it is always packed, I have never seen the place not full or close to it, doesnt matter what night. The food is simple, but it is good and cheap. They must make a killing out of it.
