I agree that the club may well consider it. In fact, I expect them to from a due diligence perspective. But I just can't see Ebert agreeing to any trade with Adelaide regardless of how much the club (and not the fans) want or don't want him.

Again, fair call, leave thread open. I was actually agreeing more to the Ebert don't want us, we don't NEED Ebert more than the close thread. (That said, don't think I would be complaining if we got him)

I disagree that Ebert wouldn't agree to come here. If he wants to come home and he isn't a complete prick he would agree with anything that got him to SA and got him the income he desired.

It is like suggesting no other Vic clubs will get a look in because ****$on has picked Hawthorn - the Crows will have 3 or 4 suitors all with the possbilitiy of convincing the little prick to play for them.

nominating a club doesn't mean that all the other clubs stop looking.

but that being said, I don't really care one way or another if he plays for the Crows - just means we can delist Symes.

Port will play overs for him as it is a good romance story for their club and supporters

Not the type of player we need, I would rather chase Howard

Jesus...

Reading this thread is frustrating...

Ebert is the exact type of player we need at the moment...Our midfield got absolutely destroyed all year and we have the opportunity to pick up a 21 year old South Aussie who wants to come home and who has played 75 games (22 out of 24 games for a top 4 side in 2011)...

I understand he is not fashionable right now due to a poor disposal, but to say that we do not need him is ridiculous. He would move straight into our starting lineup without question and would be a 8-10 year player for our club. Look at his stats - very similar to Danger's over their short careers, although every time Danger is mentioned people get sticky in the pants, yet Ebert is a do not want! (for what its worth, i do think Danger has more potential and will be a better player, but the negativity towards Ebert is ridiculous)...

But everyone saying we should go for Howard instead? Is this the kid who should have gone 2nd round (was a shock selection by the bulldogs at 15) and is almost the same age as Ebert and has played 6 games? I bet half of the clowns on this forum haven't even see him play, but just hear about him on Big Footy and think he is the messiah...

We should be absolutely trying our hardest to get Ebert to the Adelaide Football Club...

correct me if Im wrong, but when the talks of K Cornes trade to Adelaide for I Maric were going around wasnt the reason this would not work that the AFC were tight in the salary cap?? I'd think Brad Ebert would fetch more than K cornes at this stage of his career...

That would depend entirely on how much of Port's exorbitant salary we had to pay and how much Port had to pay as far as his remaining 2 years go.

Ebert isn't and won't be coming home for cash. He's crying homesickness.

He'll play for Adelaide if thats what it comes to, bookmark it. The 'I wanna be traded to Port' is posturing to ensure he gets to SA and they are first choice. But that's to scare off GC who will pick him on PSD day if he is there make no mistake about it.

Scott Thompson's first choice was Port too. Adelaide should absolutely make an offer, he's certainly better than some sitting on our list and some we ultimately draft in November and thats the end of the story.

Are you for real? There is a reason why Cornes will still be at Port next year playing SANFL. If he isnt your highest paid player he is top 3. The guy is on plenty.

As for the salary cap issues we have, you are spot on

I think Port were pig headed in regards to Scott Thompson trade. The club was in a far better position with their list than what they are now. I'd be very suprised if they diddnt get this deal done early in the trade week. Brad Ebert can and will be good honest player and Port would be crazy to not see that.

Fair call, but unfortunately for WC I think it's true. There are some significant differences between this and the Gunston issue:
1. Going to the PSD is not a threat for Ebert. PSD would all but guarantee Port get him, unless Gold Coast want to give him a sea change.
2. Melbourne has 10 clubs, Adelaide has 2.
3. I'm not trolling the WC board.

Ebert's priorities

1) play AFL footy, by remaining in the system
2) return home
3) play for Port

he isn't going to jeopardise 1 & 2 by either standing out for a year or risk going to GC. Who will absolutely take him regardless of what he wants. It's not 1992. GC can offer him more money and frankly more opportunity whilst their kids develop. After 2 years their kids would probably surpass him anyway and if he walked out on them or requested a trade home who cares, no skin of their nose.

Ebert is no different to Thommo. The only main issue being Port were a lot stronger when Thommo wanted to come home and didn't show much interest in him (shortsightedly). Thommo didn't let his hatred of the Crows stand in his way of playing AFL and returning home.

The Club should make an offer, and if WCE say to him we want to deal with Adelaide because they are coming to the table he has to make a choice. One which includes a cashed up GC who wont ignore a 21yo who went pick 13 given how shallow this draft is. He may as well sign with WCE for another 2, or, if he is so homesick say yes to the Club that told him he was in their top 2 draft choices.

If we had picked him at pick 10, he wouldn't be walking out on us, he'd be home. Until Danger puts pen to paper and pulls his finger out there is no evidence to suggest he was a much better choice yet anyway. We were calling out Ebert's name right up until Danger was still there, no reason to think that they wouldn't still look at him given this draft.

Id prefer to co-operate with Port on kids wanting to come home. Bugger the interstate clubs. If we arent interested for whatever reason, stay out of it. It could work both ways

worst attitude ever.

Port our a competitor - If I found out that Trigg and co allowed Ebert to go to Port for unders I would be disgusted and quite frankly question there ability to run a club in the required manner

can you imagine if the Vic clubs just let players go to the club of their choice at every opportunity?

hell how about we don't draft players that other club want so hopefully one day in the future they won't draft the players we want?

Port may be the "enemy" but sometimes you need support and the others in the comp wo't offer it. I'd be happy to work with Port "if we really don't want Ebert!"

you never ever ever give ground to a competitor (they aren't an enemy, that is giving them way to much credit).

They pay market value or we pick him up for Market value, bloody hell who gives their competition a free kick?

Remember the Gibbs dob in by those despicable ones.

If we can make them pay over the odds all is well & good.:thumbsu:

I wouldn't want us to pay overs or anything but surely we would make an offer at about what we feel he would be worth, if only to ensure Port don't get him for nothing.

David Noble, list manager was on 5AA tonight, and he said that Brad Ebert fits the age group and field position that Adelaide are looking to improve in.

At this stage they have so many irons in the fire, that they only have a passing interest at this stage, but that may well change during next week.

If we get our deals done early enough, I read it that we will definitely have a late crack at Ebert, all being well.

Or we could be picking our moment

The strategy may well be

1. Wait for the WC / Port negotiations to hit the wall
2. Port plan to take him in the PSD for nothing
3. Adelaide come in with a late offer to prevent WC losing him for nothing

Please tell me you aren't serious Triggy?

Not really that excited about Ebert but my preference would be to make our poor cousins squirm a little bit. If we get a pick say in the mid 20's offer it to WC for Ebert. It would then force Port to either trade a higher pick or send Ebert to the pre-season draft where they get him for nothing. However, by doing this it may come back to bite them because that would take the tally to at least 2 clubs they have screwed in trade week over the last few years, Freo-Josh Carr.

Let's not forget Boak is out of the contract at the end of the year and who will be sitting at the bottom of the ladder with pick 1 in the pre-season draft.

Exactly, TSR.

That would definitely be my strategy. :thumbsu:

"A passing interest" is still an interest. I think we're just sitting back and watching at this point, knowing how desperate Port would be to get him. I have no doubt that if we can get Ebert on the cheap because Port are trying to get him even cheaper, we'll do it. He might never be a star, but he's a tough player and we need more of those.

there is no question weh ave played this one quite well... we are in a much stronger position to do a trade with West Coast given the Gunston, Armstrong, Maric movements.

Unless of course Ebert is hell bent on screwing the hell out of West Coast for being dropped in the qualifying final.

The beauty of it is we'll be pay what he is actually worth where as Port are looking to lever their tanking for everything they can... they might need to sweet talk Gold Coast though.

It'll depend on what we can get for our fab 3.
