I'd be making a play for him, obviously I see him in a better light than some but the lad does not lack anything in the courage or physicality departments and can certainly find the pill, only downside is his disposal can be a tad iffy under pressure, though nowhere near as bad as some of our supporters would have us believe!! Just like we are suggesting to opposition suitors of Gunston's services we would be lucky to pick up a player of Brad's ability in this draft.

Sando did essentially highlight these areas as things that we would be focusing on (though I'm not sure that also applies to our trading). Regardless, we should at least make a decent offer so that Port have to pay a fair price. Would hate to see WC get ripped off because their situation is not unlike ours with Gunston (except Ebert probably won't be as good). Would almost be worth it just to see Danger and Ebert in the same team especially after all the fuss that surrounded them when they were drafted.

I wouldn't get to excited at the idea of trading for him just because he wants to come back to SA or the Dangerfield vs Ebert thing, if there are other players out there we can get who would benefit us more. However you would think he will turn out to be a solid player quite a while and you would hope we show some interest, if only to make sure Port have to pay what he is worth.

The best pick Port will offer for Ebert will be 28 (6 is not on the market) be that with or without Steak knives.

Adelaide look like getting Hawks pick 24 as part of the Gunston trade.

I'd be willing to trade that on to west Coast for Ebert in a heartbeat, and that trumps Port.

Please kindly offer something ok. It would be devastating to only get a late twenties pick. The kid will be a 200 game player.

I feel for you (seeing as we are in a somewhat similar situation) but unfortunately I can't see AFC offering more than our 2nd rounder or 3rd rounder for the kid. I see him worth a mid-late first round pick but unfortunately you probably won't get this in a deal with Port. Don't worry, I'm sure we'll offer something semi-decent just so Port have to pay a relatively fair price for him.

Losing Gunston to gain Ebert would be a tragedy.

It's reality. We will lose Gunston for a pick and a player.

Let's say we complete the Gunston trade for pick 24 and player X.

The question then is what do with pick 24, draft or use it as a trade.

If its the latter, I think Ebert for pick 24 would be better than what we would get out of the draft for pick 24.

That then would end up Ebert and player X for Gunston in reality.

I know what you're saying, but if the loss of Gunston results in gaining Ebert and Steak Knives X it will mean we have been massively dudded along the trading line.

Pick 24 is unders for Gunston. He'd go much higher if he entered the draft and we should only settle from around pick 15-18.

Even if we do get 24, I would rather roll the dice on the draft than pick up Ebert. The guy is just so bloody average. We're a team already full of okay players.

What we lack is a good top tier - Gunston can get there, Ebert can't. May as well take a chance with the pick we trade in.

Interesting reading this thread vs the one on the Port board.
Port fans "pick 28, preferably 33 or its PSD"
Adelaide fans, generally saying 24 at least is worth a player of Eberts ability.

Eberts contested marking was a highlight this year. I was very surprised by some of the pack marks he took, forward and backward of centre.
Certanly hasn't hit his peak.

Someone mentioned, only Cyril Rioli & Harry Taylor have played more games from that draft. Not bad and dispells the calls that he's not even best 22. He must have been at some point. Unfortunately for the bigfooty 2 minute memory, he wasn't in the 22 in our last game so that classes him as a fringe player.

If he didn't cost to much then I'd be interested in him joining Adelaide.
He woulld be a good long term replacement for Dogga.

I think it would be very foolish of us not to go hard after Ebert. We have a guy who is proven at AFL level playing 76 games by the age of 21 and if you look closely his stats are not too different from the 2nd coming (Patty D)...

They are the exact same age:

Games Played: PD 64 / BE 76
Average Kicks: PD 7.1 / BE 9.5
Average H/Balls: PD 7.8 / BE 6.8
Average Goals: PD 1.1 / BE .4
Average Tackles: PD 2.8 / BE 3.7

I do realise that Brad Ebert burns the ball a bit and that Patty has alot more upside - but I think that to date they are have had similar AFL careers. Our midfield is the area we need improvement in the most and we have the chance to secure a 21 year old South Australian who has played 76 games and proven himself to be AFL quality. He will immediately make the Crows better and could possibly play for another 10 years.

Love all of the sheep on big footy who immediately say 'do not want'....

I'd have a crack, he's not a superstar, but he's quality.

Agree.

in reality if Port don't play ball his only option might be us.

He would not have come to this conclusion if he did not have a guarantee from one of the SA clubs. It will be interesting to see what comes out of the situation.

That's BigFooty for you. We've got Hawks fans offering their garbage or a 12th rounder for Gunston and they feel like they're doing us a favour. If Jacky boy ends up there, he'll suddenly be a 250-game player who should have been Top 5 in the 2009 draft.

Ebert will be the same over on the Port Power '16th and loving it!' board.

Port will play overs for him as it is a good romance story for their club and supporters

Not the type of player we need, I would rather chase Howard
