Is it Eberts kicking or his decision making that is at fault?

IMO I think his decision making is poor, its not like he duffs the kick or it lands short or floats end over end etc. Against the Dons that short pass out of defence wouldn't have gone 15m, was cut off and they ran inside 50 and goaled.

Later Ebert ran and passed the ball inside our 50 and picked out 2 Essendon players.

The lad lacks poise and the only way he will get that is through experience.

We're hoping anyway.

Personally I have never thought that is his problem. In fact I'd say he makes good decisions mostly. I just think he is a terrible disposer of the ball.

You can't compare them. Ebert was a first round pick, Stevenson a rookie. Ebert has played how many games over how many years? Stevenson has played what 5 games all this year?

At the end of the day, both are best 22 at the moment. So there games should be comparable.

What I'm saying is that people want Ebert to fail and Stevenson to succeed. So one bad kick is seen as an anomaly from Stevenson and written off, whereas it is highlighted for Ebert

That's partly because there have been plenty of examples of Stevenson pinpointing top notch passes, Ebert not so much. All players have ups and downs, but its the trend with Ebert that's a bit worrying.

Re the weekend, Ebert had an alright game, he ran hard and provided an outlet on a few occassions. Stevenson, while he had less of the ball and a few clangers, was more instrumental in more movements resulting in goals than Ebert.

In light of todays disaster, I thought I'd highlight at least one positive.

Ebert's kicking and decision making has been noticeably better in the last two weeks.

He could develop into a very handy player.

Very little other than confirm that DE% is a useless stat.

At this point id take Ebert over S Selwood. (Both are horrendous decision makers with poor skill) Simply because he seems to have more strings to his bow. Funny how S Selwood doesn't have his own thread (maybe a joint thread lol)

I'm giving a big up to Ebert for his kicking in the last couple of rounds. He gets knocked thoroughly on here for being a shit kick, but not much kudos for when he's kicking well. Props to you, Stefan.

Right on about Scooter. His kicking is actually pretty good but will sometimes make terrible decisions in dangerous spots. That's just an experience thing.

Ebert haters jumped the gun and piled on, like Scooter.

I think the perception on his longevity has turned around, like Scooter.

For some of the other youngsters we've written off, maybe patience will pay dividends, like Scooter.

I'm only guessing, but I reckon Ebert is only now getting over his OP. He seems to be running a lot quicker, whilst certainly not express, and kicking with much more penetration.

P.S. Scott Selwood held Hill to 15 possessions and got 17 of his own. Hill kicked 2 goals to Scooter's 1. I think that's a very good effort in a team that was soundly beaten. He also made 5 tackles to Hill's 0.
