I’d say as a receiving / linking mid in the mould of Crisp when he goes through there could be a decent entry point.

Would add value with his pace in running transition chains from the back half.

As a first receiver in tight can explode out of stoppage as we’ve seen a few times.

I think that’s his bread and butter for now until he fully grows into his body and his core hits its potential.

When that happens, if he can add an inside game and become an aerial threat up forward he could he really could be anything. Big ‘if’ of course.

But purely in terms of physical attributes he’s a bit of a unicorn.
I hope he has an opportunity against Nth next week to play the entire match in the guts, with the inclusion of Daicii x2, Long and co.
Let him just play unrestricted and keep the confidence flowing.
Kinda liked the selfishness too yesterday, just to say to himself I can do this. Grow the belief.
Dont care at this stage if he stuffs the kick so much, it’ll improve hopefully.

The point he kicked on run in the third yesterday- a number of his team mates were yelling out ‘goals Ed’ once he took possession in middle

I don't view him as that much of a unicorn - at least not on our list. It was a bit of a Dekka type towards the end. Cochrane is very physically similar.
TJ a bit shorter but similar too. Tall outstanding runners.

I think they're likely to remain teases. As Gone Critical has pointed out, the good ones play early - and I think it's to do with processing speed more than outstanding athletic traits. To me, these guys are tracking more like Oleg and Frampton. Outstanding physical traits mean they'll get longer to develop in the industry and I'll be happy if they become decent role players. I hope I'm wrong and they're the rare slow developing type.

This is where he needs to be played
He beat Petracca, Oliver and Viney when played there, year before last.
Ned took that spot and he was pushed to the wing.
Needs to be in the rotation
That Melb game was nothing but a training run. He didn’t beat any of them. They had checked out. Hence why he we are 18months later still hoping he can make it

Looked stronger - like he'd really added some power to that first couple of steps. Physical tools are obviously very good and if he can add strength they'll be outstanding.
Long, Allan, Crisp and Anderson all around 194cm, should physically out muscle most midfields. It will be an interesting season on that measure alone.
Even the elite little guys eg Ashcrofts, Serong, Neale, etc can’t stop a freight train when tackled.

Height isn't strength.

Yet look at the world’s strongest men none are short
If you're tall and have the right body type you can carry more muscle than a shorter player. But I know who i'd back in for a push and shove to get access to the footy between Matty Rowell and Mason Cox. It wouldn't be Mason.

Plus we've had a tall midfield for years - Pendles, Crisp and Jordy and added Long last year.

Yet being taller means you have more mass and are harder to move. Smaller man can be strong but they also have to exert more strength matching a heavier mid

It can mean that, but height isn't weight. It can also mean a higher centre of balance making it easier to shift you off the line of the footy. It depends on the body shape and type.

You're right if you're talking about Cripps, but good luck to Ed Allan in trying to clear a path against Prestia, Rowell, Gaz Jr or Dane Swan.

In the modern game it is harder to be tall and physical. As you present a bigger target while having a smaller target area to hit

Schultz is one of our smaller blokes who is sheer muscle which shows in how the players he tackles stay tackled. I rate him better than Tay Adams in this respect as he used to get steamrooled by the taller big bodies especially the ones wearing those orange tops.

My sketchy eye says that Ed looks to have finally arrived. To me, he looked all class. Very impressive game. He's going to destroy sides this year. High praise but I have a feeling

Want to see it in a Proper AFL Game before I say he will become a Best 22 in 2026

If Crisp is in our starting midfield this year we're in real trouble. I think he's going to be phased out bar a stunning turnaround. He doesn't have the brains or unique traits to play deep into his older age IMO. An amazing contributor for many years but needs to be surpassed for us to move forward.

RE Allan, I'll believe the hype when I see him do something half decent up against a first string midfield. If he can be a decent role player I'll be pleased.

I think youve gone off a little early mate. Lets wait for the real stuff to start

I tend to go early. I'm predicting a Ned Long style rise. I actually think he'll be better than Ned. It is early but I'm confident. I've been wrong before though

If you're eyes are as sketchy as mine, you might have mistaken him for Jordy... I hope you're right though.
