Aside from your first sentence, I have to agree. He was frustrating last night. He gets an opportunity to show his wares - in front of his home crowd, no less - and is found wanting. Very disappointing for such a highly-rated prospect.
I think there is still a tiny chance of a super high outcome for him at sort of a Jack Crisp level but I think he is more of a WHE/Lipinski level which is still a long successful career. He will continue to struggle to get games while our older players are performing so strongly

He showed so much in his last game last year and, I guess, I was expecting a lot more! I hope he comes on but I felt that last night he looked like he was scared to make a mistake and as a result was as agressive as he might have been.

Yep, he still looks a fair bit off it physically, i certainly dont think he's a Fin Macrae type where he just doesn't belong at senior level at all though

Needs a breakout game. There were good signs last night. I loved the way he was sticking up for players, he's starting to believe
Also liked seeing him play a bit all over. Ran around on the wing and seemingly defensively - it's my biggest knock on him, so if he can tidy up that side it would be great to see

He just lacks desperation and mongrel.

Plays like a gentlemen who doesn't wanna get his shorts dirty.

On the plus side he had a few nice handpasses in traffic, still needs to add more to his game.
Plays like Lipinski without the foot skills.

Whenever kids get judged harshly I think about players like Bruzzy, Swanny and Josh at the start of their careers.

You don’t have to go back that far. Ned Long, Joe Richards and Nathan Murphy were players who were panned at the start of their career with many claiming they wouldn’t make it.

The truth is, we have NFI whether a player will or won’t make it.

I thought Murphy was no chance.

However, the late blooming successes are the exceptions in the AFL and not the norm. And even then they tend to be role players anyway.

Josh Daicos is a very rare slow starting star.

The way Ed is tracking, if we end up with a solid role player, it'll be a good outcome from here.

He's just not ready for AFL footy. His core strength is not good enough to play in the middle and his composure and skill execution is not good enough to play on the wing. Should be following Pendlebury around and working his arse off to build up his legs and core strength.

I hope I am wrong and he makes it. What disappoints me about him is that despite this, he can still show intent when defending or the ball is in dispute in the air and/or on the ground - but he doesn't. At the moment, I see him as a Will Kelly. In no mans land and needs to get serious about his AFL career if he wants it.

Again, I hope he makes it and starts to fill out and start to contest seriously. If he doesn't want to do that, he better work his arse off on his vision, composure and skill execution to be and outside player.

His weaknesses were concerning and obvious too at Junior level.... and they're significant. Composure is a big one, as a weakness if you're going to be an outside player (any player for that matter). And you can't have strength if you want to play inside. https://central.rookieme.com/afl/player/edward-allan/

Plays exactly like his Junior profile.... gets the ball, but no hurt factor and little to no defense. Again I hope he does what Pendlebury did. Pick a professional senior player (like Pendlebury) and train with him in Preseason.
