Jury is still out on Ed. Need to see more but also not prepared to risk playing him if we don’t need to. Unless we are into that level of our depth, he should keep building in the VFL for now.

We’re challenging for the flag. We’re not rebuilding.
Agreed. He's been in our system for 2 and a half years and needs to:

1. Determine what he wants to be at AFL level. Even his draft profile has him listed as a utility meaning at junior level he wasn't good enough to claim a midfield spot. I don't see him as a midfielder. He hesitates and spectates too much, without the kicking ability to hurt on the outside. His build also makes him easy to push off the ball.

2. Why not try playing as a medium back? Has speed and long limbs which would help him nullify contests. His speed may be beneficial in rebounding from D50. I don't see this being any worse an option than what he's trying now as a mid.

Ed will play eventually, he's a jet! The knock on him during his under 18 days was never the his speed, skill, endurance but his involvement. Has played predominately as an out side player since U18 champs. Anybody that questions his skill set is a goose...... Averaging above 23 possessions at VFL level as a mid this year, as soon as that translates to a 20+ on average at AFL level, Bob's your uncle.
No turning back! Will be a long term CFC AFL level unit.

The goose bit was a bit harsh but other than that I agree. Could run harder both ways though

A) is everyone a Jet?

B) You misinterpreted my post. I acknowledged his speed and endurance, hence why I suggested he may be suited as a medium-tall back.

C) Maybe we're watching different players as I don't see the skill you're mentioning.

D) Averaging 23 possessions at VFL level means what? For his position it's about quality rather than quantity and the quality isn't there.

E) Bob is my dodgy younger brother, not Uncle

F) Will likely be traded to West Coast / Freo if not this year, the following.

There's no certainties in football. Us punters have very limited inside knowledge of the inner workings of the club. I think Ed is getting pretty close to becoming a competent AFL footballer but at the same time, he could quite easily be a bust. Let's worry about winning the flag and be grateful for such a durable and well run run club. Let Ed forge his own destiny

Don't want to lose him and he's under contract so...

I doubt we'd accept pick 26 this time
Would be hard to knock back with the likely headache McGuane and McCarthy will cause our recruiters. A big chunk of points in the form of a 2nd rounder for a very fringe mid would be pretty decent.

Not to mention there's every chance he drops down the pecking order with the acquisition of McGuane (and our inevitable nabbing of Bont/Butters ;) )

We've got to get Butters just to make old Kane's head fully explode

I watched Ed closely.... I understand he's got the atheletic tools, but he has nowhere near the intensity or hunger for the footy at this stage and doesn't utilise his athletic gifts.

He sits back a bit of loose balls and doesn't go hard on his tackles. He seems to float around the ground without a real influence on play.

A few times he seemed to get a little lost in play. Still seems a little unsure when to go.
I think it's a confidence thing once he gets more regular senior footy, should hopefully sort itself out.
