We are only using him for his running ability, but he lacks game sense as a winger. Think we are better off trying roan who is currently a better offensive threat.
Get games into kids is never wasted, he’ll get better. Either way if all goes to plan he loses his spot to accomodate some of the stars that are currently missing.

Heaps of blokes get delisted with 10 to 50 games under their belt. Senior footy isn't a magic developer of players.

It’s one of our improvements under Fly …

… he doesn’t waste many games on players who aren’t destined to make it.

And I don’t see many other clubs taking our castoffs who can’t get a game and turning them into something useful.

Either way you need to give them games to see whether they make the cut, the more games you give them the quicker you can determine their future value. Allan is scintillating prospect, I’m not concerned if he has down games at this stage.

But heaps of players get cut without getting games. And how a player performs this year doesn't tell you how much they'll improve over thenext two years - it's just one feedback point that list managers would use to help assess where the payer is at and what they're likely to become.

It just comes down to whether playing them before ready is a better way to develop them or whether waiting until they're ready is the way to go. I think we're doing it pretty well.

He's got a big enough body. He strikes me as a bit soft which lets him down. Needs Ned to rub off on him a bit!

Tends to avoid getting the hard ball and instead hovers at the back of the pack waiting for the ball to get to him.
I get the sense he’s been instructed to stay on the outside so he can use his speed.

Will be hard for Fly to trust Ed in a big final after that incident in the last quarter against Freo.
He needs a big summer working on his ground ball fundamentals
Why are you ignoring his fantastic snap? Showed a level of talent that was surprising for a guy of 194cm. I’ll take that over a missed ground ball, in deciding on his inclusion.

It was a straightforward snap - you'd expect them all to make that more often than not. And there is no "for a guy of 194cm" when you don't play tall roles. He'll either just make the team or just miss out - that's where he's at

Yes - but I was just giving your comparison an equivalent context.
You talked like 194cm is some lumbering giant without any agility at AFL level when in reality it’s not. Bont is 194cm. Allan isn’t 211cm Sandilands.

Anyway on current form he’s very expendable and like long come finals and full strength might find the themselves on the outer

Agree, watch the goal he kicked from the bounce. His running pattern wasn't to either create a contest, maintain numbers in the forward line or get behind the ball, he clearly stayed outside the contest and in-front of the ball to ensure he was well positioned for the eventual spill - looked to me that he was following instructions and it paid off - well coached and well executed.

That tells you that Ed is coachable - he was instructed to keep his width and reaped the benefit.
He's got all the tools, he just needs more time to put it all together.
Remember, he's not long turned 21, so he's still a kid.
Not everyone can be a Nick and dominate from day one.

People also need to remember we’re pushing for a premiership. When selecting players were going to select players who will get in done in finals this year not develop into a solid player two years from now.

Being 21 isn’t going to be an out of there’s a better option available at the selection table.

Not everyone can be Nick but there’s a reason why he was a premiership player in his second whilst others of the same age in the list weren’t.
