Ed's best position is midfield, stand up and use his height to distribute, actually has real good vision most of the time.... though ever know and then will do the 'Ned Long' hope handpass forward into space.

The exciting aspect of his game which we all want to see more of is that run and gun from stoppages....If he finds space in the middle Ed can accelerate and while his kicking isn't consistent at the stage of his career, Ed is a good user and has the ability to find inside 50 targets.

All CFC's midfield should rack up numbers this weekend if they're are a genuine contender.

He needs to show some aggression in his game, flailing your arms against an opponent doesn’t do shit, needs to tackle, show your speed.
Not convinced with him, finals go to another level, don’t see him at this stage being able to rise to that challenge
Some of his defensive efforts reminded me of Ollie Henry.

In a very bad way

Wasn't at his best and went for too many speculative handballs.
Didn't apply any pressure at all to that bloke who goaled from the boundary line.
You need to watch that play again. He applied pressure to about 4 different players during that passage. He did all he could do and the guy kicked a lucky goal in the end.

He really frustrates me. Plays way too safe. He corralls all day long. His corralling stats must be through the roof - but he never actually risks going in for the tackle.

100% correct was horribly exposed by a substandard bunch today. Lacks composure and appears to be terrified of any physical contact (squibing the marking contest before Nicks third goal a prime example). Gallivants around in the last quarter of games when it's over and pads his stat's sucking people into thinking hes a player.
But sadly we can't carry a soft liability when the intensity ramps up come September.

All he could do?? Really?
Lol. Did you watch the previously 60 seconds where he chases down 3 other guys and then works hard to get close to the goal kicker. He looks like almost the only Collingwood player on the field. I expect Fly to highlight it to the playing group during the week and praise the effort.

Does that actually look like a supposedly fast athletic player working hard??

I gave you a suggestion. Maybe do that before responding. You just look bitter.
I watched the effort live and was spewing, and have watched replays and feel the same. His earlier efforts were there, but also lacked physicality.

His defensive application in general is pretty obviously his weakness, and why he is a fringe player.

Maybe watch it again. You seem like one of those blokes who is always spewing bile on the game day thread. Maybe come back after watching the replay.

The the coaches want him to take that risk?

He’s essentially only in the side because he’s tall and cover the ground quickly which makes him a defensive asset on the far side wing why waste that by have him commit to contests he can’t win?

I think he’s progressing ok. His disposal is hit and miss. My beef with him is how poorly he bends for the ball when running at it…needs to bend his knees and put his body in front of it, or his head over it, so he covers for a potentially poor bounce. Last week in the final quarter after kicking that nice goal that could have been a sealer, he completely overran the ball at the half back and it went straight to a Freo player for a goal which (I think) started their run. Did the same today in the 1st half.

But I believe we should persevere with him. He’s inconsistent, but he has improved over the season and we will need a bit of youth come finals….our mids have looked slow on leg speed the last 3 weeks….other than Nick (and one quarter with Josh against GC).
