It’s a shocking effort! Barely broke out of a jog. Cannot believe it’s being defended - athleticism is meant to be his point of difference!
He's got no confidence - worried about missing a tackle. I don't think we'll know what we've got until he's bulked up and willing to back himself.

The the coaches want him to take that risk?

He’s essentially only in the side because he’s tall and cover the ground quickly which makes him a defensive asset on the far side wing why waste that by have him commit to contests he can’t win?
The rest of the team do.

The rest of the team do.
The rest of the team doesn’t do that in every situation though. They’ll still corall at time. Bobby is a good example, he’ll only go for the tackle when he’s got momentum on his side otherwise he’ll guard the space.

It’s just Allan will only corall unless he can close down the space before the opposition collects possession.

I hope I’m wrong because I don’t think we can carry a winger who offers us nothing in possession much like Mayne in 2018 but I get the feeling Allan is going to be that frustrating selection for the rest of the season because the coaching staff see the value in his positioning.

Maybe watch it again. You seem like one of those blokes who is always spewing bile on the game day thread. Maybe come back after watching the replay.
Generally not really no - I like it as an outlet if I’m not able to go, like today.

It’s consecutive weeks now where Allan has cost goals through not meeting minimum standards in fairly fundamental efforts. It’s not a good pattern

He still plays like a rookie. Also needs an off season getting stronger. Decision making will develop with more games but does Fly have patience? Or will someone interstate offer a future first and Pies take the bite?

When he's maybe around 24 or 25, he could be handy.

Future first? I’d take that and run.

I had a bit to say about Allan in the post-game thread, where I initially posted on the way home from the footy and was still fuming about aspects of his performance yesterday. I was also very cold and very wet ha ha - and Ed copped it!

I appreciate others have different views - Ed has us divided a bit like Macrae did last year. Will he or won’t he make it?

Anyway I’ve said enough and will back off.

What exactly do you expect from a 14 gamer?

How good were Josh Daicos first 14 games? I'll answer that...here are some quotes on Josh Daicos from this forum from 2019, his 3rd season, when he had around 14 games under his belt. Kids take time...patience....

Otherwise he will end up like Broomhead - AFL level of class, but physically NQR for any AFL role.

geez its disappointing to hear he played midfield and only had 6 touches, given he's contracted for next year my early guess is they will delist with a promise to rookie if no one takes him.

Daicos is a Lovely Field Kick but he does not have much else to his Game

He's lacking urgency and seems to drift through games, and I wonder if confidence --he'd really be wondering where and when his next senior opportunity might appear-- is the biggest issue at the moment.

By "all the talent" do you mean he's a nice kick?

Lots of his game that seems pretty weak, poor mark, can't win his own ball, lacks speed and undersized.

Good bit of research.

Not arguing that Josh took a while - I watched him in the VFL for a couple of years. And one of the best parts of that was seeing Dad Peter there, and little teenage brother Nick playing kick to kick with his mates at half time.

I can’t see Ed following the same path as Josh.

But, to repeat myself, I’ve said enough about Ed.

Would love Ned to watch a video of Mr Gavin Brown.
That’s the guy he needs to try and model his game on.
Has speed, height and some talent.
Not saying Ed doesn’t have courage, just needs more desperation and strength.
Maybe it will come, maybe it won’t.

Obviously defensive running is his #1.
Thanks for posting, I think this sums up Ed's game, he's there to run between the arcs and mop up the loose ball and to stay outside the play to work as a blocking/linking player - we'd need to know what the coaches' instructions are for him to really understand whether his apparent lack of intensity is a trait or an instruction. Can't help thinking that he's being set for a role on the Bailey Smith/Max Holmes types in September - the last thing we need now is for him to bust a shoulder in a tackle that is in-consequential to the season.

He needs to show some aggression in his game, flailing your arms against an opponent doesn’t do shit, needs to tackle, show your speed.
Not convinced with him, finals go to another level, don’t see him at this stage being able to rise to that challenge
I think he’s playing to instructions to stand back from the contest and use his speed when he takes possession.

I rarely commit my opinions to post, and here's the reason why.

Some a-hole is always going to reach back into the murky depths of your posting history and discover that mad moment when you dared to make an observation.

Now I say it best when I say nothing at all.

Gavin Brown was a very rare talent mate.
Superstar.
Not many ever reach his heights.

Unfortunately you don't learn maniacal courage like Rowdy had....its inbuilt or its not. Ed's a bit more Alan Atkinson (although Akko actually had a go as well)
