Player Watch Ed Allan

I'm convinced if you took McCreery and placed him in the body of Allan you'd end up with another McCreery at a minimum.

Despite peoples hopes McCreery will never be a high production midfielder or a 35 goal half forward. He isn't an elite talent.

He is however fast, strong, competitive, hard at the contest and maximizes the physical gifts bestowed upon him. He's an impact player.

Allan stands as tall as Charlie West and with broader shoulders, the coach will tell you he's as good a runner we have at the club, a stopwatch once declared him in the top percentile for speed among that seasons draftees.

He has all the physical tools to be a McCreery level talent but so far hasn't displayed the mental capacity to play with the same level of hunger for the contest.

Unfortunately that's difficult to teach, it's often innate and for quite a few players that competitive edge will never come naturally.

I'd still like to hope it can be improved on however, though the question is how?

I don't have the answers though if I was coach a basic first step would be pulling the likes of Maynard, Schultz etc aside and asking them to always be pushing Allan to find new levels of competitiveness at each training session, in any game, to pull him up if he drops below a standard expected and encourage when he exceeds it. Basically he needs some tough love from the elite competitors on our list IMO.

I haven't put a line through Allan but watching Anderson in game number one last week and his appetite for the contest was obvious.

That's what we need to see from Ed and more importantly Ed needs to see in himself.

Not as frustrating as watching him on ball would be

Outstanding runner who is struggling with his contests on the wing just screams inside mid to me...

I’m going to be very annoyed if I see less than 5 centre bounce attendances after the game.

I'm surprised how much I've turned on this guy after being huge wrap, I guess it comes from potentially being the modern-day specimen player that we would love to see him turn into, for me he has had enough chances but would be the first to put my hand up if proven wrong (doubt it)

Got the finger on the trigger to rip into him post the game!!!
Agree. Its hard when you had hopes he was going to be something special.. Be that tonight Ed

That could be every one for the match the way these teams are going.

He is so soft it is not funny. Just avoids physical contact. That free kick against Howe in the last qtr and goal. Watch Ed Allan's marking contest prior. So soft and weak.

This bloke has ZERO hunger for the ball. He plays without any spirit.

Slowest “quick” guy I’ve ever seen play footy I reckon.

He’ll go down in the Brayden Sier pile.
