Thank God Ellard got suspended, we may have never known what we have unearthed!

Agreed, but it is a massive shame for Ellard who copped an ordinary suspension just before round 1 and is now fighting for a spot with Robbo and Curnow.

But in true Ellard style he will put his head down and get to work.

ED CURNOW'S second chance at the big time was two long years in the making and he's determined to repay Carlton for recognising and rewarding his hard work.

The 21-year-old former Adelaide rookie has been a revelation since the Blues handed him a surprise AFL debut in round one after they plucked him from VFL side Box Hill at last year's NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

"I was just thankful for the opportunity. It's taken a while, but since I've been at Carlton, I've just really enjoyed my footy," Curnow says.

That was a great read and gives you a real insight into the sort of character he is and why he has been able to do what he has managed this year so far, especially after those injuries.

We know how effective a good in and under division can be with the outside players we have and we are already seeing a change in our midfield set ups and clearances.

His disposal has been great especially by hand, very creative with his handballing. I had doubts over his kicking in the preseason but whilst not being dynamic is serviceable and hits the intended target. His strength is his decision making IMO which for an in and under mid is very valuable.

His workrate is a feature and keeps him in the game over 4 quarters which is what he have lacked with a young team in the past few years. He works both ways and pushes himself to each and every contest.

It's pretty safe to say that I love this guy and what he was brought to the team. He still has a lot of work to do to stay in the side but he hasn't put a foot wrong.
