So it's just better to let the kids read it, do nothing and hope it stops?
You know you can report and block people on social media, yeah? If you see someone making a racist comment then report it to Instagram and they'll delete it and suspend the account.

Writing a news article every time an AFL player gets targeted is the dumbest thing you could do. I'm sure Mr."niggacantwalk" is hating all the attention and will definitely stop being a troll because Nic Nat told him to.

Surely with the amount media for the AFL they will jump on anything. Player responses goes too far. Ignore the hunts.

Losing a job doesn't cause you to become a bank robber. I guarantee if he worked for me I'd fire his ass. No need for racist shitheels in my employ.

If it's a pattern then yes but over 1 comment is ridiculous.

Would you fire a AFL player for the same thing?

Over 1 comment is pathetic...he would learn more if he went through some education and meeting Indigenous people

Do people lose 2 years membership if they'd actually assault someone ?

Think he's required to undergo a cultural awareness program also.

I assume more than that.

ETIHAD Stadium management has confirmed it’s in the process of informing one patron caught up in Friday night’s nasty AFL brawl that they’ve been banned permanently from future events at the venue.

And the league also confirmed it’d cancelled the AFL membership of the patron arrested after receiving a full incident report from Etihad Stadium management and Victoria Police.

^^ That's a good sign. Assaulting people is far worse than making online comments

So when your kid starts racially or otherwise abusing another kid, you're going to ignore it because why give them the attention they are seeking. Kids everywhere are mean so why bother trying to call out the bad behaviour of just 1 kid.

I assume when it's your kid that is subject to the abuse, you would would be similarly uncaring.

Great parenting. Raising the next generation of selfish undisciplined campaigners ready to go to white Australia rallies and join in the immigrant bashing.

It's funny, people complain about current generations being mollycoddled and needing a soft touch, yet when those same people see unacceptable behavior they dont want to call it out. I guess racism is just one of those great Aussie traditions that is above reproach to some people.

What a completely dumb * comment. There is absolutely no link between trying to rid the internet of every single bad comment as opposed to being a good parent.
Can't believe you would be as stupid to try an link two completely unrelated things and think you have formed a cohesive argument

There is absolutely no link between trying to rid the internet of every single bad comment as opposed to being a good parent.
Calling out s**t behaviour when you see it on the internet is no more trying to rid the internet of every single bad comment than correcting a child's behaviour of trying to so every single bad thing a child does

So every footy show an newspaper should spend the next 27 weeks reading out an highlighting comments

Then you continue to ignore them and they get frustrated and bored and then move onto something else. The internet didn't come out yesterday you realise?

Delete the comments, ban them from posting. Occasionally make a public example of them like this bloke.

"Ignoring online trolls isn't actually as effective as claimed and usually results in an escalation of behaviour."

"So ignore them some more!"

"Ignoring online trolls isn't actually as effective as claimed and usually results in an escalation of behaviour."
Wrong. Research from Stanford and Cornell universities has shown that anti-social behaviour is exacerbated when trolls receive negative feedback. They feed off of the reactions. If you don't give it to them they get bored and move on.

The AFL media blowing uo these stories is just going to result in more racist comments. You'll sometimes get lucky, and someone will say something stupid on an account that has their real name and face. But it takes 10 seconds to set up a new account under a fake name and picture and at that point it becomes impossible to "name and shame" them. Nobody is excusing racism but come on man, this is the internet. If you are a public figure you are going to get hate comments. Turn off the comments, block accounts, report racist remarks to the moderators.

The Cornell report at least said the behaviour gets worse until they're banned and that negative feedback impacts most if they're genuinely held views as opposed to attention seeking.

Where do either of them say that ignoring them is the way to go?

They should change the messaging though.

It shouldn't be "The Online troll apologises..."

It should be "Racist bigot shows remorse..."

He ain't a "troll" he's a racist fwit.

The Pies treatment of a cheer squad member:
The club's indigenous programs manager Deb Lovett confirmed the suspension on the ABC's 7.30 program on Wednesday.

"The decision was made that that person's membership was suspended. Cheer squad and Collingwood membership were both suspended for 12 months," she said.
"The ultimate aim would be to educate her before she comes back to the club if she comes back to the club."

Well done Pies.

Lol. Ignoring internet trolls actually IS the best way to deal with them. They literally live for attention. You give them a media article every time they post something offensive and you better buckle up because it's going to get bumpy. They can make unlimited free aliases online btw.

It's not trolling when you believe it.
