Bump.
I've watched enough of this man week in and week out to make this call.
He is the most pure, instinctively talented footballer we've ever had at the club - with the exception of McLeod and D Jarman.
This bloke does things on a football field - some aren't even obvious to the great unwashed - that 99% of people who pick up a football will never be able to do.
Worth every single penny it cost us to get him across.

The good thing is they won't remember him playing for Carlton. That reminds me. How does father-son work in Eddie's case? How long does he have to play for us for us to have any claim on all his little Eddie's?
He's got to play 100 games for the club and his sons get the choice between Adelaide and Carlton, as Darren Jarman's sons will between Adelaide and Hawthorn. Don't see the Hawks winning that one (unfortunately). :-(That reminds me. How does father-son work in Eddie's case? Father-Son probably won't be a thing by the time his kids are old enough.
With future draft pick trading being introduced, I can't see how they can continue the Father-Son system.
If you've got a Gary Ablett Jr coming on the market in 2 years, just trade that first round pick the year before. Get him for your second round pick and get a good player with a year's development for free.
Does it shit everyone else that wingard will get his AA position and Eddie will miss out? The selectors always have short memories and seem to forget about the start of a year and focus on a strong finish
The F/S bidding system is also being changed to a point ranking system, with draft picks being worth a certain amount of points. If a club has a highly rated F/S prospect on the horizon, and that club has traded away its first round draft pick for his eligible draft year, then they'll struggle to gather enough picks to reach the required points threshold to bid on the player.
Geez - can these drafts, (rookie, pre-season, national) free-agents, restricted free-agents, points for F/S get any more complicated? This is plain ridiculous.
Thanks headache but I'll leave draft management to those that truly understand it. Now, where my expertise is with Dangers contract...It's essentially to make teams with academies pay a fair price for the highly rated players said academies produce, so you don't have a repeat of the situation where a team like Sydney make the grand final, then add a prospect like Heeney, who was rated in the top 3 for his draft class. I'm unsure why they had to lump the F/S and Academy prospects together as one, but they did.

And by the time they're ready to play he'll be back in Victoria anyway.Father-Son probably won't be a thing by the time his kids are old enough.

And with their new academy/FS rule you only get a 25% discount, so they place a value on him based on other teams bids and you have to use draft picks to match the value, so if you trade future picks you may not have enough draft picks to grab a F/S pick and then be forced to trade out players for more draft picks if you want to grab them.
He said in an interview recently that he considers Victoria his home and he'll move back there once he's finished with footy. Still plenty of time for him to change his mind I guess.I wouldn't think that's a foregone conclusion. Betts is originally from SA.

Here's his quote, was only from last week I think.Ah ok, didn't know that. He had been there for a long time. I think his dad lives here doesn't he?
“I love kids,” Eddie explained, while his own two children, Lewis and Billy buzzed around in the background during a chat exclusively for the Sunday Mail.
“If it’s not teaching kids it’s coaching kids, but teaching is something I’d like to do,” Betts said, admitting that he will more than likely enrol to study teaching during his one day off per week from Crows training next year, with the intention of becoming a teacher in Victoria when his AFL career is over.
“I spoke to (wife) Anna about it, and we only get one day off from training, and with my injuries I haven’t had the time, but when I move back to Victoria; and I see Victoria as my home now; I’d like to (teach),’’ he said.

His Dad is from Port Lincoln I believe, which was one of the reported reasons for him moving over here.
