You guys should listen to that guy earlier in the thread that said Betts is done now that he's 26. :thumbsu:

I want to keep him but it's not panic stations if he goes. Band 2 compensation would probably be on the cards and we have some depth in the position. Is a gem of a player.

Just because he looks 56! You guys are so ageist down at Carlton...disgrace :p

My only rider on the vote is that I don't have an issue with the price, just the years of the contract. Not sure I would give anyone a rumoured 4 year deal.
In the end it might be what seals the deal in getting Betts over. Another method of "overpaying" in free agency. Also, as has been said, if the first year is frontloaded, the 4th year shouldn't be a huge issue.

Sando just been on 5aa and the topic of Eddie Betts came up. Sando, who had been reasonably open until then, went a little coy. While admitting that he would like him playing for us, that was qualified by "if he became available" and the fact that he was still playing for Carlton.

When talking about Betts, it was a case of dismiss what Sando was saying and listen to how he was saying it. He didn't want to talk about Betts, which makes me think that we have him just about locked up at this stage - which of course officially we can't say because he's still playing for Carlton.

IMO it was a case of less was more, and left me with a very optimistic feel about Betts coming to Adelaide. :thumbsu:

Also notice earlier when talking about our forward line setup next year he was saying players names and then said 'who will be our small forward'.

I suspect his hands are tied by the fact that Betts' club is still an active participant in the finals. There may have been a different answer if Carlton's season were done & dusted the way ours is.

Can they get done for tampering or something if they start going into specifics about free agents and things of that nature?

I'm quietly whispering to myself "please be true" over and over.

Haha. It will be great. Ive know this guy for many years and he has never let me down before. So I trust what I'm being told is the truth.

Interesting enough although nothing to do with us. He thinks Pears will be a Blue next year. He told me that last night.

I agree, its probably the difference between getting him and not. However, i'd rather give him the $2M over 3 years than over 4, thats just how I view 4 year contracts. I think Clubs take a massive risk when signing anyone to a 4 year deal, you have injuries and motivation issues to consider.

Betts will be 27 and a half before a ball is kicked in anger next year which means you are banking on him still being worth picking at the age of 31, regardless of the money you pay him in a 4th season.

Having said that, If I were in charge of recruiting I'd certainly ensure he got here.

Does this Petrenko highlight reel have the time he chased after a loose ball and soccered it into space, then chased it again and soccered it again and it went out of bounds on the half forward flank and everyone clapped and said how hard Petrenko tries?

Tell me about it. Petrenko has played maybe 6 months of decent football in his career. He should feel very happy to have played as many games as he has. Next year will be make or break for him. He won't be the coaches pet much longer if he keeps up his current form.

I'm convinced his only chance now is a move to the backlines. He's no forward and I certainly wouldn't want him in the middle.

I agree with what you're saying to an extent, but I'm not so sure about the 'next year will be make or break' part.

HE ALREADY BROKE.

I only meant that he's still contracted for 2014. If that wasn't the case and his contract had run out this year, I'd wager his name would be mentioned in the same light as McKernan's i.e trade or delist immediately.

As it stands, Petrenko has another season to sort his shit out. Fingers crossed he remembers how to play football again because he can be an influential player when he's in form.

Have offered him $550 K per year for 4 years. Betts & his management have agreed in principle and will formalise an offer when FA starts.

That all sounds great and all, but do you have a source within Adelaide or Carlton that has confirmed this with you, or are you going on radio / newspaper / bf forum gossip?

I ask this with all due respect of course, I (we) just haven't seen you post much before and have no idea where your info would be from and if it is reliable. Is a pretty bold statement you are making too....

I've said this before, like Boomer Harvey as long as Betts keeps his pace he could play longer than 4 years

With this in mind Eddie has had no serious injuries to date so I'm confident that we should be fine

just get him over the line and add it to our positives from 2013 that you can currently count on 1 hand.
