Just what we DON'T need...another small forward kicking 1 goal every 2 games who has no tackling skills or forward pressure ability. We already have lots of those!
Spend the $2mill on a proven goal kicker to help Tex next year.
I assume if Betts comes then Pets or Porps or Callinan are gone?
Odd post.
1) Betts is an excellent tackler and applies elite forward pressure. Stating otherwise proves that you don't watch Carlton games.
2) Betts has averaged over 2 goals a game in his last 2 uninterrupted seasons (2011 and 2012), and also led Carlton's goalkicking in 2010. He also made the All Australian 40 man squad in 2011 and 2012.
3) He is a proven goal kicker. He kicked 100 odd goals in 2011 and 2012 combined. How many other forwards (small, medium or tall) can say that?
4) The 3 blokes you have named are all finished as AFL players. This has become glaringly obvious this season. Personally I don't ever want to see any of them 3 of them in crows colours again. Porps to GWS, Callinan delisted, Petrenko anywhere that will take him.
5) Betts has had an average year in 2013. This has been caused by him breaking his jaw, missing about 6 weeks, and has also probably been influenced by the fact that Carlton have no effective tall forwards for him to crumb off, and the change in game plan that Malthouse has implemented. Even this average form has been far better than any of our small forwards could dream of. He has looked very good in the last month too.
6) Betts is exactly what we need because we have NO effective goalkicking small forwards on our entire list.
