Eddie McGuire: Conflict of interest?

It seems as though a lot of fuss has been made about virtually nothing in the challenge to Joseph Gutnick as President of the Melbourne Football Club. The way Eddie made it sound, it was the biggest footy story ever. "Melbourne is in crisis", "There is civil war at Melbourne" just to name a few quotes by Eddie. Now this coming from a President of another Footy Club I found a bit much. He certainly wouldn't be beating it up if the shoe was on the other foot.
Now I like Eddie. He does a good job as host on the Footy Show and Millionaire but the way he handled things I just thought was wrong.
Now on to the other issue, Ron Walker. I think he would make a great President. He has plenty of contacts, a great success rate at things he does and he is also loaded with money. He gets my vote when it is time for Joe to step down, which is not now, but I'd say by the end of 2003. I think it is good that someone like Joe is taking on Wayne Jackson who thinks he controls everything.

C'mon! When Eddie is wearing his Footy Show hat, he often teases and hypes his way to get excitement out of something that isn't all that exciting.

But when it comes to a Conflict of Interest, there wouldn't be a bloke in Melbourne that has to take as much care as Eddie! I think he never crosses any boundaries and carries his multitude of roles as perfectly as anyone could.

A real conflict of interest is like when a stockbroking firm advises a university to float their .com.au interest, values it at a third of market value, buys up half the company at the lower price and gets some more Rembrants at their 101 Collins Street address when the true market value is realised. THAT is a REAL Conflict of Interest John Anderson you f*cken idiot!

At what point did anything Eddie say last night that benfit Collingwood, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Tripple M or any of Eddie's personal investments?

The answer is his over-hype of this topic was for the benefit of the Footy Show and the Footy Show alone! And if it wasn't the president of THE Club up there, it would have been someone like Gary Lyon over-hyping it anyway. That's what journos do!

The best part will be next year when Eddie cancels a live telecast of the NM GF Breakfast and we go straight to Collingwood's breakfast. That will help the pauperoo's coffers!

DEES01 your credibility with me would be higher when commenting on presidents if i hadnt read that rubbish you posted on another thread about a true peoples president in Ian Dicker. HE HELPED SAVE YOUR CLUB AND YOU SLAG HIM!!!!!!!!! Ian Dicker does everything because of his love for the game and for his Hawks, Ian Dicker has improved conditions at Hawthorn for all the members and genuinely cares about those who struggle to afford the football these days. Ian Dicker is loved by everyone associated at Hawthorn, he is a true legend and it has nothing to do with on field success. I for one think Eddie McGuire is fantastic for Collingwood and for footy. Dont forget it was Eddie who convinced a network which didnt have the footy rights to take a punt in prime time on a footy show, lets see how much interest seven have in footy as of next year!!!!! Stop bagging guys that are putting in hours of UNPAID WORK, to help people enjoy there club :MAD:

OK, time to defend myself here.
If you had bothered to read my other post I said I was harsh on Ian Dicker and I took it back. I agree, he has done a good job in rescuing the Hawks.
Secondly Joffa, I could not give a stuff what someone like you thinks about me.
Finally on the merger. While I am quite happy that we are on our own, I admit I was sceptical about Joe. I did not believe him. I was wrong I admit that. Also I thought the merger was a good deal for Melbourne. I am aloud to have an opinion.

I find it disappointing, if what Eddie was saying on THursday night was true amongst the Melbourne board. In a nutshell, who do the Melbourne board think they are.. Joe Gutnick has been the best thing to happen to your club in the last 5 years, he has contributed approx. $3.0m of his own money into the club and has come out and stated he won't be pouring in anymore - then all of a sudden the board don't want him. Seems like they were willing to take his money, and now that the money tree is bare - goodbye.

I read all the replies to this post and I tend to agree with most of you (well Joffa is an obvious choice of someone i don't agree with as he has done nothing but bag people and abuse them... classic mate, just classic :rolleyes

While i don't think Eddie had any conflict of interest, i do think he went over the top with the story. I know Joe very well and when the whole story came out i wasn't worried, i was amused because i knew it was crap. I knew it was some arseh*le from the inside (and there are a few) who have been trying to get Joe down, that spread the rumours to cause a mess within the club. Fortunatly the only mess they cause was outside the club when Eddie got all excited and screwed the story right out of proportion.
Joe is a great president and he brought a whole new dimention when he came into the club. I admire the way he stands up to that no-life prick Jackson and i can't understand why you all forget that he saved the club, and regardless of wether you like him or not he is the reason Melbourne is in the comp!
