Perhaps it would help if the journo did a bit of research on Eddie MCGUIRE first?

You've got a lot of work to do up there Ed.

It's like another planet.

Who comes up with this stuff?

An AFL club president will not sit on an NRL club's board, espescially if he's not going to be no. 1 on it.

Then again you wouldn't think an AFL club president would find himself with the job of plotting the downfall of AFL TV coverage to half of the country's population. :)

Who pays his bills, Channel 9 or Collingwood or the AFL?... so where should his loyalties lie?

Correct, but Channel 9 should better hide it's biased against other sports. This is playing a factor in 9 being killed in the ratings to the unbiased 7 and 10 networks :)

The reason he is being touted is because he brought collingwood back to the fore and it's what they want to do at Souths.

Since Eddie has done it before Souths want those skills and knowledge...

Collingwood has always had a huge supporter base, something Souths lack.

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear (even if you are Eddie McGuire).

Eddie's model works, because of Collingwoods drawing power. The fans always go to the games.

If South can get some good crowds, then Eddie's model will bring them back. If not.....it will probably fail.

Every club wants to be like Collingwood or do business the Collingwood way, only problem is, not every club averages close to or above 40K each game. Thats some drawing power.

Good Luck to South's, always good to see a battling team have a crack. Like the AFL Dogs and Kangaroos.

I hope they can get some big crowds at Redfern. At least with Ed, he can help out with sponsors. If he hasnt already got them all at Collingwood.

I hope for Collingwood, he still has a bit of a role with them too.......Could Eddie be working to bring both games a bit closer together?

What in particular are you arguing about?
Souths do have a very large supporter base.

The problem is....they haven't looked like making the finals since 1989, and haven't won the title since 1969.

exactly.
souths are pretty much like the nrl equivalent of collingwood, except just about everyone has a soft spot for souths, something collingwood can't claim. lol.

Souths are the NRL equivalent of Fitzroy - everybody's second team, popular with the theatre set, had a successful minor prem run but couldn't win a premiership, heaps claim to support them but never go to the games ...
