Eddie takes fight to the top

McGuire has asked for a meeting with the AFL football department - it will happen next week - to discuss what he and his club consider is a dangerous disconnect growing between player, club, umpire and supporters, The Australian reports.
One AFL official sensed this would be no ordinary meeting, referring to it as "Collingwood's call for a royal commission." McGuire would see that as wilful AFL hyperbole. He does, however, see this meeting next week which will involve AFL general manager of football, Adrian Anderson, and umpire chief Jeff Gieschen as directly concerning the future of the game which he loves with a passionate energy that could fuel a rocket.
McGuire told The Australian yesterday that the decision to go to the AFL with the club's concerns was not driven by a questionable push-in-the-back here or a debatable high tackle there. More that the match review panel ruling this week to suspend Nick Maxwell for his bump on Geelong's Steve Johnson and Heath Shaw's one-match ban at the tribunal for touching umpire Michael Vozzo only crystallised his feeling that the game was losing its way.
Why does this bloke think Collingwood should get special treatment from the men in white? and/or the MRP?
