Eddie does cop a great deal of criticism from opposition supporters of that there is no doubt. All of it seems to be based around his success and influence. Without a doubt his views on the game go beyond the Collingwood FC particularly regarding gate sharing with some of the smaller clubs, player welfare and player rewards.
He is 'seen' alot in the media so his influence in probably magnified.
The point is he is the president of the AFL club, he is not the CEO of the AFL, nor does he pretend to be.
I would welcome anyone to make an argument for a better club president.

Have we got one of the best in history?

I've never seen another bloke run his club with as much passion or heart.

And these two things aren't even his most important attributes. You could put anyone in who has passiona and heart, but Eddie has also done an incredible job turning around the culture of the club and the finances.

He is inspirational.

ohhhhhh the power & the passion(a)

unlike a certain other club, eddie has a passion for the game itself, rather than just his own club.
im impressed with the willingness to promote games where financially weaker opponents are set to benefit most.

Haha, yeah, but we still get benefit if we are the away team from bigger crowds.
- More of a case to stay at the G (bigger average crowds) rather than have to play at Ethihad ("we just can't fit there!")
- Better story for sponsors ithe higher our average attendance (and TV views) are therefore we can charge them more money
- Better case to keep playing more away games in Melbourne to help the stuggling clubs (and therefore less travel required)

I would say most of what Eddie does is for the benefit of Collingwood, but that isn't a bad thing at all.

For all the catcalls from oppositions supporters regarding Eddie his passion and total dedication to everything Collingwood it is a stark contrast to the corporatespeak and office filling clones seen elsewhere.

I especially like the fact he has kept quiet these past few weeks..... It probably had to do with the fact he was in London but jeez he can open his mouth at the most inopportune times!!

Do not want that deal done!!!

I love what Eddie has done and continues to do for our beloved Collingwood Football Club.

I cannot help but think it is highly coincidental that after his stint for the Olympics, he is now back in Australia, and what do you know? Beamsy announces his extension. I hope this is the beginning of many more announcements, and will perhaps naively put a lot of this on Eddie's shoulders.

Great to have him back :)

srs or jk?
haha, sorry. Should've put a wink at the end just in case someone didn't realise I was joking, or a north supporter stumbled across this thread.
Can't believe some people or anyone would ever want him ousted from being President.
All the other clubs would die to have someone like Ed.
Winning so often these days sort of makes you forget and kinda take for granted how shit we were back in the late 90s. God that was painful. :P
No one person is bigger than the club, but if there was it'd be Eddie!

The bloke is a dead-set legend.
Bleeds Black & White.

I love the footage of the 1990 Grand Final, young Eddie is a news reporter.
He is on the ground when the final siren goes with his mic ready to speak to someone and the bloke is ecstatic. Cant contain his smile.
Anyone got a youtube link? I can't remember that!
