The grape vine says Jacana are in a spot of trouble. This cant be good for the EDFL's plans of 3 divisions. Could be a nother club they need to find as the mail is they wont get on the park this year. Anyone know anything concrete here?

Reckon I have heard the same thing this time of year for the past 4 years. They prob have a heap of guys who play cricket that wont start training until that is finished. Cant be easy with there demographic, but hope this once proud club can pull it together.

MELBOURNE'S FINEST FOOTBALLER!

As you know next weekend is the Boags Preseason Invitational and I would like to encourage clubs to register a player in their team to compete on March 6th.

The 3 different events are :
* 60 metre sprint
* beep test
* push up comp

Will be an AWESOME day!

They are looking at teams to join the league. Would be surprised if only 6 and that would only be for 1 year.

So need at least 4, not sure where these will come from?? Possibly Sunbury Kangaroos & Rockbank from RDFL all though from what I understand the RDFL is getting stronger and is well run and most clubs would be happy to stay.

Melton, Sunbury, Melton South from BFL might consider a move all though doubt would be prepared to start in Div 3

Parkside from WRFL has been talked about previously, and might consider it.

Maybe Brunswick Power, all though from what I hear about them, might not be the type of club we want in the EDFL.

Parkside have hardly any juniors EDFL requires all clubs to have juniors and Brunswick power folded maybe four years ago.

From all reports the Jacana Football Club is as good as dead. The club is in a huge amount of debt and cannot field two open age teams for the 2011 season.

This will also be a massive blow for their major sponsor, the Broadmeadows Sporting club, who have plans to relocate to Jacana Reserve. Apparently their plans are to become the Jacana Sporting Club and to incorporate the football club into this.

If the Jacana Football Club shuts its doors, you can bet your bottom dollar it wont take long for soccer people to set up shop at Jacana Reserve. The reserve has two ovals and is in a perfect position, at the bottom of the Johnstone Street hill, which is a major thoroughfare, hence the reason the Broadmeadows Sporting Club want to relocate there. I'm not sure the Sporting Club will want to move to Jacana Reserve if the football club has folded and soccer is the winter sport which is played there.

Lets hope all parties (including the EDFL) can work something out and keep this once proud club who have produced so many VFL/AFL champions alive.

Well said... Find it funny though that everyone has jumped ship this year
Too play where?? 2nd footy or a fringe 1st player, isnt it about playing footy not chasing themighty $$$$ 70 blokes training at some clubs for 43 spots and to know that theres a team struggleing to get 3 teams on the park every week for a game , winning is not what its about..

shame if true about jacana....but not surprising considering their last 5 years....would be very hard to attract decent players to the club plus the area demographics wouldnt help either . cant see how they would be in huge debt though? surely they arent paying any of their players? some of their young kids had potential though

Very well said Justin. It takes a courageous person to put their real name on a forum and leave themselves open for criticism. You are obviously very passionate about your club. I really hope Jacana can get it together because although they are battlers, they are survivors. Think of all the teams that have folded around them over the years; Broadmeadows Bandits, Dallas Blues, Holy Child, Coolaroo Rovers, Meadow Heights, Gladstone Park. It says a lot for the people of this proud club to keep their club going under very difficult circumstances. Good Luck with it.

Need to get people such as patty o'neill back at the club I think Justin.... Saw he has put in for a clearance back to craigieburn

Just correct you there Justin..... Northern saints have under 10's right through to 18's.... Junior program is healthy at the club

Tulla have not folded their juniors, and have over 20 players for the 18's, won't win the flag but will be competitive :thumbsu:

. However I feel the EDFL need to do more to promote junior football and the game of Australian rules football in the areas with a lack of kids, instead of let junior teams fold. You take football out of these areas and a lot of them don't return to play our game, instead turning to video games, hanging around in large groups at shopping centres or causing mischief. It would be great to see the EDFL and the club affected put on a BBQ and skills clinic in the community and continue to grow our game.

probably the clubs responsibility to do that cant expect the EDFL to attract kids for their clubs and yes it is harder for clubs in non growth areas such as jacana northern saints etc as there just arent as many kids in their demographic..... northern saints hold a sausage sizzle and footy clinic at fawkner festival every year as well as sausage sizzles outside bunnings in coburg and also clinics in the primary schools in fawkner as they are aware they have to work harder than most clubs to attract kids

l havnt posted on here for 3 years but l couldnt help but be saddened by whats happening at Jacana. You always hear rumors but to have a bloke like Justin come on here and say the things he said about his club is worrying. All l can say is that l wish Jacana and their people all the very best and lm sure they will do everything they can to stay alive......

As far as the EDFL goes, well my opinion of them dosnt really matter. They are desperate to have 3 divisions and it dosnt matter if they lose teams along the way cos they have plenty of other interested clubs wanting to come in. They have to run a bussiness and they cant carry clients for too long and l know that they do try and help clubs, and lm sure Jacana is one of them.

Anyway, enough of boring u guys......Good luck Jacana :thumbsu:

THE TOP 5 THIS YEAR:
MOONEE VALLEY
SYDENHAM HILLSIDE
ROXBURGH PARK
JACANA
PASCOE VALE (to just scrap in)

good luck this year boys...set for a big one:footy:

Could Div 3 be a good thing for Jacana? End of the day they will be much more competitive playing Roxy a few times a year rather than Paco and Tulla etc. Winning games or at least being competitive would help with attendance to games and the potential to recruit. Seeing Jacana copping 100 point hidings each week would make it hard to get players to join. The main reason a Div 3 maybe opening up is because the difference between the top clubs and bottom clubs is now massive.

The shame of the Jacana situation is that it will happen to other clubs once 3 divisions are brought in....they will follow the same lines of not being able to get players ,sponsers.. etc. I beleive that it will work if the EDFL bring in the player points system employed in other leagues as it will level out the clubs stop the bigger clubs from using their juniors as cash cows.

If the sporting club relocate to the bittom of johnstone st would be massive for the JFC an upgrade of facilities is overdue..... The club should revert to the gold V also.... Ad it Was the last time the club was competitive and a better looking jumper

Div 3 is now 100% in 2012. 8 teams will remain in B grade and 6 demoted to Div 3 based on a points system from 2009, 2010 and 2011 finishing positions. The 6 teams in the drop zone are - Syd Hillside, Nth Saints, Moonee Valley, Roxy, East Keilor and Jacana.

Keilor Park and Airport West are the 2 teams just above the drop zone and need a good year to be safe from the drop. If a strong team ie/ Sunbury Lions join the EDFL they will start in Div 2 and 7 teams will drop down to Div 3.
