Your being silly obviously with the Church comment as almost all of the HS midfield are local 1 points. Yes CB had some younger players but keep in mind the average age per side would say HS have one of the youngest lists in div1. A lot of ladder positions are determined by the player budgets so in this case HS are doing ok. CB admit they have good funds and good on them..But history will tell you to have a plan, recruit wisely and use the $$ on the right people..TBH neither club are ready to move up to premier next season but are best placed with good junior numbers.

Come on Turbs, HS are one of the clubs spending the most. Even some of these "local" guys like Volpato and Colletta are on big money. HS have had the same "younger" guys for the past 5 years. Not sure you can keep playing that card.

TIPS THIS WEEK

Craigieburn V EK - Craigieburn were super on the weekend and are going under the radar, should be equal favs with APW and TM. Are EK back ? Danger game for CBURN but they should be too strong at home , CBURN by 18 points. ( read an article during the week that said after this week Bugeja going overseas for 5-6 week, that's a huge blow to the eagles)

HILLSIDE V OP - Can OP do it 2 weeks in a row, from all reports OP were fantastic last week, can they back it up ? HS to bounce back by 29 points

TULLAMARINE V WESTMEADOWS - Local rivals with Tulla coming off shock loss last week. Heard Kennedy and Tulla coach both suspended ? and a few out for Tulla this week. Does this open the door for Westmeadows. Cant see Tulla putting in 2 bad ones in a row and expect them to rebound hard, Tulla by 41

TAYLORS LAKES V APW - Match of the round. APW coming off the bye after being flogged by 10 goals how will they respond ? Will Young play ? Lakes lost last 2 and back at home. I cant wait to go down and have a look at this one. Im tipping Lakes to get an upset by 3 points

4 great games of div 1 this weekend

I’m still not sure what you mean by Hillside being soft? What do you mean by that as footy has changed.
Hillside would have one of the youngest lists in this division and therefore are slowly building. As long as they have a plan then it’s fine..But kind of agree they had a good chance to beat CB but got outplayed.
Having said this they lack experienced leaders on field and rely on local talent. Probably lack an experienced midfielder and a big bodied key back to really challenge this year..

Glad you said ONE OF the YOUNGEST sides in this grade as Craigieburn had 6 under 19s and have regularly played 5/6 under 19s this year with 2 of this 6 still only 17 and will be until after season has finished , also another 8-10 players 25 and under, that looks like a plan to me .

Let’s be clear where did I criticise or dispute this about CB. I’ve always said in this comp you must be preparing a plan which includes building a good solid base. Both these sides are going along the right path. How many of these CB youngsters played games last season in premier? Surely that can be an advantage when dropping back to div1 as they got that experience against some elite players. You will find in premier footy if a kid goes well often these ex AFL players will offer these opposition players sone encouragement post game. This is a great thing about footy and our game. Hence why I often say spectators should admire some of the talent on show in this league rather than stand behind a fence yelling abuse. Think long term not short term. Have a plan, build a good culture and enjoy the footy..

Even in Div 1, the senior players often give the kids who play well from other teams a bit of praise after games.

Really good to hear this is happening.

Hey New , has anyone told Simmsy that cricket season finished about 12 weeks ago or has someone stolen his computer?
He was quite chirpy over the past years but seems to have lost interest.
I don't know I haven't seen him for about a year or so. Rumour has it that one of the best club men that EDS had or still has is disillusioned by what has been happening down there.

Can only support the comment about him being a fantastic club man and all around great bloke. Plenty of them down at Douttas.

Kennedy out for 2

But David Connell ? Not sure but I did hear that Coates Hire have come on board as a big sponsor. (Cherry Picker perhaps [emoji848])

A few friends and I travelled out to Taylors Lakes today expecting to see two sides that I expect to see in the finals. From a struggle point of view it was a close game. Skills were lacking from both sides. But the biggest disappointment of the day was the umpiring display. At the end of the day I had the free kick count at 39 to 10 in favour of Taylors Lakes. Even more disappointing was watching the umpires join the home side for beers after the game in their club rooms.

APW did not help themselves in their sloppy display of getting the ball from one end of the ground to the other. Taylors Lakes lack of kicking straight was what kept APW in the game. The draw came with a goal after the siren.

The umpiring this season has def gone backwards
Tough I know to find people to do this unforgiving job but it is a serious issue the league must first acknowledge and then do something about

Did APW not go in for a drink after the game?
I did see some APW players and coaching staff hanging around. But that is different to the umpires who have just not umpired a game the same way for both teams.

Good win today by the Demons
Played an under 19 too which is great to see

Just 1 under 19 ?? Gee that’s great Not

Absolutely nothing wrong with umpires going in for a drink after the game, I would actually encourage that it happens more often as they are humans , Like it was back in the old days you could actually talk to them about the game and some decisions made and you get clarification on certain things,

You said they went in to have a drink with the home team.
No, they went in to have a drink with whoever wanted to have a drink with them.
The best way to build a better relationship with players.

I am sure there are different ways. Just think how APW players would of felt seeing umpires that had just smashed them in the free kick count, drinking with the opposition.

Why can't the umpires go to clubs training sessions and get to know them there

The weren't specifically drinking with the opposition, they were drinking with who ever wanted to drink with them, including any APW player that wanted to drink with them. This is the perfect opportunity, over a beer, in a civilised manner to ask for an explanation as to a free kick that may have been paid.

Don't worry about Simmsy I'm still around just waiting for cricket to start again. I'm hearing Douttas have picked up quite a bit of talent in the off season.

He’s back. Can you please wheel out a few of the names that have decided they would like to play at EDS in Div 1 in 2019. It’s gunna be hard to hold the blokes you have now. I’m hearing a lot more on the move including some committee & coaches.

I think he is referring to off-season cricket pick-ups not footy. I doubt any new players would be committing to EDS for 2019 as this stage, might want to see who is in charge first. EDS play at low points which suggest majority are home-growns - you would hope they stick fat and work together to get them back into Premier, however long it takes.

APW players would of been lining up all night then. But I do get your point. Let's leave it there.

Good to hear you are still around. You must mean for the cricket team.

Time for some new blood and a new direction at the top end of the club, this is not a bad thing.

I agree, get the right coach and the players will follow. I would suggest one that can communicate and has a three to five year plan. Somebody like the ex Abers under 18 coach that is now an assistant at the Cannons, I think it's Brett ???.
