Here’s a great read

Saw this published tonight by a Gippsland Gun...

Football has been part of me my whole life, but it’s not the game I miss.

I miss getting to training mid week when it’s wet and windy, after being inside all day.

I miss seeing my friends in an environment where they are most completely themselves.

I miss building something together with my club, in it together.

I miss waking up on game day, packing my bag hardly being able to eat.

I miss watching the reserves and talking absolute jive with the boys, coffee in hand.

I miss the hour after the game, sitting and having a beer in the rooms.

It’s never been about the game, it’s been about the people, the club and the community.

Can’t wait to see everyone.❤️

I think the good old brown paper bag will be more prevalent than ever for clubs who are cashed up or have members with disposable cash..... nothing will change the cheats will remain strong and the poor smaller clubs will vanish from existance....

Donald D

100% greedy players and clubs especially with cap being around the 45k mark.
player signed for 800 a game will now only get 200-300

Yeah that’s the point I guess. The AFL have strict rules if they go ahead and that can’t be done at community level so it won’t get going this season is what has been reported. Yes the laws will be relaxed at some stage but it won’t be to allow community footy to restart this season.
Which is wrong. You can go have mass gatherings at kmarts kids can go to schools and run around in groups of 2/3/4/5 ect people can still use a train or a tram but god forbid if you go to a gym or play a local sport

It’s not essential. That’s the big difference. Some people might disagree but unfortunately that’s they main difference.

Neither is school when there is home schooling neither is opening bunnings up for anyone to just go in and have a shop neither is Kmart let’s be real if these places can be open then the very least a gym can be open this whole thing is overblown it has got to the point where a man could die of a heart attack and that would be put down as a corona virus death if he had a slight cough

League’s won’t have the time or resources to do this.
Will be hard enough to just get the comps running again.

I think you will find that other clubs will proactively report any suspected breaches. All clubs know what is going on and players willing provide copies of contracts to new clubs chasing them. Also payments made from one club to another to clear contracted players will be divulged. I understand one club has informed the league of a payment to obtain a contracted player. Be interesting to know if the club who received the payment allow for it in the new cap?

School is essential. My kids are at school because I have work and no one to watch them.
I need to go to Bunnings for my work. I think you’ll find an argument that all shops are essential. Gyms, local sport and leisure centres are deemed as not essential because u don’t need them to survive. Just like beauty salons, tattoo parlours and anything else banned.
unfortunately for all of us we have to look to season 2021 for our local footy fix.

The same risks will still be present in 2021, 2022 maybe 2023, 2024

let’s just stop all local sport, craziness at play.

Yep. Sign on fees to included in the Cap. Leagues to audit clubs books and question new players to clubs re sign on fees. Some clubs to be caught out.

Deer Park from all reports operated outside the rules for 4 years. They were investigated for the past 2 years with no result.
What chance of policing of a cap of any magnitude? ZERO
An EDFL club was found to have exceeded the cap and was
found guilty by an independent panel. They were penalised a suspended $5000 (which the independent panel thought was excessive).

The only way any that this can be policed is if all clubs give full access to their books and banking remittances to the EDFL... which is very very unlikely.
It will need all clubs to sign in to a standard POS system.
Less people using cash and as such relatively easy to track.

If the AFL goes ahead without crowds there is no way they will allow local leagues to have them. 2020 is as good as dead unless all games are played in gated grounds.

Not a follower of this league (im from Qld) but been keeping up to date with many of the Vic threads as community sport will very much be a national thing when it comes to being allowed to play.

My prediction is governments will sign off on it going ahead eventually, but it simply won't be feasible for any half-decent footy league in the country to put a season together with what would appear to be no crowds or functions allowed. I think you'll see a fair few mickey-mouse type round robin set ups happening to try generate a bit of cash flow and get guys at least on the track in preparation for 2021.

I believe some clubs will fold as I know of one club who used over $80k of this years junior money to pay 2019 payments. Parents are already asking for junior subs back and the clubs will have to give it back or at least a majority of it. No revenue to come in over the bar or from functions in foreseeable future and no guarantee that any football will be played this season. I bet some sponsors may want some of their sponsorship money returned as they will not get or be able to get what was promised.

Ha, you mean Prem Div teams Greenvale or Abers. But there are others. very poor financial management by both clubs. GV sponsor pulled out, but that just highlights how fragile they were. Abers still paying for their ALF boys from the GF they purchased about 6 years ago. Nohing to see here lads...?

On clubs folding, I know everyone would be in a difficult spot but are there any that have come out and said something along the lines “of this is looking like putting us against the wall”

Well I think the Tullamarine president said something along the lines that everyone should play for free, so reading between the lines, they might be against the wall. By no means do I know the ins and outs of their club, but they were the first club to come out and voice their hardship on the matter. Again only a guess, but I would think the majority would be up shit creek.
I wonder if there are any clubs in any division that will come out of this better off?

Not difficult to be up against it

Playing seniors with no juniors is an absolute grave digger, any club that agrees to this should assist the Council and purchase chains and lock the joint up.
( this was an one of the options raised by the league as well as juniors no seniors)

Point is - to lose sponsorship and still pay the cap and any other sign ons will automatically add pressure to the bottom line.

Clubs budgeted for BAU, and with uncertainty surrounding functions and revenue it’s not hard to now be looking at a 15-30k loss. Best case scenario.

It is more essential than ever that members attend AGMs to understand the finances of clubs before shooting from the hip.

I wonder if it is chineses whispers coming out of an edfl meeting that all the clubs bar one voted to veto the season if no crowds are allowed at games this year
I’m hearing similar things that clubs are unwilling to proceed without crowds, bar and canteen. How can Club volunteers control crowd numbers in the edfl??
Also AFL Vic haven’t given much instruction around how to manage binding contracts with the reduced cap.

promotion/relegation surely can’t be an option this season with the reduced caps.

If there is no promotion (not as much relegation) then what is the point in playing. It would surly be a hollow premiership if it doesn't reward the club that wins it with promotion and clubs that are at the bottom at the start of the year will still be there when this season is over.
