My thoughts on this weekend's finals:

Saturday: Airport West by 34

Danger men: Sinnott, N Gentile and Young for AW, Mckernen, Vistarini and Liberatore for Tulla.

Of all the teams I've watched only two seem capable of running with Airport West and one of them isn't playing finals. Mckernen is huge, but if he can be kept under wraps, and I think AW has the defensive setup to do that, then it will be over by half-time. 79 and 27-point losses don't give me much hope either.

Sinnott has impressed me both times I've watched AW and in Gentile, they have a quality small forward who kicks plenty, while Tyson Young can kick them from anywhere.

For Tulla a fired-up Vistarini may just be the key to a Tulla win and if Libba fires an upset is on the cards. Rain will help too.

Sunday: Westmeadows by 28

Danger men: Dunn, Fitaax, and Martini for WC and Saad, Ranno and M. Abdul-Wahad for Westmeadows.

In both games against West Coburg, Dunn was very good. Talks lots and especially when his team is in front. Tends to go down easy, so Westy will need to watch for any staging. Martini is the perfect foil for him forward. Fitaax is one player with the run in his legs to worry the opposition. They'll take a heap of confidence in knowing they've had two wins during the home and away season.

I'm not sure the rest of the comp has seen the best of Westmeadows, but in two games they've impressed me with their run and carry game. Saad's a very good player and in Nabbout they've got a great option to goal. M A-W is a beast and will be vital, but much will depend on Ranno who is a star in the making. If Merhi plays, then that's a bonus.

The weather looks ok for Sunday too which is great, although Highgate can also see games pushed towards the one pocket. A tightly contested game will only suit West Coburg further, so Westmeadows need to ensure that doesn't happen.

Good luck to all 4 sides. Hopefully two great games.

Really good side. I did like your team too. As I said, lots of really good players in this division.

Well, what a terrible performance by Westmeadows. West Coburg went bang, bang, bang and you had a feeling it was over. Why on earth they continued to go down the same side of the ground just about all day was bewildering. Once they opened it up, they looked much better, but alas it was too late.

That said, West Coburg was brilliant and just about completely dominated.

Airport West score certainly indicates what many of us are thinking.

Yeah looking at the teams today at Windy Hill it was like watching a premier division team verses a division 1 side. AW have a clear system and every single player looks like they could play another 4 quarters of footy without breaking a sweat.
Tulla showed fight for the first quarter and a half then it fell away fairly dramatically.

AW just completely dominant today. They have stars on almost every line and the scary thing is the best player in the comp IMO (Tyson Young) wasn't even as influential as he normally is.
Tulla made to look very slow and were punished every time they turned the ball over.

Gentile is a freak around goals.

APW have tullas number, that’s 3 games now they have won in dominant fashion. Something major would have to happen for them to loose the flag

Tulla very disappointing today completely outclassed, needed to be better, but I can’t see them turning it around as AW are so well drilled and have lots of polish. Anyway Tulla live to fight again. I thought the crowd was very small today been to many finals at Windy Hill and this was one of the smallest I’ve seen for any division..both clubs have good crowds, but I think thE price tag for entry was a bit rich really. I“M Sure it kept many many people away, I spoke to a Northern footy person and they said they charge about $12 for finals. It’s not that I can’t afford it, but hey I”m sure $20 entry is a bit steep for many.

Yeah agree especially post covid years. But they didn’t charge for any junior finals this year which was great.

Something needs to change at Tullamarine, and quickly. Seemed to be no care factor out there today and players just playing for themselves. Yes McKernan is a star, but his refusal to even have a crack today was incredible. Smith was fantastic and Prestia Liberatore Divine and Scott tried hard. Airport West far too good across every line and Tulla had no hope in hell of keeping up with them. Going to be an intriguing contest next week

small crowds at rdfl as well sign of the times perhaps? $10 to get in

Not sure the facts match your opinion on the impact Mo Kak has had. 4 years no better than 4th (understand 2020 no footy) and 2022 not finished as yet. in 2019 Smith was the coach and Mo Kak was football admin.
Looks like it will be another 4th finish to me. So i am sure internally Westmeadows are pleased to be making finals i am not sure that warrants a 3 year deal before this season is finished
So in reality he has coached 12 games in 2021 and 16 games in 2022 (have won 17/28 in this time) 60% win record)

2012- Won 8 - Finished 8th
2013 - ??
2014 - Won 9 - Finished 4th
2015 - Won 10.5 - Finished 3rd
2016 - Won 10 - Finished 3rd
2017 - Won 7 - Finished 5th
2018 - Won 3 - Finished 8th
2019 - Won 10 - Finished 4th
2020- no season
2021 - Won 7 - Finished 4th
2022 - Won 10 - Currently 4th
Well Well Well

2022- Won 11 - Finished 4th
So history repeats that's no impoverishment in 4 years (form a ladder perspective) well 3 given no 2020.

I stand by the comment went way to early on extending the contract, should be having that discussion over the next few weeks and challenging the coach on how they are going to get better.

Finals is a positive yeah they lost yesterday to a better side on the day, to say they shouldnt have signed him is a ridiculous comment. He has developed a young playing list, alot of kids that played 19s last year got a taste of senior football in big games. Thats your opinion so respect for that

$20 is a disgrace for a normal finals match.
I can cop it for a grand final but all other finals should either be a gold coin donation or $10 max.

Crowd voted with their feet - very disappointing. In fact I reckon there would be have been more people at a regular AW vs Tulla home and away match than what was there yesterday.

Lets not sugar coat it. $20 entry for a local football game is a disgrace and the EDFL should be ashamed of themselves. I can afford it also, but lots of people out there cant especially in these trying times for everyone and no individual should be paying $20 or big families etc should not be asked to pay $60,80,100 to enter a local football game.
