Players are only to be taxed IF they declare footy earnings to offset footy expenses …otherwise the earnings are classified as “ hobby “
That’s if the payment is less than 300 in a week. Payments over that within a week are meant to be taxed as per the tax office. Becomes no longer “a hobby”.

No idea buddy

Hobby payments do not need to be declared according to the ATO… there is no threshold.

Declaring payments

Hobby- You do not need to declare the amounts you make from your hobby to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

Business- You will need to declare your income to the ATO in your annual return.

Rupo went slightly over by a miscalculation and owned up to that. They pay every player properly AND tax players which most clubs do not.

Deer Park people at the beginning of the year openly gloating how they “pay players with TAB vouchers” coz they can’t be caught etc is the real cheating.

The amount some other clubs pay over in cash is absurd.
If you are going to lie about it, how about we put the truth out.... a disgruntled committee member reported to the EDFL, when he was no longer a part of the club, thus the investigation, rupo would have never dobbed themselves in

Haha well considering I was taxed, spoke to the ATO and accountants about the exact topic, told them exactly what my payments were, including my group certificate, and they both said the same thing, due to the amount being paid you MUST declare it. But you keep spinning your shit bud. Haha

Also, you will find in the definition, that once you earn more than the cost of the hobby you are making profit and therefore it is classed as a job or business. So by rights, with a decent amount weekly, players should be taxed.

I’ve never heard of any local player being taxed other than GV and O&M, but also you have no reason to lie about being taxed at Rupo. Strange that’s how they do it.

Bloody disappointing if they had a disgruntled ex member put them in, that person is a “mop”. The stiffest part is APW would have spent close $200k+, and Tulla spent approx $100k on McKernan alone and both get cleared 🤷‍♂️ Most clubs trying to play finals just operating 2 books these days to get around it.

😂 APW did not spend $200,000 on that team in 2022. I heard McKernan was on stuff all out at tulla, they got him a job and he hated it and quit and ended up being a PT last I heard

You heard wrong.
APW, would be shocked if there was any change out of $200k. The cap was $90k, I know where my money would be.

McKernan - Job (correct didn’t last long), 20k sign on, Pool, deck, Renovations. Tulla still paying it off.

Most clubs do it, I’m just pointing out it’s now important for clubs to be smart to get around it and not risk what happen with Rupo and Keilor Park.

It will keep happening, already heard some ridiculous offers being thrown around for this division. Good luck to the players if they get it, shame on clubs for being so irresponsible

As far as I’m aware I believe the club realised and told the league they went a bit over but not sure.
