It can take some time to become a consistent premier team sometimes needing to go up and down…
Airport West are probably the example of that

In the last 10-15 years premier has had
Keilor, Strathmore, Abers, Greenvale, Pascoe Vale who have stayed up

Marby Park, Airport West, Doutta Stars
Deer Park, Craigieburn, Northern Saints, West Coburg, Avondale Heights, Glenroy, Oak Park, East Keilor.

Which current Div 1 clubs could have a sustainable future in Premier?

Would think it has to be Oak Park. Avondale did well to stay up in Premier for so long.

Had some mail delivered- Luke Williams to coach Oak Park. Ripping bloke.

Very early call but watch out for Aaron West’s year at rupertswood. 22 years old, has been a pillar in the back line for rupo for past couple years but have got word he’s gonna explore time on the ball this year. Big body mid, gives a mix of Brett bewley and Tyson young. Him, partnered with jackson Cardillo will be a lethal duo, both made features in an article about the best under 21’s in div 1 a couple years back. I genuinely reckon the two share comparisons with Ashcroft and Neale.

Drop a comment who else you’d compare this duo too.

Josh Covelli and Zac Wunhym will be the duo I’m looking out for this year

Let’s get the 2026 conversation rolling early here which clubs are building well, which players have you got your eye on, and who’s going to crash the finals (or topples the usual suspects)?

Top 5 (no particular order apart from OP)
Oak Park - clear front runners
West Coburg
Craigieburn
Moonee Valley
Tullamarine

Next 2 on fringe within a game or 2
AH
Taylors Lakes

Bottom 3 (no particular order)
Rupertswood
St Albans
Ek

It looks like it will be easier to make the finals in 2026 considering that the team that’s coming down from Prem isn’t likely to be competitive where as the last two seasons we’ve had Marby and AH who both had good teams.

Hopefully things go ok with EK. This year we had Roxy on the bottom but they still pushed many sides and weren’t as bad as most wooden spooners.

I think oak park with their quality coach coming in and being probably the best side all year just with hillside leaning at the right time are the team to beat.

WC - always around the mark but have lost a few so unsure if they will keep keeping on

Craigieburn - young brigade with another preseason and confidence could be the Smokey

Moonee V and Tulla - recruiting some names and they were competitive in games throughout the year and knocked off a team or two throughout I expect them to pick up spots on the ladder

Taylor’s lakes - AH - St Albans - all will be around the 5th-7th spot I would predict. St Albans looks like they have lost a few after disappointing year and Taylor’s lakes seem to have picked up. AH just have enough at the top end that’s better then most Div 1 clubs to keep them around the mark but don’t think they are close yet.

Rupert’s - could be the surprise package

Ek- could do the double, which isn’t great on any level off competition, but I think going down will be good for them to start again. They arnt a team I would want to be facing early on as they try to start the rebuild and could upset

Next year could be one of the more even years in already a fully even competition.

Prediction - Oak park flag
Runner up - Cragieburn
Coleman - Covelli

I’d have Taylor’s Lakes way ahead of Moonee Valley and Tullamarine. Those 2 clubs were miles off it this year. Tulla have recruited a couple of good players and Moonee Valley have brought in a lot of players. But the majority of them are point cook players, who struggle in a terrible comp.

I’d still have Oak Park and West Coburg the front runners, with Craigeburn close behind with a few recruits coming I’ve heard. Taylor’s lakes not far behind. Then a toss up between AH, Tulla and Moonee valley

Craigieburn will be closer to 1st than 6th. Back half of the year was sensational, have recruited a few and young group which will only continue to improve.

Would also have Tulla higher…. If they finish 8th after recruiting Covelli and Wunhym then should be a Royal commission into how.
