EDFL Div 1 Discussion 2026

Went and watched Craigeburn. Lost to Albion by about a goal. Terrible kicking cost them and they probably had about 10-11 out. Very very young side. Good signs for them.

Only a practice game in March but that is hardly ideal… NFNL div 3 is not a great standard ..
Must not say much for Div 1 EDFL if losing to a div 3 team.
Pretty sure Fitzroy Stars who won div 3 NFNL last year would go alright in EDFL div 1
And yes it's only a practice match but Mernda didn't even play div 3 finals last year

St Albans have lost a heap of quality players. They may find themselves in the bottom part of the ladder

Doesn’t say that at all. If you are taking teams form or standing in a comp out of a practice matches you are dillusional.
Plenty of teams have lost to lower Divison teams in practice matches.
If that’s the case then Heidelberg must only be a middle of the road team in the EDFL after not winning a game in pre season yet.
Fitzroy stars will be a solid team in the NFNL, but struggle against the top sides. Same as they would in the EDFL.

What's delusional is that both St Albans and Fitzroy Stars will play in respective Division 2 of each competition
Stars would beat St Albans and will go close to being a top 5 side this year
And yep Heidelberg played the 2 grand finalists of EDFL and lost in very competitive games lol. So that makes them a middle of the road EDFL team, now that is delusional

Fitzroy stars would beat a team that will be bottom 3 in the same Divison. What does that prove?
Heidelberg lost comfortably to strathmore and lost to Keilor. They would beat both of them in a home and away game.

practice matches give you absolutely nothing in regards to teams form or standards of a competition. To think otherwise is stupidity.

Really good signs apart from the terrible goal kicking. Really should have won the game but the result irrelevant particularly when missing so many senior players as you mentioned. Half of the team looked to be under 18’s and gee they have some very good young players at the club.

Yeh I’m not sure who they had missing, but someone said about 10 who will walk in.

Where is this published or is it hear-say?
Fact.
East Sunbury , Hillside and East Keilor all on 48 points. So when your club gets relegated and any of these 3 clubs end up second last is their any grounds for recourse with the EDFL .
Just another ridiculous decision to try and help clubs that want an advantage at everyone elses expense .

I can deal with HS getting it, I think all clubs going up to Prem should get 2 extra points, but for other clubs who have been mismanaged, that's just BS.

I don’t mind the side being promoted getting extra points and perhaps the bottom side in Div 2.

Not the side being relegated down a division though
Do you really think 2 extra points will make that much of difference?
Going by the transfers in at EK
Not sure any of them will make the starting line ups of the top sides in Div 1!!
Agree that the HS points are a good idea and moving forward should be considered by all.

ES have won 2.5 games across 2 years.
I think they need it!

Variable points across all local footy may not be too far away either…

I dont think it will make much of a difference to their results. What does it mean for other clubs in the future though, blow your club up and get looked after?

This is what will upset some of the Div 1 clubs. They allowed someone to come into the club, cheat their way to Premier then walk out and leave the club in a shambles. That isn’t the fault of the other clubs. I agree with get it done. No different to East Sunbury slashing money around and still get more points. EDFL have dropped the ball here it certainly sets a precedent
