You have got to be kidding. Everytime there is a blow out in junior footy results we blame the EDFL. Have a good look at the grading policy of all clubs & you will see a marked difference. There is no consistency. I even make this statement re Keilor, Abers & DS.
As an example - & I am sure this correct. Keilor break their U10 sides down into competitive groups for the divisions they believe they will be in. Similar Abers. In saying this they can get it wrong ie checkout Abers U10 Div 7 & 8 results.
Both clubs do not have a policy to adjust their side if they get it wrong. When I say get it wrong forget the other clubs - I am sure Abers would not be happy with one side undefeated & the other win less as an example.
I am focusing on the big clubs as these are the clubs that tend to cause age groups & divisions to blow out when they get their grading wrong due to policy.
EDFL compound the problem by not having the fixture out earlier and the fact that they also try to manipulate the draw by moving clubs between divisions to make them more competitive. The move to three 8 team divisions (1,2,3) has been extremely positive and the grading based on ladder positions from previous year is transparent. Division 4 which is a copy of div 1 works well. After that it gets very messy and compromised. EDFL & clubs need to get together and brain storm to fix.
As far as the U18.5 as concerned - blame the clubs as they have for the last six years refused to change from the current format as they belive they get too much revenue from canteen sales before 12. Have you heard of anything more ridiculous!!!!!
You lost all credibility when you said"The division 4 works well" This weeks scores in u16 div 4 EDS 0 v KFC 165 , Aber 200 v GV 0 , Hills.210 v Had 1 , and the close game WC 113 v SM 28 Yeh thats really working well.
And a couple from u14 div 4 KFC 142 v EDS 3 , Hills.227 v Had 8 . I know who's kidding.

I stand by my statement, may have been a bit adventurous in a general sense. Results above do also support what I said in terms of the clubs. EDS extremely competitive at Div 1 possibly the side to beat but at the expense of their second side. this is a club choice which is what I also stated. Not wanting to go tit for tat - I would suggest we are both frustrated with the current Junior Structure. Are you happy with the way the EDFL have Div 1, 2 & 3 setup?
If so then this is what needs to happen in the lower divisions, which is what I am saying. But we need to be mindful that clubs will always vary their policies which is why kids get moved from one club to another better structure etc. the last thing any club would want is for each side to be graded - what a nightmare that would be. How would families deal with their kids playing at different grounds etc. not viable.

I guess the families would deal with it the same way they do in the WRFL, EFL ,YJFL,and GFL just to name a few, 3 of which are bigger junior comps than ours .
Its an argument that just dosen't stack up for many reasons .I'd much rather have my kids play at different grounds if it meant they had some fun playing footy as opposed to being on the end of a 200 point flogging just for some ones convenience.
My mate has 3 boys at one of the bigger clubs and due to their different ages and abilities he and his wife split their time between games ,its no big deal .

Round 5 this weekend.

Should be some good footy around the Div 1 comp too.

EDS meet Abers in what is always a passionate game and this game is vital to both teams who will be very keen to pick up the 4 points. The heart says Douttas, but I got a feeling Abers will get home by a goal or 3.

It's also the annual "Mothers Day cancer research fundraiser" day where money raised goes towards cancer research.

Hillside meet Greenvale and the Jets should get home by 20 odd points.

Strathmore meet Keilor in a battle of the unbeaten teams, but Keilor will win comfortably.

Hadfield should have their first win of the year when they meet West Coburg.

Moonee Valley v Pascoe Vale shapes as the game of the round in Div 2, while Westmeadows v Northern Saints looks the pick of the round in Div 3.

Div 2 looks to be a really close comp this year. Pascoe Vale look to be the front runners with Roxburgh Park, Craigieburn and Moonee Valley all having good starts to the season.

Round 6 coming up this weekend.

Interesting game coming up between Abers and Strathmore, who have been the comps dark horses. If Abers have a few of their older kids playing they could win, otherwise Strathmore by a couple of goals.

Greenvale should be too strong for Douttas and Hillside for West Coburg too.

Keilor finish the round and should stay unbeaten after their clash with Hadfield.

Good old fashioned local derby between Craigieburn and Roxy Park looks like the game of the round in div 2, while Avondale v Northern the pick in div 3.

Enjoy your weekend of footy and get down and support the game at the grassroots too.

The grading in Junior Footy should be like the Junior Soccer where each age group gets graded separately. Eg. Under 16 Division 2 Pascoe Vale should be in A Grade as they are an A grade team and are only in B grade because of there other Juniors results. They have beaten every team by 100 points+ whilst every other team are even. What are your thoughts?

Its a BomberBlitz

If you read back previously you will see we have had this discussion before and your right their are teams wrongly graded right throughout the comp.Hopefully it will change in the near future as it is only getting worse as some clubs get stronger.

Oh sorry, I haven't read the above posts. I just saw this U16's forum tonight and thought I'd have my say about the grading system.

Thank-You AuckMel, I don't support a team, But i used to play for Doutta Stars a while back, but now I am just a follower of Junior Footy and I've been to see some of the U16 games with my young son this year :D

Awesome mate. Love the local stuff myself too.

AFL Junior Metropolitan Champs kick off next week on Wed 30th of may.

EDFL represented by Under 14 div 1 and 2 and Under 15 div 1 and 2

Div 1 play the RDFL at Eric Broadman Memorial Reserve in Sunbury, while the Div 2 teams play WRFL at Burnside Heights.

First game kicks off at 6.15pm, game 2 at 8.15pm.

The rest of the games are over the Queens Birthday weekend.

Last game of round 1 this weekend.

West Coburg host the very impressive Keilor team and the latter should win in a canter.

EDS host Hillside in what should be the game of the round. Doutta's have been decimated by injuries this year and lost another one last night to an ankle injury and another is iffy after dislocating his finger also last night at rep training. It should still be a close game with Hillside favourites.

Strathmore are at home to the 2nd best team in the comp in Greenvale and the Jets should win by 6-8 goals.

Last game of the round sees Hadfield up against the fast improving Aberfeldie and Abers should win comfortably.

Pascoe Vale should continue on their winning ways in Div 2 against Roxburgh Park. Game of the day looks like the mid table clash between Taylors lakes and Marby Park.

Div 3 gives you the option of some pretty even games. Jacana v Northern, Westy v Avondale Heights and the last game is, Keilor Park v Glenroy which the Roys should win.

Enjoy the weekend and get down and support the local game at the grassroots.

Terrific game of junior footy down at Buckley Pk today. Only 7 points in it and a real free flowing game.

Thoughts with one of the EDFL's very best youngsters who was taken to hospital after the game.

Strathmore upset Greenvale by a goal and a bit, while all other results went as expected. Top 5 now have a 2 game break on the other 3 teams.

Who was taken to hospital? Hillside or Doutta's player.

I left at end of U14's game.

3 wins out of 4 for the EDFL rep sides last night. A very good result.

Next round of games is next saturday followed by games on monday.

Round 8 of the local league on sunday and an interesting round coming up. West Coburg host a very under strength Doutta Stars in what may well turn out to be the game of the round. West play the game very hard and the injury stricken Stars will want a win to boost confidence. I think this will be a very close game.

Strathmore should account for Hillside and again it should be close. Hadfield host Greenvale and the latter should win despite last weeks hic-cup. Keilor v Abers should be a very good game. Abers are getting back to full strength and may cause an upset.

Roxburgh Park v Moonee Valley looks the pick of div 2 games, while div 3 looks to have 3 games which all should be pretty good.

Enjoy your weekend of footy and get down and support your local club.

3 very tight games yesterday which is great to see.

Doutta's got up in what was a tough, rugged encounter with West Coburg. Strathmore continue to be the dark horse of the comp and got up in another close one. Greenvale were easy winners in the end, but I'm told they had to work hard. Keilor by 9 over Abers who will come home with a wet sail and be the danger side late in the season.

Pascoe Vale continue to lead the race in div 2 while Div 3 is wide open after leaders Glenroy were beaten by Northern.

No junior footy this weekend, but plenty of Interleague games.

EDFL 15 and 14 Div 1 teams are playing at Greenvale on saturday. First game kicks off at 10 followed by the 15's at 12. Both playing YJFL.

Div 2 are out at Walker Pk playing Eastern. Games are same time.

EDFL Under 12 and 13 teams play their Queens Birthday rep games at Old Westbourne Football Club on Sunday. First game at 10am.

I'll post monday's games later.

There are some very talented players that haven't previously made rep sides

No doubt about that and one reason why it would be pointless for me to do a top 5 when I know there are some very, very good players in Div 1, 2 and 3 who I haven't seen play and who should be in the mix.
