yes they did
Interesting , bad luck for Doutta's but they will be right , have a strong list and fantatstic kids to choose from, no doubt they will get some VFL listed players from Essendon and TAC kids from Cannons, also very astute coaching group. IMO great to see Glenroy stick up for what is right , sign in October when you know who is already coaching and who is already leaving , then you should honor that contract. Will they now play at Glenroy or sit out ??

Some interesting results. Massive wins for Oak Park and Douttas. with a couple of thrillers in the other two games.

Huge wrap for Glenroy who probably should've run over the top of the Eagles who after a great 1st 1/4er pretty much stopped running both ways. To their credit they did show plenty of character in the last 1/4er to hang on. On that performance Glenroy will trouble plenty of sides.

Hillside 0-2. Who would've thought? Never heard much of OP, but clearly got a decent side. Douttas? No surprise in that result and I'm sure it will be EK who take the drop back to Div 2 this year.

Craigieburn were terrible and will need to pick up there game if they think they r going to play finals
Got to agree eagles were poor but will only get better once they find the best way to use there weapons. Glenroy were fantastic and were very unlucky to lose, but to eagles credit they held on an will hopefully learn a lot from the game can only improve. Young and the ruckman page there only shining lights on the day very impressive. Roys had winners all over the park an will win plenty of games this year i would think

I popped in to see OP for the first half. They went pretty well but you are only as good as your opposition..... The opposition (in the first half) which is all I saw were ordinary at best... The new coach must be wondering why he took the job on that first half performance. Then roared up to CB to see the Cloke boys... What a very good game.... Glenroy, hats off to you... very stiff but you would expect CB to improve after round 1. Joshy Young is a dead set superstar. As a comparison OP will be very very competitive big bodies, hard at it, switch the ball well as will the Roys boys... Hillside better hope they beat EK or they will be back in Div 2 in 17 weeks....

Josh Young should be playing premier or higher. His a class player. I'm at a loss to understand why he would play div1. It's not money as he would be able to get good money at a higher level. I just can't see what motivates him..

Young did play very well today!! Let's not forget first game for cb with all the new recruits it could take some time for them to gel....but at the end of the day a wins a win and good sides find a way to win even if all is going against them?!? Must say umpiring was terrible in this game, not to mention glenroy had 19 on the field for 2-3 minutes of the game, very lucky to be that close at the end

The umpires can count. What a shame u can't DH

Lets not be smart and pretend this didnt happen. No doubt it was just an honest mistake from glenroy but it did occur there was a mad rush on there bench to get the 19th player off but luckily for glenroy they managed to get him off by the time the umps called the count. Pretty harsh for eagles that it resulted in a 50m an goal to glenroy. Umpires the only ppl at the ground that managed to not see the player run off. Very lucky im the end it didnt effect result or in sure there would of been an uproar from craigieburn. Anyway it didnt so lets move on..

Completely agree.
I think a lot of people have either over estimated Craigieburn or under estimated Glenroy this season.
If you look back at my earlier posts i warned people not to under estimate the Roys.
With another 4 walk up senior players out with injuries to come back into the side, they will be very hard to beat IMO. Dont get me wrong, Craigieburn will be very hard to beat, but just worried if one of the Clokes misses due to injury or suspension who is going to kick there goals?

I also said Craigieburn would take time to gel as a side given so many changes. Credit to Glenroy as they did play well, but it's round 1 so lets not get too carried away.

On a positive note, 4 wins for the senior sides yesterday, 2 of them thrashings, so plenty of depth around now.

To be fair aussieone dont u think u could say that about any side? If they lose there FF and CHF who will kick there goals? That would effect any team in the comp i think its made out to be more because they are the clokes. An i think nolan and fletcher are decent goalkickers anyway. Dont think we underestimated eagles u have reffered to past posts and ill be happy to later in the year because when craigieburn get it right they are going to be a very hard team to beat. But do agree about glenroy they were fantastic mate!! Was pleasing to see

On Glenroy, they are a very proud club who have worked hard over the last 3-4 years. Kind of moving away from being known as a tough club to a competitive club heading in the right direction. I don't think anyone is silly enough to discount them. They are always pretty competitive and seem to lift against the better sides. They have always had some good juniors capable of moving up to the seniors one day, so if they have recruited smartly then they should have a bright future.. Looks like they have been able to cover the losses of some talls by the sounds of it..

Anyo
Very entertaining game played at Lionheart yesterday.

Westmeadows had opportunities in the first quarter to put some damage on the scoreboard but didn't convert. Taylors Lakes to their credit managed to hit the scoreboard. Wind changed direction in the 2nd quarter and Taylors Lakes took advantage of it to lead at half time.
Westy came out firing in the 3rd kicking a quick 3/4 goals early to establish a lead. Taylors Lakes lifted their intensity to another notch late in the 3rd quarter which set the game up nicely (3 goal lead to Westmeadows with TL kicking with a couple of goal wind advantage in the last). Westmeadows started the last quarter brilliantly, applying a lot of pressure to the Lakers whilst kicking the first two goals. Take nothing away from Taylors Lakes who, after being held goalless for the first 15 of last quarter, came home with a wet sail.

Good game of local footy played in great spirit. Credit to both sides.

Anyone ably to give a wrap of eds/EK? Are Eds the real deal or EK going to struggle with the jump to div 1?

As someone who takes an interest in the youth of the EDFL, a huge :thumbsu: to Trembearth, Nilsson and Delbusso. Going to play a huge part in Glenroy moving forward.
Yes i agree. these home grown kids are going to be fantastic for the club. lets not forget they had a first year under 18 kid playing as well. Joel Cauchi. future is looking good for them without spending big $$$ which local footy should be all about!

Good stuff from Glenroy.
Just on money spent in this league I agree it high and some clubs struggle to compete with these player payments "however" money has bought some very good players into this competion and providing supporters with some great footy to watch. Even if you don't support a team you could go and watch a great game of quality footy in premier or even div1. Can only be a good thing I say.

I know you weren't saying anything negative just wanted to make a comment.

Glenroy looked solid all day, great young mids, craigieburn looked good also. Keep the clokes quite your in the game with them

I agree in part. I know we regularly used four 17 year olds last year and around 15 or so in total. The club simply lacked a big target up forward so they went out and got two, plus added some experience to help develop those kids. Good move IMO and the crowd which turned up yesterday simply enforced that.

Some really interesting results yesterday. I know it's only round 1 but anyone think their early season predictions might change after what we have seen on the weekend.
