I know that at this time of year Abers claims to have recruited "Big" names and predicts massive things to come only to fail, but surely with the amount of talented juniors we have coming through and the signings of Barham and Van reit so far surely we must be in good stead to at least improve on last years effort.

Its all happening at Abers with some really good signings it seems and with the talent they already have down year I think that next year they will be top 4.

Big call mate.Let's have a look at what has happened to give you that feeling? Shocking dinosaur coach from 2008 given the a r s e for Dean Rioli to take over? Not exactly a coaching record of any merit to hang your hat on and word on the street is that many players and committee not happy with his appointment. Rumour also that McKee wanted out when Rioli was confirmed coach but was on a 2 year deal so had a pay increase and title of assistant coach to sweeten the scenario. How many players started at Abers in 2008 and were there at seasons end? Abers have 2 new 'quality' additions and have or will lose who from 2008? A lot of question marks and they will need another 10 'quality' additions to be any chance of a top 4 finish so will not even be a possibility. No offence to your up and coming under 18's as they are the future of the club but they are hardly going to step up and be walk up superstars in 2009?

Here is where the ladder will look at the half way mark and more than likely the end of season too:

Top 4 to be made up of: Greenvale, Keilor, Strathmore, Marby Park

Middle of the road: West Coburg, Craigieburn, Doutta Stars

Bottom 3 to be made up of: Glenroy, Abers, Avondale Heights.

While on the topic, Avondale are on shaky ground with poor sponsorship, ordinary under 18's and losing such quality senior players will make for a tough season. I think Glenroy and Abers will save them from relegation but I think the other 7 teams will be a huge step up on these three.

Glenroy coming up hey? Not much talk on how they will go. Anyone got a thought or two. 10 goal pumpings each week against the top 7? Massive gap in A Grade and B Grade and I cannot see them doing what West Coburg or Marby have done over past seasons.

Looking forward to some abuse from you Abers mouths as you were quiet after round 3 or 4 and your posts are always coming fast Nov through April! :D

Someone from Glenroy or Avondale want to learn how to use a computer?

not really worth responding but this is so inaccurate i just had to. Pretty difficult to be unanimously voted in by the entire senior committee and have committee members 'not happy.' Cant speak for the players but with virtually the enitre senior playing group sticking together next year you would imagine he has their support.

In regard to McKee he did a fantastic speech at the B&F in which he said how much he loves the club.

We cant have this turning into a forum where people have to tell the truth! So much inaccuracy not worth bothering about. But agree McKee has been big supporter of Rioli's and loves abers so again just some more rot being talked by people with nothing better to do.

Dont know where the anti-Rioli sentiment is being driven from but he has been recieved extremely well by abers players.

As for John Barnes he must have run out of ideas already on recruitment because he has rung up Shane Sheppard and tried to bring him to Doutta's. Extremely low effort.

Also he offered him a position in the douttas one's at CHB!! Think you would do some research before trying to poach an opposition A-Grade Captain.

Word is also from doutta's faithful that eyebrows have been raised about the length of Barnes' contract. One Doutta's legend is calling him Terry Wallace because Doutta's have given him 5 years to get it right!

Can we hear rumblings already at Buckley Park?

Wouldn't read too much in the contract term as Doutta has a history of terminating coaches contract before they expire......

Gotta luv the off-season.......

Big turnout at Strathmore yesterday for Meet the Coaches Day.
New Coach, Digby Morrell and new Assistant Coach, Mick Duggan as well as Reserves and Under 18 coaches were introduced to the very large gathering.

Pre-season begins at Lebanon Reserve, Monday 17th of November at 6.00pm. New Players are welcome.

All OK at EKeilor.

Business as usual , new committee sorted with Leo Gillman President.

Extraordinary meeting came about as Ash Clinnick had to stand down due to work just prior to the AGM. He is remaining as a committe member and a strong committee has been put in place for next season.

The whole thing has been blown out of proportion and with some $$ in the bank the Cougars will be looking to rebound in 09.

Heard the EDFL will support an additional Division 3 at U18 level for season 2009. There are nine clubs registered for this competition. Effectively the following clubs will now field two U18 sides. Aberfeldie, Craigieburn, Doutta Stars, Greenvale, Hadfield, Keilor, Northern Saints, Strathmore & West Coburg.
Great news for all those young blokes who have previously given up football early due to numbers at their clubs being too high.
Let's hope all these clubs are supported by their up & comming juniors and a successful competition evolves.
Great move by the EDFL - no doubt they will have knockers - but I say a step in the right direction.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...........mutton.

any news bout douttas first night preseason down the marby foot bridge???????

Kade Carey ran third, with Kelly running first, but apparently they all know to run slow cos they have to beat their time the next week...already taking shortcuts down at Douttas! Few of the u 16's showed up some of the senior boys too!

Firstly congrats to the leugue if they do introduce the new under 18 comp. They could work out grounds to play on.

In regards to doutta's heard there where no new recruits... also heard they have lost a couple of decent players already one big name i heard the other night was james philpot.

Big name or big kid?????? i say the latter, he played 2 good games this year and one was in the inter league which got him in the edfl team of the year, as we know the other ruckman were injured or didn't make themselves available for that match so philpot got the job, took his chance well done, however he did win the b&f the year before so i think is still a player douttas should keep but has the buck taken over????? Gets them all in the end.
Who else has gone???
