Firstly if Rioli is coach abers should look forward to playing @ Jacana in 2010.
And why would all those Essendon boys want to play with Rioli? Extremely doubtful; they'd more likely play with J Barnes.

Just read on another site that Dean Rioli was definately appointed as Abers Coach for 2009. Interesting !

Hey guys, just got back from O/S and heard the news about Keilor. Fantastic effort! Mick McGuane is a genius! Also congrats to Heath Ayres for winning the best in comp, he's genuine little champion. Was a bit suprises to see the blokes who made up the placings. Esp 2nd and 3rd, thoughts anyone?

Few big coaching appointments in the league, rioli and barnes. Will definatly lift the profile of the league another notch. Whether they will have the success of current ex afl players as coaches like mcpherson, mcguane and even kolynuik (previously at doutta's) should be interesting. Whisper is that Barnes has appointed long time friend Vic Bitter as his assistant, with Carl tondraft as his runner.

Yep KP and Abers are VERY different clubs, but their fate is similar, as the back at ya says, look up Jacana etc,

Barnes, well yes agree, not a great record as a coach and I was certainly surprised by the appointment, it does seem he has sold them some sort of story about players or something,

Take as fact some of those much applauded youngsters are looking elsewhere !!!

Everytime you roll out a new coach he and abers are put up as the next challenger, I think you would agree you have not done much to back that up over the last 10 years ??

dont think anyone has really proclaimed rioli the messiah. the discussion came up because some idiot suggested rioli would have no relationship with past essendon players and barnes would? this is a very insulting remark and clearly not based in any truth.

for anyone who has met dean the one thing is he is a champion bloke and for that reason has may friendships with past and current essendon players.

rioli has been a great influence at abers and everyone is excited about the direction he can take the club. abers needs to modernise its footy and rioli having been coached by sheedy has the knowledge to do that.

as to barnes well like rioli he has a lot to prove in coaching. but douttas people jumped on here and said that the johnsons and peverill will come with him. seems he may have sold douttas a few porkies. and to sign him for 3 years?? considering douttas sack their coachs at the same rate billy brownless eats pies this is very unusual.

so perhaps the douttas and abers people need to wait and see how their respective coaches will go. rioli has been there for 2 seconds and already people have abers getting relegated.

my qn is why is barnes going to be so great?? and considering where douttas ended up last year he has a lot of work to do. unlike the douttas people im going to give him a chance to prove himself before potting him.

I don't recall any posts on here that were from anyone claiming to be the President, Secretary or for that matter from anyone on the Committee from DSFC stating the new coach promised any players from EFC. If anyone has mentioned players names they are sitting around a bar somewhere pulling each others puds.

This whole forum throws up names adnausemn that are all pure speculation. I have seen seperate posts saying that Jason Johnson has signed at 2 different clubs!

The truth is that most of you blokes that post on here are making it up as you go along or worse still...............believing the crap someone else is spilling to you.

I think you guys are forgetting what Barnes has done after finishing his playing career. Aside from being assistant coach at East keilor and various media roles. He was also runner and ruck coach at essendon for a number of years under one of the greatest coaches ever in Kevin Sheedy. Then this year he was the midfield coach at the bulldoggs who made the prelim final. So i think if these two AFL clubs see something in him, im sure he'll be able to bring something to the stars this coming season.
